Birding/ Bird watching in Suan Rot Fai/ Queen Sirikit Park in Bangkok, Thailand

Wednesday 5th of June 2019 and I was going back to check out on the Stork-billed Kingfisher and the Olive-backed Sunbird nest. It was boxing exercise and yoga in the morning so I had to go back in the afternoon. I took a taxi and I arrived to Suan Rot Fai and I started my eBird checklist at 14:57. And today I started where I use to stop

I left the taxi behind and it started to rain after about 10 minutes. So I had to stop at the hut at the wave link taking cover from the rain. There was another guy taking cover there was well and no sign of the annoying drizzle to stop.

I gave up after 20 minutes and I crossed the water on the wave link walking towards the owl area and the Stork-bill and Sunbird nests. Crossing the wave link and I spot a male Scarlet-backed Flowerpecker in one of the trees.

Across the wave link walking towards the owl area and I see one Javan Pond Heron at the ponds under the Asian barred owlet tree. I looked for the Asian barred owlet but I could not see it. There was a lot of Oriental Magpie-robins and of course, the Large-billed Crow was seen all over the park. Malaysian Fantails seems to be courting chasing each other so there is life in the park.

But the rain made me walking a little quicker than I had wished for to reach the other end of the park to get a taxi back home as I don´t want my camera to be wet like my MK III. And by the way, after having serviced my MK III it looks like new with all the changed parts. So now I have my MK III as a back-up camera.

Spotted Owlet

One of the Spotted Owlets was sitting in the tree, looked to be one of the young ones as it was looking to be small, but hard to tell when there was no other owlets to compare with. Crossing the pond on the log and the first thing I discovered that the Olive-backed Sunbird nest was gone.

The area at the Stork-billed Kingfisher looked like a camping side with all the tents with people hiding with cameras.

Asian Openbill

Coming to the exit and there was two Asian Koel sitting in a tree, one female and one male. Well, time to leave and I was very disappointed that they had removed the sunbird nest. Took a while before a taxi came by and to get back home took 90 minutes in the traffic jam.
