Swimming with humpback whales on Tonga
Swimming with humpback whales on Tonga

Friday 6th of October 2017 and up at 5 as every morning. I drink tea and eat oatmeal in my room relaxing until 6 thirty when I go talk with the other guests killing time until quarter to 6. Quarter to 6 and we take off to the marina in Neiafu.

The boat arrived and we were soon on our way to look for Humpback whales. We didn't have to wait for long before we could snorkel with the first whale, a mother and the baby. And they were sleeping so they came up to the surface very slowly. And it was beautiful to watch them coming up to breath on the surface.

At first I thought the big whale came up with open mouth, but when they came closer I could see that it was the baby at the mother's head.

What a good start of the day this was. The rest of the day and we came up with nothing. We had been driving around all day and after lunch we went to look for a singing male Humpback whale. We had heard about the whale from the other boats on the radio. So we went to check it out. This would be a perfect “finale” of the day. And we were quite excited while waiting for the boats ahead of us to get ready so we could get in to the water.

What an beautiful experience, this was an amazing experience. The video isn't much, but to snorkel above the male Humpback whale listening to his song was just breath taking. I could feel the sound waves in to my bones. We got two swim with the whales before he disappeared and when we were on our way back to Neiafu and the van I just knew that I had experienced something not everyone have experienced, fantastic!

I had my alarm set to go off at 5 o'clock tomorrow morning and you just need to click HERE to find out if we have any luck with the Humpback whales.
