Wednesday 27th of April 2022 and my alarm goes off quarter past 4 o'clock. I go out at 7 and I had expected us to take off to the boat in Tulcea. But we were not going to leave until 8 thirty. So I had tea and avocado for breakfast enjoying a lovely morning.
I watched the birds in the garden, the House Sparrows had nest underthe roof tiles and the Collared Doves had their nests,or in progress to build nest.

We left Verada Tour Guest House in their van. The owner was driving and we will stop at a Supermarket and at the ATM on the way to the marina. We found an ATM and there was a Supermarket next door so I had a bag of drinks when we left for the marina. It will be the same guy driving the boat as was picking me up in Bucharest yesterday.
It was a big boat and we removed the roof top from the aft half of the boat. I had a sit down in the sofa and we left Tulcea and I started my eBird app at 08:29. I opened a bottle of MAX and I enjoyed the morning on aft “deck”

We run east towards the Black Sea in Danube for 5 or 10 minutes before we turn north in to Mila 35 Canal and after a while we turn in to another smaller canal going towards north and the Garla Sireasa. There were plenty Little Egrets in the Mila 35 and we spotted two Common Kingfishers.
But as soon as we left Mila 35 and got in to the narrow canal we spotted many Common Kingfishers along the water.
It is a very beautiful area, and I was pleasantly surprised, no mosquitos and it was pure enjoyment to cruise along the beautiful surroundings.

We reached some forester station or something and my Guide had some friends working there so we stopped to say hello. I spotted 2 House Sparrows and some Barn Swallows at the station.

Morning track in the Danube Delta
I left my phone in the boat and all the apps had stopped due to overheating so I had to restart my eBird app and by then it was 12:09. Did not take long before we spotted one Dalmatian Pelican together with two Caspian Gulls. The Pelican took off but the Caspian Gulls stayed behind so I could get some pictures.
We spotted a Great White Pelican few hundred meters away so I could get a picture.

Today's track between Lacul Nebun and Lacul Furtuna
My Guide was going to pick up a friend that will come with us to Tulcea. I stop my e-bird app at 14:49and I restart the app at 14:52 and now I am going to run the app until we are back in Tulcea. We moved full speed towards Tulcea, but we stopped to help a guy rowing his boat. My Guide got on board his boat and started his engine and he was very happy.

Today's track at eBird hotspot: Danube Delta--Canalul Mila 35
Back in Tulcea and we stop to fill up gas
My Guide was very surprised, we had only used 36 litres of gasoline during the day. I told him that we had only been driving very slowly to look for birds. He had expected a much higher consumption. We were happy. I spotted a White Stork on the way back to the hotel and we made a U-turn to get some pictures.
Of course, most of the stork was covered by grass when we were back in position. I took a picture and we continued towards Verada Tour Guest House in Somova.
White Stork
I had tea coming back to Verada Tour Guest House and then I checked today's pictures. Much garbage, but there was a few I was happy about. We will leave for Carorman tomorrow morning and this promise to be exciting. Just click HERE to find out if we see any birds.
