Saturday 4th of August 2018 and I left the Schleusenhotel GmbH and Brunsbüttel behind early morning. It was a few minutes to the ferry crossing and I was there 20 minutes after 6 o´clock in the morning. I expect a few hours to the Bootsmann - Lokal Camping & Lodge in Albersdorf outside Breiholz where I will spend the night.
A few hours on the saddle, well, it started good and it might be because of all the medical equipment I bought yesterday. We will see how it ends.
Crossing the canal and I left the ferry behind and I was soon lost. I ended up on a big road and I turned back and I paddled along the Kiel Canal towards the next ferry where I will cross the Kiel Canal again. Early morning and I was alone in the bike track

Not many cars on board

A locked gate across the bike track and I was not happy
I follow the canal towards the Ostermoor ferry as per the map from “Die Mecklenburger Radtour GmbH” Suddenly, there is a gate across the bike track, some kind of factory and a jetty with some small boats. I try to open the gate but I have to go back, and I was not happy. Back at the ferry terminal and I turn left and then right and I follow a road passing some big factories.
Follow the direction of the Kiel Canal and there is soon a sign with a ferry and I turn left. A few minutes later and I´m at the Ostermoor ferry. I was soon on the ferry and as there were some big ships passing in the Kiel Canal we had to wait for a few minutes before we could start the cruise across the canal.

I get off the ferry and I start paddling towards north and the Bootsmann - Lokal Camping & Lodge in Albersdorf where I will spend the night. Honestly, it was a boring stretch of the canal and my behind have been better. It was hot and there wasn´t really much to look at. There was a few ship when I started paddling towards the north.
Of course, no sign of any bike shop selling saddle pillows. And my behind was aching so when I reached the Burg ferry I stopped to sit down looking at the ferry. Well, not very much else to do and I decided to take a tour to make a video.
One trip on the boat and one video from shore. I stepped on board the ferry. Everything to stretch the time I´m off the saddle to rest my behind.
Passing under a bridge
Ships in the Kiel Canal
Reaching the Burg ferry
On board and time to leave
It was nice to spend some time off the saddle traveling back and forth and now I have had enough of ferry action for one day and I continued north towards Breiholz and the pilot station. I have planned to, well, I was hoping to see some pilot action so I can make a video. But the stretch from Burg wasn’t much more exciting than the track going to Burg.
It was really hot, not a bird to be seen so no excuses to stop, well, I can always stop to have a sip from my bottle of Diet Pepsi. I paddled and paddled and it didn´t seem like I was going anywhere. I was counting the bridges I was passing. I don´t know if it helped very much. Lucky to have the trip meter on the handle bar or I would not have been able to note the difference.
Another bridge
No end in sight, hell, not even the Kiel Canal in sight
No end in sight, just to paddle on and on
A tourist steamer passing on the canal
My arse was aching, believe me, I would have given anything for a bean bag under my behind. But to give up here in the middle of nowhere wasn´t any option. I saw a tourist steamer passing on the canal, coming form Brunsbüttel most likely bound for Kiel. I never heard of the boat before and they might have stared a summer route for the tourists. And what if the boat stops in Rendsburg?
I can take to boat from Rendsburg to Kiel! I will be on the bike tomorrow, and the only thing making me do the bike thing tomorrow is the pilot station on Breiholz. And then Rendsburg, and I have already made up my mind, last day and I will go by train to Kiel from Rendsburg. But what if I can go with the steamer, would be perfect!
A dead snake
Fischerhütte
I reached the ferry at Fischerhütte and no sign of any refreshments for sale. But I saw something across the canal and I crossed the canal with the Fischerhütte ferry. There was an old ferry used as a monument on the lawn and some kind of cafe next to it. I asked for an ice cream and the old lady pointed and mumbled something. Well, I left again and I crossed the canal again.
So where to get a taxi? I left the Kiel Canal behind paddling along the road towards a village. I couple was sitting in a garden and I stopped to ask if there was any taxi available in the village. They went to call and they came back with no good news.
Ther eis a huge HEAVY METAL festival in the area and all the taxis are busy, this is also the reason for me to stay at the Bootsmann - Lokal Camping & Lodge and is it full of black dressed people all over the place. But not here so I can stay at the Bootsmann.
Dear Aladdin,
your tour is almost confirmed, but we are not able to get a room for you in Albersdorf region because of a big festival.
We could instead book an extra night in Rendsburg. You would then have a ca. 65km tour from Brunsbüttel to Rendsburg.
Would that be possible for you?
Best regards, Jaana
Anyway, no taxi available and the guy offered to take me. He took off with his car and he was soon back with his car and a trailer connected to the car. While he was gone his wife showed me Barn Swallow nests in their garage and they had put net under the nests to prevent cats and other animals to come to disturb the swallows.

This was great, took us about 30 minutes to reach Bootsmann - Lokal Camping & Lodge and I gave the kind man 50€ and he said it was too much
- Worth every cent! I said
I checked in and the restaurant wasn´t a restaurant, only cake and tea. I had some tea and blueberry pie and a bucket of whipped cream before I went to my room. What a disappointment the room was, it was nice but very small. Hardly any space for my luggage.
But it was nice to sit down, only place to sit down was in the bed and as there was no desk I went out to get a table from the terrace to my room. Now there was no space at all.
Anyway, it was better than having to sit on the saddle. Tomorrow is kind of a short trip and if we click HERE we will find out if I make it all the way without having to take any taxi.
OK, it has come to my knowledge that we have senior citizens visiting my web page. How hard can it be? So it's not very easy for them to see the blue coloured links to the next page.
