Thursday 20th of February 2025 and I went down to the entrance 10 minutes before 7 o'clock. I had booked my taxi to come pick me up at 7 o'clock. And I had had plenty time for my breakfast, tea and a “TUNA & ONION SURPRISE” ®
I checked my app and the car was on the way plunging down Sukhumvit Road, ETA 3 minutes. I went out and the taxi came over the bridge when I came outside.
My taxi is coming
On my way to Suvarnabhumi International
I only have my carry -on and a lap top bag and I put it in the front seat before I take my seat in the back. We take off and we have light traffic.
I expect about 30 minutes to get to Suvarnabhumi International but it is full stop with a “BUMPER TO BUMPER” traffic when we get up on the toll way.
We take off the toll way and we have light traffic again. I had checked-in 45 minutes after we had left home. I had asked if there were seats available seats in biz. It was full and I asked if monkey class was full as well.
The whole flight is full so no chance to have an empty seat next to me. I went to the security, in a good mood, just a wee bit more than 2 hours to Singapore so it will be OK.
There is a long line to the escalator going up to the security. And the line was hardly moving and I was expecting a long line to the security. But I found the area almost empty when I came up on the escalator.
I was through security in a couple of minutes even though they wanted me to open my carry-on bag. Taking the escalator down to the immigration and now it is “SELF SERVICE” gates at the immigration. And there were no people so I could go straight to one of the machines.
Good, no need to fill up the passports with a lot of stamps. And it worked very well and I was in the departure hall one hour after having left my room.
Long line to the security
Self-service immigration
And no exit stamp in my passport, this is progress. I usually have to waste money on new passports long before expiry dates because of all the stamps.
I remember once in Switzerland, they did not want to let me board the flight because my passport was fully stamped. They called the flight Manager and she told them to let me onboard, gold member and biz passenger so she did not expect any trouble.
And I had explained that I had a new passport waiting for me on the embassy.
Coconuts and soda water in the Silverkris lounge
Singapore Airlines flight SQ 705 departs from gate 7D, just next to Singapore Airlines SilverKris lounge. Otherwise I do not bother to visit the lounge, well, if there is plenty time I can go to enjoy a soda water.
But today, not much time but it was next to the gate and I went to enjoy a soda water. And they have fresh coconuts so I enjoyed two of them.
I left the lounge even though I was pretty sure boarding will be delayed. And of course, it was delayed, but I had a seat up front.
Waiting for the boarding to start
20 minutes or so late, and we could start boarding and I had chosen the last row when I checked-in on internet. And as the flight was full, I was in a hurry to get onboard to make sure I had space for my stuff in the overhead bin.
I was among the first on board so there was no problem to get my stuff in the overhead bin. I asked for an extension for my belt and I took my seat.
After a while there were two girls to take the remaining two seats next to me. I put on my seat belt and now I am ready to take off.
Boarding
I doze off and I wake up 40 minutes before arrival. I say no thanks to the food, but I ask for some orange juice. Juice from a pack, but the juice was actually very good
Landing in Singapore, Changi International Terminal 2 and again, self-service immigration and I have saved space from two immigration stamps in my passport.
And it was very convenient, scan passport, take a picture and I went to look for my driver. No checked-in luggage so straight oats the custom out to the arrival hall.
No sig off my driver and I go to check out the curb outside door 3 to 6. Still no sign of any driver with my name. And no sign of the car.
Looking for my driver
Javan Myna
After a while there is a guy coming holding a screen with my name. He had been waiting outside the custom. We went to get his car and I was waiting while he went to pick up the car in the parking house.
One Javan Myna landed next to me and I tried to get a picture and I report the bird to eBird. My first eBird checklist for this trip to Singapore. I was looking for more birds, but this was the only one I could see, so one bird only.
My driver is soon arriving with the car and I load my bags in to the back of the car.
Leaving Changi International behind
I come up with a plan as I will be at the hotel just after 2 o'clock in the afternoon. I want to check-in and I will go to have an afternoon bird watching session at Gardens by the Bay.
And no need to fiddle around with any taxi apps as I already have the GRAB app installed on my phone. And this is the thing to use according to my Driver.
But the sky is turning black and it looks like it will be rain in the afternoon. Rain or not, I will go to visit Gardens by the Bay to check it out preparing for tomorrow.

Singapore
The driver drops me at the hotel 10 minutes or so after 2 o'clock in the afternoon. I have lived at this hotel before, I recognize it. One of those hotels you like, but next time I have forgot the name of the hotel.
But now I will remember it and I will stay here next time in Singapore. Kettle, fridge and a very good location. I put my cheese in the fridge and I go down to book a taxi with my GRAB app. It is a 10$ from the hotel to the Gardens by the Bay
The taxi is just a couple of minutes away and I go out to wait next to the road and we are soon on the way towards Gardens by the Bay
Waiting for the taxi
It start to rain, just a drizzle when I am in the taxi, but I can handle a drizzle. If it starts to pour down I will have to take cover on the garden.
Just click HERE to find out if I see any bird is the Gardens by the Bay. And will it start to rain? We will soon find out!
OK, it has come to my knowledge that we have senior citizens visiting my web page. How hard can it be? So it's not very easy for them to see the blue coloured links to the next page.
