Blue Mountains day tour

Blue Mountains Deluxe Tour Itinerary

No trip to Sydney is complete without a visit to the magical Blue Mountains. Our Blue Mountains Deluxe Tour offers breath-taking views, dazzling waterfalls, wonderful Australian Wildlife and the world famous Three Sisters.

We start our day with a visit to see some of our native wildlife at the Featherdale Wildlife Park. Here you can cuddle up and have your photo taken with a Koala, hand feed Kangaroos and see Wombats, Dingoes and little Penguins. Australia's wildlife is so diverse and a joy to witness here at Featherdale.

At Echo Point you will enjoy splendid views of the amazing Jamieson Valley and the Three Sisters. This magical towering rock formation is a wondrous site to be seen and you will revel in the Aboriginal Dreamtime stories about this location and the Three Sisters themselves.

One of the highlights of this trip is a visit to Scenic World - the home to the steepest Railway in the world. Ride the Scenic Railway down in to the valley if you dare and glide out of the valley on the Cableway, enjoying amazing views of the Jamieson Valley. And to complete your Scenic World visit take a ride 370 meters above the mountain chasm on the Skyway (all three rides at Scenic World are included in the tour price).

Blue Mountains

Tuesday 9th of August 2016 and they never called from the reception. I had asked for a 6 o'clock wake-up call. Lucky enough, I had set my own alarm to go off at 6 and quarter past 6. They will come to pick me up at 07:35 for the Blue Mountains Deluxe Tour.

I opened the curtains and I took a picture from my window. I can see the bridge whatever they call the bridge and the opera house. I turned on the kettle and I made my self some Earl Grey tea. And I enjoyed the tea with the view from my window

The Driver came to pick me up outside the hotel, he had parked behind the hotel. There was some passengers on board and we would go to pick up more passengers before taking off to the Blue Blue Mountains day tourMountains for a day full of adventure.

There was only one empty seat in the bus Blue Mountains day tourwhen we left Sydney and that was the seat next to me. So I was happy! First stop on the way to Blue Mountains is the Featherdale Wildlife Park and hour or so away.

I was Yet another Smiley on www.aladdin.st hoping to run in to a “attack” koala for some petting at the Featherdale Wildlife Park.

Noisy miner, Manorina melanocephala

Well, the Featherdale Wildlife Park was like a prison, and no koalas to pet so I left the place and I spent the time on the parking lot looking for birds. There were Noisy miners flying around on the Blue Mountains day tourparking lot and I got a few pictures of the bird.

We were told that the Blue Mountains for just blue because of the haze over the mountains. We were also told that some of the haze was vaporised eucalypts oil from the tress.

And we also learned that they have tried to take eucalypts gum tress to California.

The have planted the trees an s a barrier to prevent fires to spread in the forests in California. But, and this is a big BUT!

The eucalypts tree is full of eucalypts oil and it is like putting gasoline on fire. So this plan failed big time. Blue Mountains is covered in eucalypts trees, but I think it is an eucalypts that the
Leura

(postcode: 2780) is a suburb in the City of Blue Mountains local government area that is located 100 kilometres west of the Sydney central business district in New South Wales, Australia. It is one of the series of small towns stretched along the Main Western railway line and Great Western Highway that bisects the Blue Mountains National Park. Leura is situated adjacent to Katoomba, the largest centre in the upper mountains, and the two towns merge along Leura's western edge.
koala doesn’t like. But I'm not sure about that.

We drive along the railway over the Blue Mountain ridge so there was not much space and they had to build the railway and road close to each other. We passed train stations and I liked the old and beautiful buildings. Those times I was awake I saw beautiful views from my window. But I was sleeping for much of the time.

We will stop in Leura for lunch and they had booked a table at one of the restaurants. We were told by the driver that we had to try a meat pie while in Leura.

There were plenty tour buses in the town as this was a stop on the way to the Scenic Park. I skipped the restaurant and I walked up the main street looking for birds. But as our Driver/ Guide had told me that Leura was famous for the meat pies I wanted to try one.

Meat pie, wått's dö madderfakking diil? It was like beef stew in pie dough. Well, I have tried one and no need to do that again. There was not many birds in the town. The main road was lined with cherry tree but it is winter there were no leafs

But I can imagine the beauty during the cherry blossom in the spring time. We left after an hour and we made a quick stop outside Leura on the way to the Echo Point to visit a look out.

We reached the Echo Point and we spent 20 minutes there before we took off to the cable car station. The cable car station is located at the Echo Point and we will take a cable car over to the Scenic WorldScenic world..

We got a wrist band and this will be used at the tickets for the three attractions in the area. First the Scenic Skyway to reach the Scenic World. Then the Scenic Railway and the Scenic Walkway to the Scenic Cableway back up again. This is how I did it, there were people doing it the other way around. Anyway, we took the bus to the cable car station.

Our Guide/ Driver will drop us here and we will take the cable car to the Scenic World and he will drive the bus to the Scenic World. We will leave for Sydney from the Scenic World

Scenic World

Scenic Skyway

Glide between cliff tops and gaze at the rainforest canopy through the glass floor of the Scenic Skyway!

Suspended 270 metres above ancient ravines, the Skyway provides a unique thrill as breath taking views are revealed beneath your feet through the electro-glass cabin floor. For the less adventurous, seating and solid flooring is also available!

With 360° views, the 720 metre journey provides the best views of Katoomba Falls, the Three Sisters, and Jamison Valley stretching to the horizon.

Disembark at the Skyway’s east station to access lookouts over the valley along with bush trails to Echo Point.

Scenic Railway

Discover the thrill of a 52 degree incline riding the steepest passenger railway in the world, the Scenic Railway.

Following an award-winning redevelopment in 2013, this unforgettable experience offers glass-roofed carriages with expansive views of the rainforest setting and spectacular Jamison Valley.

Custom designed carriages allow passengers to choose their own adventure like never before, adjusting their seated position up to 20 degrees! Choose an adventurous ‘Cliffhanger’ ride at a steep 64 degree incline, or for those seeking a relaxed journey select the ‘Laid Back’ option. Of course, loyal fans can still ride the ‘Original’ at 52 degrees.

The Railway experience descends 310 metres through a cliff-side tunnel, emerging into ancient rainforest at the Jamison Valley floor. Operating since 1945, the Scenic Railway has thrilled 25 million passengers – this is the fifth generation train to ride the tracks since the Hammon family opened the attraction.

Carrying 84 passengers, the train departs every ten minutes. Disembark at the bottom station to access the Scenic Walkway and stroll through 2.4 kilometres of Jurassic rainforest.

The term ‘Scenic Railway’ was first used in the late 19th century in reference to amusement rides at English seaside funfairs. Consisting of simple carriages on rails, passengers passed a series of exotic ‘scenic’ backdrops such as the Swiss Alps or Egyptian pyramids.

Scenic Walkway

Discover the tranquillity of ancient rainforest – or simply tire the kids out – strolling along our 2.4 kilometre Scenic Walkway.

Brilliant in sunshine and even better in the rain, this elevated boardwalk immerses visitors in Jurassic rainforest on the Jamison Valley floor with minimal impact on the environment.

Along the way, explore elements of the site’s coal mining history including the mine entrance, a replica miners’ hut and scale bronze sculpture of a miner and his pit pony.

Learn about local flora, listen for the native lyre bird or taste pure Blue Mountains water straight from Marrangaroo Spring. Enjoy a peaceful moment in the open-air Rainforest Room, or on rest benches located along the route.

Options for various walks taking ten minutes or a full hour are clearly signposted, along with the wheelchair accessible link between the bottom Cableway and Railway stations.

IN THE WET

Experiencing the Walkway in the rain is magical; colours change, mist shrouds the towering cliffs above, hidden waterfalls murmur, raindrops cling to leaves and native birds become more vocal.

Protected by the rainforest canopy, the Walkway has its own microclimate which can be quite distinct from the weather at the top of the escarpment. We recommend the rainforest in the rain – don’t let a little weather stop you!

Scenic Cableway

Discover panoramic views of the World Heritage-listed Blue Mountains from the Scenic Cableway.

The 510 metre journey gently descends into the Jamison Valley and also returns visitors to the top of the escarpment. The Cableway’s fully enclosed cabin provides a unique vantage point for viewing the Three Sisters, Orphan Rock, Mt Solitary and Katoomba Falls.

Disembark at the bottom station to access the Scenic Walkway and stroll through 2.4 kilometres of Jurassic rainforest.

Wheelchair accessible with a capacity for 84 passengers, the Cableway is the steepest and largest aerial cable car in the Southern Hemisphere.

Arriving to the Scenic World

We arrived to the Scenic world and we met inside the Scenic Cableway station. My group took off to take the Scenic Cableway down to the Scenic Walkway through the rainforest and back up with the Scenic Railway. I was still not sure if I wanted to go. Our Guide/ Driver suggested that I should go have a look at the Scenic Railway.

I did and I decided to go down with the train, take the Scenic walkway to the Scenic Cableway to check it out. If I liked the Scenic Cableway I would take it back up. Or I would return to the Scenic Railway and return back up with the train. The train looked OK and I decided to go.

There was people waiting so I didn't made it with the first train. I had to wait for about 10 minutes before I could get on a train and we were soon on our way again.

Well, as no surprise we had to wait for 20 minutes for the last passengers before we could take of. It had been like this at every stop. Grownups that don't know the time. And on top of that they don't understand that we're on a schedule to catch the boat in Sydney, amazing! I told the driver that we should just leave.
- They are older than 18!
- Yeah, we might have to do that, the driver said

I got an angry glimpse from a girl in the front row. I was about to flip her the bird, but, well, we are on a nice day tour. Finally, the last passengers came and it was the three girls from Hong Scooby DooKong. Yeah, it is charming with some youthful carelessness, but not when we have to catch a boat. And to make things worse, we ran in to some heavy traffic on the highway back to Sydney.

The Parramatta River Cruise departs from Homebush Bay and we can get off at Darling Harbour or at the Circular Quay. My upcoming whale watches here in Sydney will depart from either Darling Harbour or Circular Quay so I will get a chance to check this places out when we get there with the “cruise ship” later on tonight. Yeah, this promise to get exciting

The “cruise ship” waiting for us in Homebush Bay

We made it in time to the cruise ship in time. I think that they were waiting for us. People that cannot come back in time and the traffic jam on top of that. 20 minutes waiting for the girls, thank you, that is 20 minutes that I will never get back.

Anyway, we got out of the bus and our Driver/ Guide handed out tickets to the boat and we said good bye. I stepped on board and the bench in the front was of course full. I went back to look for the bathroom and when I was ready there I went back forward again.

We were taking off towards Sydney but it was soon very dark and it was not easy to take any pictures. And on top of that it was a wee bit nippy up front.

We had been on the way, well, it was too dark already at departure and the movement of the boat does it unnecessary to wish for any good pictures.

Getting off the boat in Darling Harbour

We arrived to Darling Harbour and I went to look for a taxi. I was lucky, there was a taxi passing by and he stopped for me. We were soon on our way to Sydney Boulevard Hotel. I had planned to have my dinner at the Japanese place next to the hotel. And I was hungry so I was really looking forward to the avocado & salmon salad and the teriyaki stuff.

Well, the kitchen was closed, major disappointment. I went next door at a Brazilian Churrasco place. I was not allowed to sit where I wanted. They only h ad long tables and she seated me next to another group of people. Well, needless to say, I left.

I went back to the hotel restaurant and I had smoked salmon and avocado. 2 plates and a vegetarian lasagne with a pot of tea before returning to my room. Well, yet another beautiful day here in Australia have come to an end. It had been a great day, well, except for the prison they call Featherdale Wildlife Park

But tomorrow it will be a real wildlife tour. Something like “Wait a while - Rainforest” in Cairns. Boutique ToursThey will come from Boutique Tours and we will take off on their Boutique Wildlife Tours. Pick up time at 11:45 but my alarm will go off at 7 o'clock.

Today’s Blue Mountains tour was also booked with the Boutique Tours, but they cancelled the tour when I was on Phillip Island. I was of course not happy, but this company we used today was very good. Well, I had have a very good day and I was also happy with my new BlackRapid RS-7 Curve Camera Strap.

It have been very comfy to carry my camera and a full day with the original Canon strap would have given me pain in the neck. Anyway, new adventures tomorrow and you just need to click HERE
