Birding/ Bird watching on Poland

Wednesday 4th of May 2022 and I was still angry at myself for forgetting the computer in the security. But also at the airport, no answer on emails or phone calls. But I still had my hopes high to get the computer back again.

I had to change my plans regarding the birding here in Warsaw when MyChauffeurDrive.com ducked up my taxi booking. They had returned all my money and I will use my taxi app, the same I used in Bucharest. So, my new plan is to visit the below eBird hotspots:

Warszawa--Vistula River, Zawady

Wilanów Palace & Lake

Wisła--Praski brzeg

Stawy Raszyńskie

Warszawa--Zgorzała Lake

Royal Łazienki Park

This is the eBird hotspots with a high bird count in the Warsaw area and I will try to check them out. It was a beautiful morning and I booked a taxi on the app and we were soon on our way to the first eBird hotspots.

Warszawa--Vistula River, Zawady

Took about 30 minutes to reach Vistula River, Zawady and I got out on the road side. If you come here, don’t, be alarmed. There is a stair over the embarkment. Just cross the train track and walk up the stairs. When you get out of the taxi it looks like nothing.

As soon as you are over the embarkment you are in a beautiful area and there is a lot of birds. There is a walk path down to the river and plenty birds to be seen on the way.

I walk down the stairs and I am halfway when I notice a bird landing in the tree above me. I go back up on the embarkment and I spot a Eurasian Jay in the tree. I go back down the stairs and I can hear plenty birds walking towards Vistula River.

Hear plenty birds but to get pictures was a wee bit more different.

Back at the stairs over the embarkment and I booked a taxi that was here to pick me up after a few minutes. I have planned to do one more eBird hotspot: before going back to the hotel to see if there is any news about my computer. But I decided to go straight to the hotel and continue the birding after lunch.

We were on the way in the taxi and I am really impressed by Warsaw, a really nice and clean city with a lot of green. And of course, most cities will look good in the gorgeous weather we have.

There is no news from Bucharest Airport, actually nothing at all. Their LOST AND FOUND is like it is none existing. Telephone calls goes unanswered and I tried a lot of different numbers.

I had tea and cheese in my room for lunch before ordering a taxi on my app and I was soon on my way to Wilanów Palace & Lake to look for birds.

Wilanów Palace & Lake

The taxi dropped me at the park and it was 50 meters walk to the palace entrance and the ticket was 7 Zloty. About a dollar or two. I walked through the garden and I was soon in the park about 100 meters from the entrance gate.

The garden looks nice but I did not see any birds there while passing through.

I could hear a lot of birds in the park and I had just entered the park when I spotted a Fieldfare collecting food so there is most likely nest with babies close by.

I walked past a pond and there were some birds, of course Mallards and one of them was having babies. There was also two Mandarin Ducks in the pond.

There was also one Moorhen that I managed to get pictures of as the bird was not very scared.

I was happy with my visit to the park and I went to book a taxi buying a bottle of water to enjoy while waiting. I finished my water and I could see the taxi approaching on my app in the phone. It is now 3 o'clock in the afternoon and I have planned for one more stop before going back to my hotel. I will stop at the mall to buy a new computer on the way back to my hotel.

Wisła--Praski brzeg

I got out of the taxi and I walked down towards the river. There were plenty people with camp fires and BBQ. I gorgeous area but of course, not many birds as there were a lot of people. I could hear a lot of birds in the forest but the only bird I could see was a starling.

So I decided to leave early and I stopped the eBird app after 37 minutes.

I asked the taxi driver to take me to the Golden Terrace, Złote Tarasy, a shopping center where I hope to find a computer shop. I buy a laptop and I go back to Radisson Blu Sobieski Hotel. I had two cheese burgers for dinner, no bread and fries. ONLY THE BURGERS!

I am soon to realize, I still have hope to get back my computer so I bought the cheapest HP computer in the shop. This was not good enough so I will have to go back tomorrow to buy a more expensive computer.

+++++++++++++++
Thursday 5th of May 2022
and I have cheese and tea for breakfast in my room before booking a taxi on my mobile app. No news from Bucharest regarding my computer. This is really a poor standard, I had expected much more from an International Airport in European Union. I would expect an International Airport to find any missing items in the security within seconds.

I book a taxi and we are soon on the way to the green areas outside Warsaw City. First stop for today is at Stawy Raszyńskie.

Stawy Raszyńskie

I get out of the taxi and I start my eBird app at 07:51. There are a couple of ponds in the area and walk paths so you can walk around looking for birds. Some of the paths are going through vegetation and you cannot see the lakes because of the vegetation and reeds.

There were some people exercising in the area but I was alone for the most of it.

I walk through the bushes when I hear a Great Reed Warbler singing from the reeds. I cannot see the bird but I make a recording with my ZOOM H5. I continue through the vegetation and I come out to the second bird watching tower that I see in the area.

The last bird I see is a Eurasian Blackcap and I make a recording with my ZOOM H5.

The bird was against the sun but looked light grey on the chest so it might be a White Throat.

Really hard to come close as the bird kept quite when I was pottering about on the ground. Otherwise, it was a loud song

Today's track at Stawy Raszyńskie

I book a taxi and I will make one more stop before going back to Radisson Blu Sobieski Hotel to pick up my computer. I will bring it back to Media Markt at the Złote Tarasy and change it for a better one. The next birding spot, Zgorzała Lake is not very far away.

I use the BOLT taxi app, same as in Bucharest and it is very good. There was soon a taxi stopping to pick me up and I was on my way.

Warszawa--Zgorzała Lake

I had put my “DROP OFF” point a bit away from the paved road and it was a bumpy road. So I told the driver that he did not need to go to the drop off point, I will walk from the road. He was happy and I said BYE BYE and I got out and I started my eBird app.

The first bird I see is a Grey Heron in the reeds. There is a board walk along the lake but there is too much reeds to see the lake sides. I could hear the Great Reed Warbler all over the areas when they are singing in the reeds. And there are many of them.

There were of course Coots in the lake and there was a Mute Swan coming to say hello when I was sitting on the board walk. I managed to see one of the Great Red Warblers of the many Great Reed Warblers I could hear in the area.

I could also hear Bitterns but I could not see any of them.

Lunch at the hotel, cheese burgers without the bread and fries and I was off to return my new computer. I found a new, almost double price and now the computer was working properly. The first computer was so slow it took hours to install windows.

Trying to open a photo was next to impossible, but now it seems to work and I was happy.

I booked a taxi to go to the eBird hotspot: Royal Łazienki Park to have a look for birds.

Royal Łazienki Park

I get out of the taxi and I start the eBird app at 16:49. There are plenty people visiting the park. I see two children looking at something in the bushes, turns out to be a squirrel. But I discover a Great Tit and I get a picture.

I ran in to a Mandarin Duck in one of the ponds and I took a few pictures
