Sunday 11th of December 2005 and I had received my flight details from Arrownaut Ship Management yesterday.

I ordered a taxi for 10:40. My train was leaving Kalmar for Copenhagen airport at 11:08. Of course, J was coming with me to the train station to see me off

Seems like I left Sweden in the nick of time

I arrived to Copenhagen airport at 14:45. I went straight to the ticket office.
- It's an e-ticket and we can check you in here. Then you only have to drop your bag at the luggage drop.
Yes, E-ticket is great, I checked in and I could drop my “portable home” at the “Odd size baggage drop”. No queue and I were soon sitting at a restaurant eating lamb on rack while surfing the internet. I bought a card for 50 Dkr for 2 hours of WI-FI connection to the internet. I could choose between 30 minutes for 30 DKR, 1 hour for 60 DKR and 2 hours for 50 Dkr. The choice was obvious. My flight to Munich was departing at 18:05 so I had some time to kill.

We arrived to Munich around 19:30 and I passed the passport control and I was in the terminal for flights outside EU. I had a sore throat and I went to a drugstore to buy some codeine. That's the only thing helping against a sore throat. You can eat paracetamol and aspirin till you die, but you still have sore throat. I was in a pretty bad shape Yet another Smiley on www.aladdin.st, but it would have been embarrassing to call in sick the same day I should sign on.

Well, to buy Aspirin with codeine you need a prescription. Well, I understand, but this is an emergency. I wondered for myself: Who brings a prescription to an airport to buy medicine?

The girl sold me some pastille. Hmm, I could as well have bought it in a kiosk. It would probably Scooby Dollarhave been much cheaper as well. But who cares about money? I'm on my way to make Lufthansa flight LH 638 plenty Scooby $ so saving a few ¢ running around (with all my luggage) looking for cheap pastille was the last thing I had on my mind.

I must ask you one thing. Have you noticed that they have abolished the luggage trolleys in the terminals. Well, In Hamburg you can have a trolley if you pay 1€ 50¢ in the slot of the trolley. Oh yeah, I always carry around change when arriving to a new country.

Stockholm, Hamburg, Belgium, Dubai all have a couple of kilometres to walk to the immigration. Hard to do with your arms full of broken plastic bags with tax-free stuff and other necessity. I have to invest some € in cabin luggage and a laptop case on wheels.

I will see what I can find next time signing off. I had it by now. Well, anyway, we started to board our Airbus just after 21:00. Departure time was 21:35.

We were pretty much departing on time. But when we reached the runway we stopped for de-icing.
Winter time Hmm, it's that time of the year.

I can't say that I'm sorry to leave Europe for a few months, returning to Sweden just in time for spring. I changed to shorts on Copenhagen airport and I hope that I don't have to use my “Panta longas until next year”

We took off about 40 minutes after scheduled time and we had a 5 hours flight to Dubai to look forward to. I can't say that I was jumping up and down in joy and excitement. Sitting in monkey class don't have that effect on me. It's more the opposite, especially when I'm sick. My sore throat wasn't getting any better of the pastilles.

Monday 12th of December 2005
and we arrived to Dubai international early morning. I didn't recognize the airport. When I was here last time (10 years ago) we had to sit in a tent. Now it was a huge terminal, but without trolleys for the luggage.

Our agent met me and after passing the immigration and custom I was taken to a hotel. I really needed sleep and some antibiotic for my sore throat. Needless to say, I didn't manage to sleep on the flight.

Arriving to the hotel

Arriving to the hotel and my room wasn't ready. I was a wee bit disappointed.
- Go eat while we prepare your room, they told me in the reception.
- Hey, telling me to eat is like giving vodka to an alcoholic.

I had my breakfast in the restaurant and when I was ready 15 minutes later my room was ready. I took a quick shower and I managed to sleep for 3-4 hours until they called me on the phone.
- They will pick you up in 30 minutes.
I had a quick shower and I got dressed. I could see that Astoria Hotel was close by on a map that I found in my room. I had to go see a Doctor and a drugstore for my throat so I decided to pass Astoria, just to see if I recognized it. And I did recognize Astoria Hotel. I also recognized the “Pancho Villas” sign. The famous Pancho Villas where I was banned some 10 years ago.

I bought my pain relievers and some antibiotic for my throat. If you have a sore throat for more than 2-3 days you need antibiotic to cure it. Well, I dropped a painkiller and Yo!! This was the stuff I wanted, my sore throat was gone in a jiff. Dolgit® 600, Ibuprofen 600, DOLORGIET Germany. Well, now I don't write all this information down for you. It's a note for me so I can buy the stuff next time passing a well stocked drugstore.

I returned to the hotel and I ordered lunch while waiting for the driver to take us to Dubai container terminal, Jebel Ali. While eating one of the guys from the German Law Course in Hamburg walks in to the restaurant. He's together with one more guy.
- Hey! You signing on Pegasus as an Engineer? I asked.
- No, I'm the Chief Officer and this is an IT technician staying onboard for a few days, he said.
- Join me for lunch, I said.
I told him that I thought they were all Engineers on the course in Hamburg. We were babbling away and the times turned quickly. They were soon calling us from the reception.
- Your driver is here.

When I came to the reception to sign the bill the bell boy and the driver were busy with our luggage. They had a little problem with my bag. My bag was in and out from the trunk several times. They turned and twisted my bag and finally they could close the darn lid and we could leave for the ship. Nice to be on the way again.

It was a 30 minutes ride to Jebel Ali container terminal. I said it before, but I must say it again. I didn't recognize anything in Dubai from last time I was here. We passed a new area of Dubai and I asked our driver how old it was.
- It was built 3-4 years ago.

On the way to Jebel Ali terminal we passed a huge indoor ski slope. There was an area where they were building skyscrapers. Not one and not two, but several of these huge condominiums. Sea side and expensive is the name of the game. Hmm, I don't know if I would like to live in Dubai, never mind how much sea side it is. But I have no doubt that the night life is way better in Funky Town

The first thing we had to do at arrival to Jebel Ali container terminal was to pass immigration. Then we continued to the gate were we got a ride with a van to our ship. They have these vans transporting people within the terminal. It's not allowed to drive cars at the terminal. It was nice to finally get in to my cabin with my bag.

MV Pegasus is chartered by Maersk. When I came onboard Pegasus arrived to Jebel Ali fromWorld map South Africa. They used to stop in Cape Town and Port Elizabeth.

Pegasus starts her voyage in Dammam, Saudi Arabia then she goes to Jebel Ali, UAE. Next stop is Algeciras in Spain before going to Brazil. They don't stop in South Africa any more on the way to Jebel Ali.

Now they changed our route and there will not be any stop in South Africa any more. We will stop in Nouakchott (It's the capital of Islamic Republic of Mauritania) on the way to Brazil. They added a stop in Rio De Janeiro in Brazil. But on the first trip the stop in Nouakchott and Rio De Janeiro will be omitted. Our new route will be:
Ad Dammam - Jebel Ali - Algeciras - Nouakchott - Rio De Janeiro - Santos - Itajai - Paranagua - Rio Grande - Jebel Ali - Ad Dammam.

I asked my phone company if I could upload my web page with GPRS in Dubai.
-No, you can't do that.
Hmm, I have to wait until we arrive to Spain. Maybe I will get the opportunity to go ashore to some internet cafe and upload my web page. But you can always check Pegasus position list. Here you can see ETA and ETS for Pegasus. And when we have been in Spain you can check for updates. But you can always check for updates. You never know when I have a chance to go ashore to a internet cafe with my USB memory.

Well, this will be a later problem. In order to cut down the downloading time for you I will divide this page after the months. Thus you only have to download the pictures taken in the month your interested of. For example:
You are looking for updates every day on aladdin.st and in March you don't want to download pictures from December and January. My pages tend to get out of proportions and I can as well save a little time uploading my pages. I don't have to upload January and February when I'm uploading in March.

- OK OK! You got the picture already.
