Sunday 15th of April 2018 and the Chief Officer was in the CCR when I came on board. I know him from when he relived me on board Richard Mærsk in Turkey back in 2013. I went for dinner and we spent the evening talking about the good ol' times. We completed loading at 11 o'clock in the evening and he finished the paper work.

Monday 16th of April 2018 and the old Chief Officer left around 1 o'clock and we left the SPM buoy. We will drop the anchor for a day and we will leave 2 o'clock in the morning of the 17th of April in order to be in Bongkot at 6 in the morning on the 18th.
I had my sleep and for the first time in the history of Rita Mærsk we had good morning gymnastics in the CCR after the coffee break. The day passed very quickly as I kept myself very busy in the CCR and I almost missed dinner.

Tuesday 17th of April 2018 and we stopped to drift for the day. ETA 06:00 tomorrow morning, but now they wanted us to arrive at 13:00 instead. I prepared all the paper work for the loading. I did Risk Assessments that I threw away, they talk about safety but when the risk assessments shows that it is a dangerous job they expect us to do Risk Assessments showing that it is harmless. I have had this discussion with many of the Maersk Superintendents coming on board.
If the risk is too high we should have approval from the company. I asked how many they have got for approval.
- Hmm, well, none
- Shouldn't there be an alarm going off then?
And without exception, the accident reports we get say “Poor risk assessment” So the safety first is a joke. But Maersk is much much better than many of the other companies. I hear horror stories from the people coming here, happy to have got a job in Maersk. They tell me how it is working in their old companies and you would not believe me.
Good morning gymnastics
The day passed by very quickly as I was very busy. S kipped dinner, well, at least until 6 when I went to look for something and I ended up at the table. But my cabin is set up with tea machine and oatmeal. And I will start to train with our bike any day now as I want to prepare my “behind” for the Kiel Canal adventure on a bicycle.

Wednesday 18th of April 2018 and we started the day with a tool box meeting as usually. And yet again, on a ship and the crew have not seen a risk assessment before. And as on the other ships they know how to repeat the SAFETY FIRST and PROPER PPE. I tell them that I can as well have Polly the parrot sitting here saying “Polly want a cracker”

I ask them, no, I tell them that they are naked. I only give them one PPE.
- I tell you to go chipping, what PPE are you choosing?

Then I ask them what they would have chosen if I ask them to climb the mast. We train in using the safety harness, they have 4 on board and all of them only have 1 (ONE) hook. Always one hook connected so it is pretty pointless to have a safety harness with only one hook.
We arrived to the pilot station at 13:00 and we had all fast at Bongkot FSU 2 and a half hour later. We started to load at 16 twenty and we expect to leave tomorrow before lunch time.
We finished the first parcel at 22:20 and we made the ullage report. We have one representative from the Agent on board, and he have been on board for 13 years. He go home to visit some time when we're discharging. So he like it here on board Rita Mærsk

Thursday 19th of April 2018 and we completed loading at 10:20. We did the ullage report and calculations while they were disconnecting the cargo hose. We left about an hour later and I was late for lunch. About 22 hours to Map Ta Phut (มาบตาพุด) pilot station so there isn't much time for anything else than cargo planning and cargo related paper work.

We will have a day at anchor after discharging at Map Ta Phut (มาบตาพุด) and we will have to do our monthly drills. So it is a hectic schedule here on the coast of Thailand.

Friday 20th of April 2018 and our Pilot was on board just before 12 o'clock. All fast at TTT in Map Ta Phut (มาบตาพุด) at 13:00. We started to load just before 3 and we expect to be ready around 10 or 11 o'clock tomorrow morning. Way later than expected because some delays with pilots etc. Well, I don't mind a full night's sleep.

Saturday 21st of April 2018 and we completed discharging at 09:18 but the pilot could not come until 12 o'clock, but later changed to 11 o'clock and we dropped the anchor just before lunch. We will stay anchored here until tomorrow when we will leave for Bongkot. Lunch and I decided that enough is enough and I went to my office and I printed a new diet bet to put on the wall in the mess room. From now on it is 1000 US to get caught
Our 4/E was in the CCR and he had said that he want to lose 10kg. But he didn't dare to sign the diet bet. Well, my guess is that he will gain weight before he is due to go home.

Sunday 22nd of April 2018 and we left Map Ta Phut (มาบตาพุด) anchorage early morning and we were on our way when I came to the CCR at 8 o'clock. Plenty to do on deck and we finished the day with the pre arrival tests and checks for arrival tomorrow morning. Expect Pilot to come on board 06:00 at Bongkot. We expect to be in Bongkot for about 24 hours.

Monday 23rd of April 2018 and my alarm was going off at 5. I expect them to call me 20 minutes before six. And they did, Pilot will come on board at 6 and I had finished my oatmeal and tea by then. And today is the day my “diet bet” kicks in so it will be mostly oatmeal from now on.
It was a gorgeous morning when I came on the bridge, the sea was like a windmill pond, of course, there was some swell.
We started to load at 8 o'clock and I could start to prepare the discharge plans. First parcel ready at 1 o'clock in the afternoon. I was off to my room and they called me a moment later, all the tank radars were frozen and I went down to the CCR.
2nd parcel was ready at 7 o'clock in the evening. Third and last parcel is expected to be ready at 2 o'clock in the morning. Not much rest around here.

Tuesday 24th of April 2018 and my rest hours were red already when I came to the CCR when it was time to complete loading. Red rest hours due to broken down tank radars in the afternoon. But we got the radars to work again, most important. Anyway, they be red for the whole day. We're leaving at 3 o'clock after completion of the cargo documents. Arrival to Map Ta Phut (มาบตาพุด) 3 o'clock tomorrow morning and I must prepare for discharging during the day.

And when I came up I learned that we would drop the anchor tomorrow morning. There is a ship discharging at our jetty in Map Ta Phut (มาบตาพุด), so we will wait at the anchorage until early morning 26. Good, we can have our drills tomorrow.

Wednesday 25th of April 2018 and we were anchored when I came down to the CCR. Our jetty is occupied and we will stay here until 1 o'clock tomorrow morning. So we had time for our good morning gymnastics, finally, we have time for the good morning gymnastics.
When we finished the tool box/ safety meeting after the good morning gymnastics. A day at anchor means painting and chipping, and of course, all the other maintenance work we need to do. Otherwise we don't have much time between the ports. So the crew went on deck as soon as we were ready with the meeting.
I started to prepare the paperwork for the discharging in the CCR. A lot of paper work and I was ready just in time for our monthly drills at 10 thirty.

We were late for lunch as it took longer than expected with the drills. Third day on my diet and I had salad and chicken only. Breakfast and dinner is a cup of oatmeal in the cabin. And as the crew will go ashore in the afternoon I expect to drink Earl Grey tea and Pepsi MAX tonight. A little something to look forward to on an otherwise boring evening.

Thursday 26th of April 2018 and pilot at 01:00, then midnight, then 12:00, 15 thirty and 16:00. Then at 13:00 it was changed to 15:00 and we were on the way to the pilot station when it was changed to 18 thirty. Then 18:00, well, pulling figures out of the hat can't require much.
At least we had time for our good morning gymnastics and the crew could do some painting on deck. 18:45 was the latest and finally, around 7 the pilot was on board. We started discharging at 21:36 and we expect to be ready tomorrow afternoon.

Friday 27th of April 2018 and we completed discharging jus after 4 o'clock in the afternoon and we left Map Ta Phut (มาบตาพุด) just before 6 o'clock. Now we will see if we can make it in time to Bongkot tomorrow afternoon. Dead line 15:00 as it is day light mooring only.

Saturday 28th of April 2018 and the Pilot and Surveyor was on board just after 4 o'clock in the afternoon. They had decided to take us even though it was after 3 o'clock in the afternoon. Approaching Bongkot FSU #2 and I could see something looking like a huge oil slick. I asked the Loading Master if it was oil.
I had expected him to try to blow smoke up my behind, but no, he told me that they were cleaning the cargo tanks, and the oil, just pump it in to the sea.
Working on a tanker, the crew do near misses about busted light bulbs, but we have to work with oil spills around us. No one wants to know, just to make money. But they never forget to point out how environmental friendly they are.
We started to load just after 6 o'clock and first parcel was ready at 23:21 when we made a short stop to calculate the ullage before starting the 2nd parcel. I went back to my cabin and we expect to be ready with the 2nd parcel tomorrow morning around 7 o'clock.

Sunday 29th of April 2018 and we completed loading just before 14 thirty. Paper work and we left just before 4 o'clock in the afternoon, too late to make it to Map Ta Phut (มาบตาพุด) before 10 o'clock when they expect another ship to arrive to our jetty. We will see, we might have to wait at the anchorage. I don't mind, I have enough on my plate to keep me busy for a long time.
Really not time for much else than loading and discharging. In port every day so I can use the time. But if we have to wait before discharging we must go straight back to Bongkot to load. Otherwise we usually wait one day at the anchorage after discharging.

Monday 30th of April 2018 and we dropped anchor outside Si Racha, ศรีราชา in the evening. As the jetty in Map Ta Phut (มาบตาพุด) is occupied they decided to send us to Si Racha, ศรีราชา. The jetty is occupied here as well, until 13:00 tomorrow to start with. Later on it was changed to 15:00 so we will see.
We kept ourselves busy all day long, starting the day by test running the ODME. So we had to start by going down to the engine department to open up for the air and water to the ODME.

Everything was working OK, time passed by quickly and it was soon time for lunch. We dropped anchor just before 8 o'clock in the evening and now we just have to wait and see.
