Sunday 7th of March 2021 and I met my Guide from CYPRUS BIRD WATCHING TOURS on the street at 6 thirty and I recognised him. He had bought a new car that was real comfy as it was bigger than the car he used last time I was here.
We took off and we had to turn around after 100 meter as I had forgotten my e-cig.
We will start at Anarita Park and we could hear the Corn Buntings singing all over the area.
We left the big road from Paphos and we were at the Anarita Park and we stopped on the gravel road as we had a Corn Bunting sitting on a wire and I took the chance to make a recording.

At Anarita (Αναρίτα) Park
Anarita (Αναρίτα) Park was the place where we spotted the Finsch's Wheatear and we spotted the bird at the same spot today as well. Most likely the exact same bird we spotted 3 years ago. The bird was flying between the exact same two rocks as the last time.
I spotted 3 or 4 birds that I had never seen before, but not many pictures. We spotted one Great Spotted Cuckoo and we left the car to try to sneak up on the bird trying to get some pictures.
We managed to get a little bit closer before the Great Spotted Cuckoo took off. As soon as the cuckoo took of it was mobbed by Corn Buntings attacking and chasing away the cuckoo.

We leave Anarita Park to drive to Episkopi (Επισκοπή) Environmental Centre and Village to have a look for the Cyprus scops owl. We stop at the Episkopi Rock under the Episkopi Environmental Centre to have a look for the Falcon pair that have nested on the cliff side for years.

No sign off any falcons, but there were hundreds of Eurasian Jackdaws nesting on the cliff side.

We park at the Environmental Centre and we walk straight to the tree where the Cyprus scops owl use to be sitting. I could not see the owl even though my Guide pointed out the owl. I looked and I looked up the tree. I saw the owl all the time but it looked as a part of the branch.
I took a picture, very over exposed and I could see the owl, and it was a very small owl.

We drive to the Ezousas Valley from the Environmental Centre and it turned out to be a terrible ride. The road on the mountain was very narrow and I suffered from vertigo looking down the mountain side. We could hear birds everywhere.
The Cetti's Warbler was in every bush and the birds was singing with a very loud song.
But it was impossible to see the birds and I really wanted pictures of the Cetti's Warbler

We spotted one Long-legged Buzzard soaring high above us and I took a picture even though I knew it would turn out bad, but it was OK for using the pattern under the wing for ID purpose.
There was hundreds of Jackdaws on the mountain side and it is amazing to see them form the huge groups, almost like starlings.

We left the mountains and we drove to the Evretou Dam where we will have our picnic lunch. We were very hungry and I asked my Guide to stop at a Bakery. We are in the middle of nowhere but he told me that we would pass one bakery on the way to the Evretou Dam (Φράγμα Ευρέτου).
The bakery turned out to be a small Supermarket. So while they did the sandwiches I shopped for onions and a dish washing sponge. Very helpful and nice staff at the place and we were really in a good mood when we left.
We reached the dam a little after 11 o'clock and we drove down to the water. There was plenty people fishing around the dam. Sunday and people are free, well, Wuhan epidemic and many people are not working.
We enjoyed our sandwiches and they were still warm. We had fresh orange juice as well and it tasted very good. Mot many birds to see, but there was wagtails looking for food in the water.
There was 6 Barn Swallows hunting over the water and I am not sure if they caught food or was drinking water. But they went in to the water several time while we were watching them. So maybe they were catching food.
Long-legged Buzzard
We spotted one more Long-legged Buzzard and it was landing a few hundred meters away from us. Too far away for any good pictures. We finished our picnic and we continued along the dam and we drove for long as we could before we turned back.
We did not see many birds and we had expected a lot of birds but maybe all the people fishing along the dam side scared away the birds.

We left Evretou Dam (Φράγμα Ευρέτου) to drive to the Pano Erodes and we pass a lemon orchard and I ask my Guide to stop so I could get some lemons. I was looking for lemon juice at the Supermarket yesterday. Found nothing and I need lemon for my “TUNA & ONION SURPRISE” ®.

I brought the lemon in to the car and it started to smell so good. Fresh lemon and the smell was very strong and I was looking forward to my “TUNA & ONION SURPRISE” ® tonight.
We continued towards Pano Erodes Sanctuary and we drove out on a gravel road through the area. We spotted one Stonechat and the bird was fresh from the bath.

Not many birds to be seen and we were soon back on the big road driving back for about 100 meters before we turned right down towards the valley
We reach the beautiful valley and suddenly we see 2 Chuckars down at the small stream. This is the bird I never manage to get on picture. It is a very shy bird and there is a lot of the birds and we see several of them every day. But no pictures.
We park the car and we start walking down the valley. Again, we see alot of Jackdaws and we spotted two Eurasian Wren and they moved very quickly so pictures was impossible to get.
OK, it was now were windy and cold and the sky was turning black so I did not put much energy in to getting any pictures of the wrens.

It was very nice to get back in to the warm car. We had a few drops of rain so it was in the nick of time. Time had turned quick and it was time to get back home to Pophos.
We will stop at one place on the way, the Minthis Hills Golf Course. Getting out of the car at Minthis Hills Golf Course and it was gloom and grey for long as I could see.
Strong wind and cold so we decided to leave. It was too cold to enjoy the birding and we called it a day. And it started to rain when we were back at the car.

Back home and I got right on with the onion chopping. I had the lemons and oregano. And I poured olives and a few cans of a corn, paprika and green peas in the bowl as well.
I realised that I had made a mistake with the lemons. Buy a lemon in the supermarket and I need one lemon for a fish finger.
These fresh lemons was very strong and it tasted a wee bit too much of the lemon. But it was tasty and I enjoyed my evening “TUNA & ONION SURPRISE” ®
