Flying to South America with All Nippon Airways and Copa Airlines

Friday 30th of January 2026 and I booked a GRAB car yesterday. The car will be here at 6 o'clock and I had time for tea before I left for Suvarnabhumi International.

The GRAB car was waiting for me when I came down and we took off a couple of minutes before 6 o'clock and my bird watching adventure in South America can start.

Flying to South America with All Nippon Airways and Copa Airlines
On my way to Suvarnabhumi International

Takes about 30 minutes to get to Suvarnabhumi International and we stop at GATE 6, All Nippon Airways have their check-in at GATE 6 as per the sign on the curb side. I get my bags and I enter the terminal.

Early morning but there are a lot of passengers leaving Thailand. ANA's check-in have quite a few passengers lined up to check-in.

But it went quite smooth and I was soon on my way to the security and immigration, and this went quite smooth as well. Way quicker than expected, FAST TRACK and there was a lot of people lining up to pass the security.

Suvarnabhumi International Airport
All Nippon Airways check-in

My flight departs from Gate E6 and it is close to one of Thai Airways Lounge. So, I stopped at the lounge to have some soda water. And I have to give Thai Airways one big +

I went inside to check-in to the lounge handing them my boarding pass.
“You have to go to the other side, this is for people paying for lounge access”
“Which lounge is best?”
“The business class lounge”
“Great! Thank you”

I walked across the walkway to enter Thai Airways lounge, only business passengers. I really do not like when the lounge is full of all kind of people. You are scared to end up on a full flight, and when you board you find yourself alone in biz.

Suvarnabhumi International Airport
Egg and bacon for breakfast

I discovered that they had egg and bacon for breakfast. And they had fried potatoes as well and Egg and bacon in Thai Airways loungeit was actually very good, surprisingly good. I also had some ice cream, not very good for my blood sugar.

I spent an hour in the lounge before walking to gate E6 to board my flight, first stop Haneda, Tokyo and I will have to spend several hours waiting for my flight to New York.

There were plenty people at the gate and they had started to line up waiting to board. I found a seat and I sat down to relax and I could board ANA flight NH 848 to Tokyo.

It was a very comfy seat and I was asleep a few seconds after having fastened my seat belt. I Kamikazewas dead tired after having woke up at 3 o'clock in the morning with a terrible cramp in my left leg.

And I was drained from all energy, no power at all. So, I was a sleep in the chair and I woke up when we were pulled out from the jet bridge. I Kamikazealmost shat my pants as Suvarnabhumi Airport passed outside the window.

I don't know why, but I thought that we were in the air and that we were about to crash. But I was quickly realising what was going on and I was soon asleep again.

I started the FLIGHT MAP when I woke up and it was 90 minutes to go to Tokyo.

I asked for a cup of tea, and I asked if they had the big tea cups. Instant disappointment, they only had small coffee cups.

It took like ages before I got my tea. ANA claim to be a 5-star airline, well, I do not know. I don't even understand what a 5-star airline is. Singapore Airline is also claiming to be a 5-star airline. It is the same food and seats.

This is what I get after having waited for a very long time

Well, one of the Stewards was wearing the WEF Agenda 2030 ring on his uniform I asked him WEF Agenda 2030what it was. He told me that it was a partner to the airline
“Sweet Lord! Now I cannot fly with ANA again”

He avoided me for the rest of the flight. The tea was bad, but the WEF pin was making me sick and I will avoid ANA in the future.

Getting off the plane in Haneda International and it was about 6 hours to go before it is time to board flight NH 160 to New York. I remember Haneda different, I had been looking forward to go shopping. I need a drug store, but here was nothing. No restaurants or shops, well, one TAX FREE after the security.

I found one drug store and I bought some stuff to keep me healthy during the rest of the trip.

5 hours to go and I decided to spend some time in the lounge, LO AND BEHOLD, they had Pepsi Zero in the lounge.

The food was very good and I had some pork dumplings and chicken stir fried in honey mustard. I was dead tired and I could hardly stay awake the last 2 hours.

Boarding ANA flight NH 160 and I was confused, every second row was facing backwards, this is the first time I see this on an airplane. I had a traditional seat facing forward.

We took off and I was soon asleep waking up about 6 hours before arrival to New York. We had passed the DATE LINE so it was still 30th of January when we landed in New York in the evening. JFK Terminal 7 and Copa Airlines flight CM 807 departs from Terminal 4

JFK International and it was not easy to find any information, but I asked around and I found the Yet another Smiley on www.aladdin.sttrain station. Involving me getting out in the snow for 100 meters to get to the train station.

Epstein

I have to wait for about 10 minutes before the train arrives and it takes a few minutes to reach Terminal 4. Of course, Copa Airlines are at ROW 9, the last row and I had to trot all the way through the terminal.

My checked-in luggage had to be collected and checked-in again. JFK Terminal 4 and there were security rows for long as I could see. But only one was open so it took quite some time before I was passed through the security.

I find GATE 2A and I take a seat waiting for the boarding to start. I buy one juice and a bottle with something smoothie like. I enjoyed my drinks while checking in to Copa Airlines flight CM 125 from Panama City to Montevideo.

Saturday 31st of January 2026
and we start boarding after midnight and it seems like the flight is full. Arriving to Panama City around 7 o'clock in the morning and from there it is another 7 hours to Montevideo.

I can't wait to arrive to my hotel for a hot shower and some sleep. I am dead tired after having been on the go for almost two days and I am delirious by anticipation for a bed and a hot shower.

I find my seat and even though I am dead tired it is impossible to fall asleep. Of course, I felt asleep an hour before touch-down at Tocumen International Airport in Panama. Not enough!

Arriving to Terminal 1 and I went down to the Immigration at Terminal 1. The Immigration Officer asked where I came from. I showed my boarding pass and he told me that my luggage was arriving at Terminal 2.

On the go for almost 2 days, no proper sleep, a cut in my left foot. (Way better now since I was at the Doctor) Pain in my knee and now I have to get back up the stairs and I had to walk for several kilometres until the end of the terminal.

I stopped one of them golf carts and he did not decline me, so he took me the last few hundred meters to the luggage claim at Terminal 2.

Sweet Lord! The invalido cart was the best thing since I left home. I will request this from now on. They have SPECIAL SERVICE when booking and I will try to add an “INVALIDO CART” from now on when I book tickets.

Passing the immigration and the Immigration Officer calls me.
“HELLO!! REMEMBER ME?”

It was the same guy that had escorted our 2nd Officer from India when we signed off here a few days ago. And in New York, I was walking to the train station in my summer uniform and one guy came up behind me.
“ALADDIN! It is not healthy to walk around like that in the snow”

I recognised the guy, but I cannot remember from where.

I picked up my bag and I went to the departure hall to check-in to the 7 hours nightmare flight CM 125 to Montevideo. Biz is full so I will have to sit in the back.

I am hungry and thirsty so I go to the Copa Club after immigration and security. What a set-back this Copa Club turned out to be.

Copa Club

I was still hungry when I left Copa Club and I will look for a place to buy a sandwich before boarding flight CM 125 to Montevideo. I took a chance and I went to the place where I bought the Diet Pepsi last week, maybe they have sandwiches.

I took a can of diet drink and I went to the cashier, now I see that they have a proper menu. I put back the diet drink in the fridge. I ordered a cup of tea and a hamburger.

The tea was gone when the cold hamburger was delivered. I pointed at the cheese
“This is supposed to be melted”
“I will tell them”

And they charged me 20 $ for the disater they called a hamburger. No shame! I would have been ashamed to serve something like this. I left for GATE 220 for Copa Airlines fligh CM 125 to Montevideo.

I had an aisle seat so this was good, the flight was completely full. I was happy to be in the boarding group 1 with my STAR ALLIANCE Gold member ship. So, I was among the first to board and I had space for my luggage in the overhead bin.

Seven hours to Montevideo from Panama City, seven hours of suffering. The suffering was alleviated when I discovered how to lift the arm rests in the aisle.

The first hours were the worst, but the last three hours where kind of OK. Time turned kind of fast and on to of that, we expect to land 20 minutes before scheduled time.

Sweet Lord, it was nice to get off the flight. 48 hours of flying and I was almost starting to cry just thinking about a hot shower and a bed. I was limping along to the immigration and when I was stumbling up to the line.

One guy started to scream at the people in line and I do not understand Spanish. But it must have been something like: LET PORKY THE INVALIDO PASS FIRST!

They all moved to let me through, embarrassing and I told them never mind, no problem. (Using the internationally recognised hand signs for never mind, no problem) But they would have no one of it and I was through the automated immigration in 2 minutes.

I like this automated immigration, no need to fill up my passport with stamps. I was in a very good mood, my driver is waiting, a pre-paid service. And I will soon be in my room.

Carrasco/General Cesáreo L. Berisso International Airport
Someone waving a sign inside the green and white taxi

The pre-paid service was a disappointment. I usually book a car to the hotel, have been very convenient up until now. Coming to a foreign country and no need to look around for transportation. They pick you up after custom and you are on the way.

Seriously, it would have been easier to take a normal taxi.

I am old enough to remember traveling before the internet. You had an appointment and you met without having to go through several annoying messages.

Arriving and there was the driver waiting for you and you are soon on the way to your hotel.

Here it was different, no one waiting and I was soon bombarded with messages. (In Swedish) Auto translate so it really made no sense
“I am training at the airport”
“Call me when you land”
“I will arrive in a green and white car”
“I don’t understand, Spanish only”

After 48 hours in an airplane, you really do not need all this BS. Just the convenience of being whiskered to the hotel.

Call me when you land, just what I needed. There was a long line of new airport taxis, brand new and proper sized. I went out to have a look.

One green and white taxi arrives and park 50 meters away. An old taxi looking to be too small for even having a dog in the car. I see one gay sitting in the car waving the “will be waiting with a sign displaying your name”

Of course, impossible to see what it was saying on the sign
1-star

I was soon giving up the idea to stop to buy milk, the driver did not speak one single word of English. Checking-in to Hampton By Hilton Montevideo Carrasco and I had a steak and tea in the restaurant and they arranged a pack of milk for me as well. Good, now I can have tea in my room tomorrow morning.

There had really not been any tea for the last 48 hours, flying long haul with Singapore Airlines and Thai Airways there is a FREE FLOW of tea coming to my seat. ANA, not again!

The food was good, and the service was super! Both in the reception and in the restaurant. I must admit, I was grumpy arriving, but I was in a really good mood after a few minutes with the staff at Hampton By Hilton Montevideo Carrasco.
