Tuesday 27th of June 2017 and I was outside the hotel a few minutes before 6 and my driver was already there waiting. We loaded my stuff in the back of the car. I brought a bottle of MAX with me to the back seat.
I had have my tea and oatmeal in the room so I will not need anything for a long time. If we pass a nice restaurant we will stop for some lunch. We have 8 hours until the boat leaves the Kuala Besut jetty, and the ride is 6 hours. So we have plenty time, maybe even stop if we see an interesting bird on the way.
We left kuala Lumpur just after 6 o'clock and the traffic was very light so it didn't take us long to reach the highway. I asked the driver how far it was and she said 300km.
- This cannot be right? I said
6 hours on the high way, we would only make about 50km/h. And the highway wa snice and no traffic. I asked her for how long there was a highway
- For 4 hours
- Well, then 300km is not the correct distance, I said
Leaving Kuala Lumpur
We're on the highway

Crossing a river
We left the highway to fill up gas in the car. So far and we had not seen any sign of any “fine dining” on our way. I was getting a wwe bit hungry. And the gas stop didn't had anything to offer. Well, I could change 600 Ringits and I got all the 100 Ringit bills they had. Helped a little but still not possible to close my valet.
We continued towards Kuala Besut and I was starting to wonder how long it really was to Kuala Besut. It was soon 12 o'clock and no sign of us approaching Kuala Besut. And my driver started to pull out figures from the hat. Using the GPS on the phone and when we came to a three way intersection she pulled over to the lane using when you turn right.
- We have to turn left, I said.
She looked at her phone and she told me that it was the same. Yeah, like they build a three way intersection just for the fun of it. She crossed all the lanes and turned left. A wise decision. I told her that I didn't had a phone, never driving in Malaysia and my profession wasn't to drive a car. I cannot read Malaysian language and road signs, and I have to show you where to go!
We have had a few “very” near misses, but I didn't got angry until she was about to run in to a car full speed in an intersection while she was playing with her phone. I exploded in the back seat. I could not believe my eyes.
- DON'T TOUCH THE DUCKING PHONE!
- I just try to reconnect to the internet
- I don't need a ducking phone to find my way!
Seriously, since we got this “smart” phone it is like people have turned in to retards. And not able to tell me when we arrive. 6 hours passed a long time ago and now I was getting worried about the boat to Pulau Perhentian Kecil/ Perhentian Island. She started about the traffic and it took long time. Every time the same, blame the traffic, per automatic, no thinking. Just say traffic.
- WHAT TRAFFIC? WE HAVE NOT SEEN A CAR SINCE WE LEFT KUALA LUMPUR!
Always the traffic, well, not the driver on Bali.
- 25 minutes to go, he said
After 45 minutes I asked when we would arrive.
- 1 to 1 and a half hour
Yes, I exploded in the back seat. And it didn't became better when he blamed it on having kept an eye out for a e-cigarette shop for me.
No need for any phone
Holiday is over and people returning to Kuala Lumpur
We find BuBu Long Beach Resort office
No fine dining in Kuala Besut - But they have a 7 Eleven
It took us almost 8 hours to get to Kuala Besut jetty. I was hungry and I asked the girl at BuBu Long Beach Resort office for some restaurants. She tell\me that there are restaurants on the other side of the road.
- Are they nice and clean? I asked
I crossed the road and the restaurants were, well, I found a 7 Eleven and I bought a bottle of water and chocolate bread that I ate at BuBu Long Beach Resort office. I interrogated the staff. I was getting a wee bit worried about the restaurant at BuBu Long Beach Resort.
They came to pick our luggage, it was me and maybe 10 more passengers going to the BuBu Long Beach Resort on the Pulau Perhentian Kecil/ Perhentian Island. We walked down to the jetty and we boarded the boat. All the luggage in the back and when we were about to leave there was another family joining. They were going to another resort as I think they had missed the boat.
I said Bye-bye to my driver and she will be here on Friday morning at 9 o'clock to pick me up again. Then we're going to Genting highlands for some bird watching adventure. And she was lucky, when we arrived she was asked if she could take people to the airport, so she will make more money. Good!

Finally at BuBu Long Beach Resort - Time for a MAX before I go try my underwater camera
Duu Thoomaaas... Nu jävlar sk d festas
I rip open a MAX as soon as my boxes arrives to the room. I prepare my underwater equipment and I go for a practise swim. My room is OK, but it was not worth the almost 300 US per night. But they have AC and internet on the room. The only place I have found on Perhentian Island when booking. So it is OO. And as we had the debacle with the snorkelling boat they threw in the transfers for free.
Well, I'm off to the beach to try my camera and the water was beautiful and the whole place looks nice. So I will enjoy myself here.

My alarm is set to go off at 5 tomorrow morning. The snorkelling boat will be here at 10 and my plan is to start the day with oatmeal and then go to look for some birds. Click HERE for some Perhentian Island snorkelling and birding adventure. Will I see any sharks and turtles?
OK, it has come to my knowledge that we have senior citizens visiting my web page. How hard can it be? So it's not very easy for them to see the blue coloured links to the next page.
