Tuesday 10th of February 2015 and I had planned to take the Subway to Hua Lamphong and taxi to Museum of Siam from there. We finished the boxing and as there wasn't much traffic when I reached Asoke I decided to take a taxi all the way to the museum.
Yesterday they sold stickers from a motorcycle on Thonglor. Today I ran in to a guy selling brushes from a motorcycle when walking to Asoke. Road safety is a priority around here

It was not so much traffic, but it took me around and hour to get to the Museum of Siam. And I had to walk the last 100 meters as there was road work in progress and the road was not accessible by the taxi.
I got out of the taxi and I crossed the street and I walked down towards the museum and I asked two guards if they knew where the entrance was.
They pointed and told me to go to the other side of the building. I said thanks and I took off towards the entrance on the other side of the building. I ended up behind two other tourists at the entrance. And there was a girl telling them that it was 300 Baht per person.
I could not help myself. I saw the sign with the prices and it said it was 100 baht for adults in Thai. And 300 Baht for foreigners. So foreigners have to pay 3 times the price for Thai people. I wonder why.
Some people have the argument that it is because foreigners don't pay tax in Thailand. But we pay tax in Europe and Thai have access to museums at the same price as we pay. So the tax argument doesn’t fly. The girl told me that I only had to pay 100 Baht. But the other two had to pay 300 Baht each. She still thought we were together so I told her that I was alone.
I paid 100 Baht and I got a yellow wrist band as a ticket. They gave me a pamphlet and I thought it was garbage as usual. I flipped through the pamphlet and it turned out to be full of interesting information. I was hungry and I asked them if there was a restaurant. They told me there was a restaurant around the corner. I said thanks and I told them that I would be back when I had have my lunch. And as I'm at a museum I didn't expect much of a restaurant.
So I was not disappointed when I saw the place. Looked like a coffee shop. I stepped inside and the first thing I spotted was some delicious looking cakes and pastries on display in a glass fridge.
I was quick to look away to avoid getting tempted to buy any of the pastries. They had Almond croissants, one of my favourites. But I'm on diet. I asked if they had green curry.
They had green curry and I asked for a bowl of the green curry and 2 plates of steamed rice. And they had Earl Grey tea but not from pots.
But they had tea in some kind of jug so it was OK. And the green curry was, maybe, the best green curry I have ever had in Bangkok. And I asked for a blue berry Danish and one almond croissant and another jug of tea.
I asked for two more of the almond croissants and I asked the staff to deliver them discrete. No need to be embarrassed eating almond croissants like there is no tomorrow on full display for the other guests. The staff delivered the almond croissants with finesse and discretion.
Best Green Curry in Bangkok, and it was very cheap
If you ever pass Muse Kitchen by Elefin you should take the opportunity to have a meal here. Very nice food, cheap and excellent service. I paid my bill and I went back to the museum. I started on the first floor in a room they called somtam (spicy papaya salad)
When I was ready I walked up to the 3rd floor to continue with the tour around Museum of Siam.

I was very happy when I left the museum. A very good restaurant and a very good museum. It had been interesting and two hours had disappeared very quick. Yeah, time turns quick when you have a good time. This was money well spent. Highly recommended and a place you don't want to miss if you are visiting Bangkok.
I left Museum of Siam behind and the female staff waved good bye to me. Always friendly people around when you're in Bangkok. And at the Museum of Siam it had been an exceptionel staff.
Maybe the friendliest staff I had ever met at a museum. But now I don't nee to come back here again, at least not in a few years. But I will for sure come back, at least to have a ,meal at Muse The Kitchen by Elefin.

I had a good time at the Museum of Siam. I arrived at 1 thirty and I was behind two other tourists. The girl told them that it was 300 Baht per person. I could not keep my mouth shut.
- Whoa whoa, it says 100 Baht for adults, I said pointing at the sign
- This is for Thai, foreigners 300 Baht.
But I only had to pay 100 Baht, and I got an orange wrist band and an information pamphlet that actually turned out to be very good. I was hungry and I asked if they had a restaurant. They directed me to the restaurant and I went for a quick lunch before the museum.

It was very cheap as you can see on the receipt. It was nice and clean and a very friendly staff. I asked for the green curry with steamed rice and a pot of tea. Well, they didn't had pots for the tea. But they had a kind of jug so it worked as a pot.
The food, maybe the best green curry I have had in Bangkok, AND 90 BAHT, less than 3 US Dollars. This price make the restaurant excellent
So was it all "Party whistles" and “Confetti”? No it wasn’t. They had cakes and pastries on display in a glass fridge. Blueberry Danish and Almond Croissants plus a lot of other good stuff.
And this was not good, I had to order a Blueberry Danish and an Almond Croissants. This was so good so I had to ask for the last two Almond Croissants as well. And top service, I asked them to sneak me the Almond Croissants so no one would see it. And they managed to get me the pastries without me having to feel embarrassed. I will be back when I’m in the area next time

The Museum of Siam was worth every Baht. I spent one and a half hour walking through the history of Siam and Thailand. And it was really interesting and this is the place you don't want to miss when in Bangkok
Rated:
SCAM ALERT!
300 Baht for Foreigners and 100 Baht for Thais
I give Museum of Siam the rating EXCELLENT with the remark: Scam alert
Imagine charging foreigners 3 times the normal fee in Europe. But apart from that it was an excellent museum. And one and a half hour passed by very quickly.

I had decided to walk down to the Flower Market at the Yodpiman Riverwalk. I have passed the Yodpiman Riverwalk on my river cruises and now I wanted to check it out. It was 5 minutes’ walk to the river from the Museum of Siam.
And last time I was going along Chao Phraya River was 25 years ago with a British guy I had met in India. I was not impressed back then and I have never been back. But WOW! It is a remarkable change along the river. New nice housings and a huge clean up.
The whole of Bangkok looks much better, when going to the Museum of Siam I saw plenty new houses. Ad they were tearing down a huge area with old houses that looked terrible. So yes, Bangkok looks better by the year.
But the Yodpiman Riverwalk was a disappointment. There was exactly nothing to do and I was going to get back to Hua Lamphong with a taxi and from there back to Sukhumvit with the subway. Here was nothing to do.
But looking at the bridges crossing the Chao Phraya River, the bridges was full of cars and the traffic didn't moved. What to do? I remembered the Chao Phraya River express boats. I was standing just next to the boat pier. Yeah, why not? I take the boat to Sapan Taksin and the sky train from there to Silom and the subway from Silom to Sukhumvit.
Yeah, this was a very good idea, I bought a ticket and the ticket set me back by 40 Baht. The routes and boats are market in 4 different colours. Red, Yellow, Blue and Orange and you can spot the different boats by the colour of the flag. There is also one unflagged boat.
And the coloured flags are also flying from the piers where the different routes stops. I could use boat with blue or orange flag to get to Sapan Taksin (Sathorn station) A boat with orange flag arrived, it was full. The guy working on the pier told me to wait for the “blue” boat as these boats were bigger. So I waited, well, I never had any plans to get on board the orange boat as the boat was full, very full.
I came up with yet another brilliant plan while waiting. I will take a day to explore the Chao Phraya Express Boat routes. A day pass cost 150 Baht and then I can go up and down the Chao Phraya River as much as I want. This will be my next project, as soon as I have the time.

The tourist (Blue flag) are more expensive than the other boats. BUT THIS IS NOT A SCAM!!! The “blue” boat is bigger and usually not so crowded. There is also a Guide explaining what we're passing on the Chao Phraya River.
There is also a very good service. And they tell you that the price to go on the “ORANGE” boat is half of going by the “blue” boat. So it is not a scam. And the “blue” boat don't stop at all the piers so it is a wee bit quicker getting to your destination. That is of course if your intention is to get off at any of the pirrs the “blue” boat go to. Otherwise you have to take one of the other Chao Phraya Express Boats. Just click above for routes, prices and map.

We arrived to Sapan Taksin (name of the sky train station) or the Sathorn (Boat pier name) and I walked up to the sky train station and I was soon on my way home. And there were plenty people on the sky train. But taxi was not an option at this time of the day.
I got off at Silom and I walked to the subway station and I was lucky with the subway. Crowded, but not too bad.
Back home and I had an apple before taking off to Terminal 21 to drink tea with my friend.
I had two pots of Earl Grey tea, but nothing to eat. 2 girls next to us had a giant waffle with whipped cream, strawberries and ice cream. And I was so close to ask for one of those waffles. And my friend, she was not to any help. But I managed to stay strong. But I was drooling while interrogating the girls about the waffle.
Tomorrow, Thai school in the morning and then I will be off to Bangkok National Museum during the afternoon. I will have a few hours before my evening Thai language class starts. And if you want to see the Bangkok National Museum just click HERE
