 Bangkok - March 1996
Coming home from Rankki and I didn't stay very long in Go:teborg before I took off to Bangkok. Well, I remember f@ck all from March 1996 in Bangkok. My first time back since I moved in to  Rompo Mansion. The guy that I helped out by buying his TV had lived in my room for a few months while I had been gone. Of course, I remember going to pick up my snus at the custom close to Hualongpong train station in Bangkok.
I stepped inside to pick up my parcel. The custom officer called me and he opened my box. declaration: Old T-shirts and now it was embarrassing. What did he think? Why the hell is this looser sending this shit to Bangkok? Well, anyway, they did not know snus and I had for sure not written snuff on the custom declaration. Then it would have been expensive to pay the duty. The custom officer was looking in a dictionary and he could not  find the word snus. Ha ha ha, off course not.
After looking through the dictionary several times  he asked:
- Hmm, what is this? I did the internationally recognised sign for putting a  snus under the lip
- Is it food? It's very expensive to import food to Thailand. Well, it was not very expensive, I had to pay him a few dollars in duty and off  I went leaving the
T-shirts behind. 
Pictures, when I look at my pictures I remember several things. My friend  meet his wife at a BBQ at my place. well, actually,  future wife. They didn't got married until 5 years later  or something like that.
Well, they instantly turned in to Bangkok's cutest couple. I can't have stayed very long time in Bangkok, I signed off 2nd of March and I signed on 30th of March again. And I was waiting for 1 week in Dubai so it leaves 2 to 3 weeks that I spent in Bangkok. 
But back then I managed to do a whole lot of stuff in 2 weeks. If it would have been today one of two weeks would have  been spent in bed with a hangover. I don't remember if this was the first time at RCA or Royal City Avenue. But it's  my first pictures from RCA. And I can't remember us ever going to NASA disco again. But NASA had served us well and it doesn’t exist anymore. I found and interesting web page, 2bangkok.com when searching for
 NASA Superdome if you care to click on the ink. And I remember the DJ at one place, he gave me the CD with the song Pai Pai or whatever the name is. A very popular song.
I was at RCA with my friends and it was the first night I meet the guy I had meet in Phuket back in  '92 or '93. Turned out that we had a common friend in Bangkok and I didn't found out until I and my friend watched my slides from Phuket.
- Do you know him? - I have no clue who it is, I meet him in Phuket. Well, now we meet again after 3 or 4 years and we took off to RCA and I still have the CD as a souvenir from RCA. I don't remember the name of the place, but it was decorated with pages from comic books.    Sweden and it was time to fly to Dubai, UAE. I remember it like they wanted us to join the ship when they passed UAE on the way to Kuwait. So I was stand-by to leave.
Then we had to wait until the ship left Kuwait so I  got a few extra days in Bangkok. It was  not like I was disappointed because of the delay. A few days extra in Bangkok and we took the opportunity to get to know more about the night life of Bangkok.
And back then when I was 20 it was party every  day. Actually, Hotel 27 or Rompo Mansion. I can't remember many days staying at my room staring at the ceiling.
And I had my  reputation at Rompo Mansion to think of. When the music was too loud the security guards turned  of the power to my room.
It was good to have the security guards. I  remember when they were knocking on my door 7 o'clock in the morning.
- Hey, good to see you here. - Music... blah-blah.... - We're running low on beers. Can you help?  I handed them 500 baht and they took off to some convenient store nearby to buy Kloster beer for us. They were  soon returning with 2 or 3 bags of beers.
Of course, it was not as fun when you had to pass them the day after with a hangover force 9,7. But I learned to live with it so no problem. It was a friendly bunch.  |
