Aladdin's adventure in Khao Yai National Park

Sunday 18th of January 2015 and my alarm went off at 07:41 and I had been sleeping non-stop from 11 o'clock. I was in the shower when my friend called to wake me up. I packed my bag and I went to the restaurant for my breakfast. We will check out and we will keep our bags in my friend's car until we return from the National park.

Our Guide and Driver arrived 10 minutes before 9 and we were soon off to Khao Yai National Park. Well, today there were no one sitting in the back going to the park. We will start the day with a walk and you can check out the list of Wildlife in Khao Yai National Park so you get an idea of what animals we can run in to.

It was very nice to be inside the car today and it seemed like it was quicker to get to Khao Yai National Park when sitting inside the car. We passed the landscape and suddenly we passed a garage. I could not help to observe a chain block hanging over a car from a wooden frame.

It looked like a flimsy frame and I would for sure not come close to this construction when they have a load hanging in the chain block. But here it is OK, and if someone gets a engine in the head, well, no one cares except for the closest family.

Have a look at this construction! Imagine working under a 500 kg load hanging from this construction.
For sure, this would have been forbidden in Sweden.
Yet another Smiley on www.aladdin.st - Hmm, not strange that all the jobs have moved from NW Europe to countries where no one gives a shit.

We entered the park and we passed the viewing point without stopping. But we stopped after a few minutes and we got out of the car. I was soon to discover why, there was a Great Hornbill
The great hornbill

(Buceros bicornis) also known as the great Indian hornbill or great pied hornbill, is one of the The Great hornbilllarger members of the hornbill family. It is found in South and Southeast Asia.

Its impressive size and colour have made it important in many tribal cultures and rituals. The great hornbill is long-lived, living for nearly 50 years in captivity.

It is predominantly frugivorous, but is an opportunist and will prey on small mammals, reptiles and birds.

in one of the trees. I was very happy, this was one of the birds that I really wanted to see while in Khao Yai National park.

It is a beautiful bird, a male. They had a nest in the tree, at least I think so. The male was collecting fruit and he went to a hole in the tree. I stood on a branch and he feed the female inside the tree with the fruit he had collected.

This was a very good start of the second day. I was very happy when we left and the pictures have turned in to a small movie that is available for you to enjoy below.

We went to the head quarter to register and then we were taking of for yet another hike. We were starting from the head quarter and we were going down to the bottom of the valley and then up on a mountain and down again.

We were soon running in to a very small lizard. And we were soon seeing gibbons, now I was very happy, first the Great Hornbill and now Gibbons. But it is very hard to take pictures through the trees. The Gibbons are swinging themselves between the tree tops and it looks nice when they swing. But I never managed to get any really good pictures.

We were watching the Gibbons and we could hear a big group of people approaching. Turned out to be 200 Thai students and school children that came after us. And all the noise, well, no more animals to be seen on hour hike. But I was happy to have seen the Gibbons.

And anyway, hiking in the forest and you must look where you step all the time so there is really not any opportunity to look for animals during the hike.

We run in to Gibbons

Gibbons

(/ˈɡɪbənz/) are apes in the family Hylobatidae /ˌhaɪlɵˈbeɪtɨdiː/. The family historically contained one genus, but now is split into four genera. Gibbons occur in tropical and subtropical rainforests from northeast India to Indonesia and north to southern China, including the islands of Sumatra, Borneo, and Java.

Also called the lesser apes, gibbons differ from great apes (chimpanzees, gorillas, orangutans, bonobos and humans) in being smaller, exhibiting low sexual dimorphism, in not making nests, and in certain anatomical details in which they superficially more closely resemble monkeys than great apes do. But like all apes, gibbons evolved to become tailless. Gibbons also display pair-bonding, unlike most of the great apes. Gibbons are masters of their primary mode of locomotion, brachiation, swinging from branch to branch for distances of up to 15 m, at speeds as high as 55 km/h. They can also make leaps of up to 8 m, and walk bipedally with their arms raised for balance. They are the fastest and most agile of all tree-dwelling, non-flying mammals.

Depending on species and sex, gibbons' fur coloration varies from dark to light brown shades, and anywhere between black and white. It is rare to see a completely white gibbon.

Gibbon species include the siamang, the white-handed or lar gibbon, and the hoolock gibbons.

The walk took about two to two and a half hour. We ran in to all the students when we came to the end of the hike. They were having their lunch and they asked us if we wanted to join them. Of course, with an exciting foreign นักผจญภัย this was not anything I found strange. I hated to disappoint them, but I'm on diet.

When we were back on the road we had to walk for about 500 meters to reach the head quarter and by now we were very hungry. We passed 4 Sambar deer’s on the way and I stopped to have a few pictures. Now, where is our driver? She had promised to make the Gai Phat Met Mamuang for me and I was hungry! Only a few minutes’ walk remaining.

A word of precaution! Sorry to have to use this kind of language, but what the fuck is going through someone’s mind throwing garbage in a National Park. There were garbage all over the place.
Fucking twats! Just throw the garbage out the car window!
Totally uneducated and unaware of what going on. Well, must be nice to live your life like that, not knowing anything just have to worry about sleep and food

Me and my friend took a seat in the restaurant and our Driver was soon coming. She went out in the kitchen to start the cooking. I don't understand, she works both at the coffee shop and the Aladdin's adventure in Khao Yai National Parkrestaurant and only God knows where else.

She did not make one plate, but TWO plates of fried chicken with cashew nuts for me. And it was so good. And right there and then I decided to participate in yet another cooking class in Bangkok. Now I have 3 meals I want to learn how to cook
• Khaow Soy (Chiang Mai curry soup)
• Gai Phat Met Mamuang (Fried chicken with cashew nuts)
• Khaeng Kiow Wan (Green curry) Repeated class!

I will have a look in to this as soon as I have the time. Remaining things to do on our itinerary, another jungle walk and yet another waterfall. Me and my friend made a decision, we will skip the rest and go back to Bangkok.

We have had a beautiful weekend and I was very happy about the Great Hornbill and the gibbon. It was fun to see the elephant, but this was nothing compared to Africa. The deer’s, well, they were so used to people so they walked around us on the parking lot and restaurant at the head quarter.

But the garbage, who the foock foes to a National Park and throw garbage out the car windows? Yes, it was a huge difference in attitude between the national parks in Thailand and Africa. But we have had a very nice time. And we will be back, or we will go to another national park. My friend, what a change he have been through. Before it was always Zoo, every time I mentioned safari he told me it was better with the Zoo. Now he only talks about go looking for animals.

And when we walked in the forest, when we passed some plastic garbage he took it in his pocket and brought back to the garbage bin at the head quarter. Yes, we have a winner! Yet another Smiley on www.aladdin.st

Our new friends dropped us at the hotel and we were soon on the way back to Bangkok. It was very heavy traffic until we reached Saraburi. Construction work on the road and my friend was angry. Why the Yet another Smiley on www.aladdin.st don't they do this Monday to Friday when the traffic is light. Always heavy weekend traffic between Bangkok and Khao Yai on the weekends.
- They have for sure not eaten salmon, he said

Yet another Smiley on www.aladdin.st This guy is for sure getting more and more like a Swede by the day. (Picking up plastic garbage)I had explained that salmon and the fat from salmon (at least 200 gr salmon per day) is very good for your brain. He also told me that it was better that the horses took care of the maintenance planning as horses had bigger heads.

I was back home at 6 o'clock and it was nice to step inside my apartment. But as I had no fruit at Tops Markethome I needed to go to Tops Market at Sukhumvit Soi 19.

I was going to meet a friend at a snooker place, the Hustler at Time Square and Bangkok Post - Sukhumvit shakedownthat is close to Tops Market. And back home there was time to read Bangkok Post

Yes, Bangkok Post had an article about the harassment of the tourists in Bangkok and I read it before leaving for Time Square. I walked to Time Square and my friend was playing pool when I Aladdin's adventure at the Hustler in Bangkokarrived to the Hustler. I had made a decision while walking to Time Square.

I felt very small after all the walking in Khao Yai and I decided not to go to any restaurant. Fruit only! I had a soda water at the Hustler before I went to Tops Market to buy papaya. A bag of apples and pineapple. And I was very unlucky as some other stuff ended up in my shopping basket. I walked back home and I was very pleased with my weekend. For sure, better and cheaper than drinking San Miguel Light in Bangkok. And no hangover!

And I found a new Thai (Lao) dish that I really like. I discussed the Thai food with my friend and the Driver. I like to go to Baan Khanita to eat Thai food. Clean and nice and I think the problem is that I haven't found any clean Thai restaurants. Some restaurants are outright disgusting.

Well, restaurants are none of my problems anymore. A week have passed by and I have not been to any restaurant, not even one single time since I came back from Khao Yai. At least not what I can Aladdin's adventure at pro Language school in Bangkokremember. OK, once, I was at Foodland on Sukhumvit Soi 5. What I was going to buy? I cannot remember. This was my shop of choice some 15 to 20 years ago. But the area have turned in to something I don't care much for and now I do my shopping at Tops or Villa Market.

Well, anyway, I looked up and it said Bosporus Turkish Restaurant. I could not believe my eyes, a Turkish restaurant, this I MUST try. I went up on the 2nd floor above Foodland on Sukhumvit Soi 5. I was drooling delirious with anticipation when I stepped out from the elevator on the 2nd floor. Baklava, please, my diet! Baklava should be banned, seriously, they are so good it should be against the law to serve them. At least to serve them to me.

How it was, well, I made the below review on Tripadvisor:

Bosphorus Turking Restaurant in Bangkok

And yes, we can see that Review Man had been out on town eating too much again. Well, but otherwise, school every day plus boxing exercise in the afternoon when I'm back home from school.
Baklava

(/ˈbɑːkləvɑː/, /bɑːkləˈvɑː/, or /bəˈklɑːvə/; Ottoman Turkish: باقلوا [bɑːklɑvɑː]) is a rich, sweet pastry made of layers of filo filled with chopped nuts and sweetened and held together with syrup or honey. It is characteristic of the cuisines of the former Ottoman Empire, and is also found in Central and Southwest Asia.

Baklava

Baklava

Baklava

Although the history of baklava is not well documented, there is evidence that its current form was developed in the imperial kitchens of the Topkapı Palace in Istanbul. The Sultan presented trays of baklava to the Janissaries every 15th of the month of Ramadan in a ceremonial procession called the Baklava Alayı.

Two well-supported proposals for the pre-Ottoman roots of this Istanbul dessert are that it came from a Central Asian Turkic tradition of layered breads, or that it came from Roman placenta cake, part of the Byzantine culinary traditions of the city of Istanbul, which had been the capital of the Eastern Roman Empire.

And I have evening classes two times per week. Those evening classes are a bit of a mine field. My Aladdin's adventure at pro Language school in Bangkokfriend always wants to go drink beer at Hemingway's on Sukhumvit Soi 12, just around the corner from school.

But now he knows that I'm on diet and he is always very quick to add that I can have a pot of tea instead.

We went to see another friend there the other night. I had 2 pots of teas and they had a few beers and whiskey. My tea was more expensive than their drinks together. Same later on in the evening. Everywhere we went my diet drinks were more expensive. A beer 105 Baht and a diet drink 110 Baht.

Never mind, no hangover and I get smaller by the

day and that is the most important. But I save a lot of money on my papaya.

After the boxing and me and my friend was sitting outside the safety guard house at my condo. One of Papayathose pick-up trucks/ markets came by and I asked if they had papaya. 35 Baht per kilo, 10 fruits and I paid 350 Baht. I pay around 60 Baht for half a fruit at Tops Market and I get almost 2 fruits for that price from the back of the pick-up.

OK, it is nice that the fruits are peeled at Tops, but I miss the papaya seeds. So now I can have the papaya seeds as well. We have all read about “The Surprising Health Benefits of Papaya Seeds” so this is nothing I want to miss.

And I'm on my 2 to 3 hours of constitutional every day again. And I have not had a beer for a very long time so I will Yet another Smiley on www.aladdin.st hopefully lose weight like there is no tomorrow, Yet another Smiley on www.aladdin.st hmm, if I only can stay away from the Baklava at Bosphorus Turkish Restaurant.

Well, I passed through the Benjasiri Park on my evening constitutional and I decided to go there tomorrow to take pictures of them playing the Sepak takraw. So just click HERE and you will soon be in the Benjasiri Park in the middle of Bangkok
