I was on the bridge taking a picture of the bird sitting on the cargo manifold so I could identify it. Could not believe my luck, of course far away. The bird took off and came up to sit next to me on the bridge and I could get a picture. Yet another bird I have never seen before

The Tern either a Lesser Crested Tern or a Greater Crested Tern. I cannot see the difference between them.
We have along discussion on www.birdforum.net about the Tern. Is it a Lesser or a Greater Crested Tern?
I´m busy with the sea birds and I discover a little bird just next to me. Not afraid at all but I never get any pictures. well, one when the bird turn my back on me.
Nut I am very lucky with the Ortolan Bunting. The bird, I think it is a female is coming back to me on the bridge in the afternoon and I can get pictures of the bird and that is another new bird on my list of observed birds.

A new friend come to visit me on the bridge - White-eyed gull
I have never managed to get any good pictures and today I saw a group of them diving for fish. Far away so the record is a bit low. The streaming sound you can hear at about 33 seconds in to the recording is not a stream, it is a school of fish making the noise about 20 meters below me.
Anyone here that can be able to tell me if it is a Lesser or Greater Crested Tern from the recording?
It's a Pied Wheatear, not Cyprus Wheatear. Cyprus Wheatears don't get light like that in winter plumage, they stay very black and white with some peach colour on the breast in winter ... and females are practically identical, just a darker cap. Also Cyprus wheatears sit upright and proud, pied wheatear is hunched over and similar posture to hooded wheatear.
Nice shots though, I can tell you the dragonfly is a Vagrant Emperor, an interesting migratory species. I was actually out today trying to find larvae of this species in Cyprus as it isn't a confirmed successful breeding species out here with evidence.
Yes hope to see you soon too, will have to stock up on the pepsi 😄
Recorded with my ZOOM H5 Handy recorder. Highpass filter with Audacity. 2 recordings made to one sound clip. Strong winf when recording the sound.
6 o´clock this morning and I spotted 5 what I thought was pond herons, but thanks to www.birdforum.net I could get them identified as Black-crowned Night Heron.
They were quite noisy as soon as they took off. But when sitting they were quiet
The Night Herons took off and the crew was on deck working when I spotted the first bird using my bird drinking pool. I put it there not long after I joined the ship. And today I had a Pied Wheatear coming to drink water. Of cours, when I brought out my video camera the bird disappeared. Would have been nice to have a video of the bird drinking.
We put the bird on top of a console, easier to take pictures

Approaching Fujairah anchorage with 4 knots. No sign of any wildlife until it was almost time to go down from my watch. I spotted a single bird far away and I was lucky, the bird came flying over us to check us out. I got a picture and it is either a Black or Brown-headed Gull in winter plumage. And I went straight down to check the internet after my watch to see if I can learn to see the difference.
And I found the photography & birds web page. It is one of those web pages that you just know that you will revisit already at your first visit.
