Monday 26th of June 2017 and my alarm went off at 5 o'clock. I was in no hurry as we don't have any good light for birding until 7 or 7 thirty. So I had plenty time for tea and oatmeal in my room. I left my room quarter past 7 and I was soon in a taxi on my way to Perdana Botanical Garden. Today we're going to the gate in the NE Corner.
The taxi driver stopped the meter when we approached, it was 11 RM and he told me 15 when we stopped. Well, I really don't have the energy to start any trouble. I just wanted to get out to go look for birds. And taxi is very cheap in Kuala Lumpur.
When you enter you take the path to the right as the gate to the Orchid Park is closed, I think they open at 8. I walked down the hill passing another water fall. The weather was really leaving a lot to wish for and annoying drizzle and my glasses was foggy and I could hardly see anything. Walking down the hill and I remembered my ANTI-FOG spray in my bag. I bought it for my snorkelling mask and I was wondering why I had not used it on my glasses.

Walking on the purple line on the map following the signs towards Orchid Park takes you on the edge of the park and you're soon out of the park on top of the hill. I was surprised as I had expected to end up in the orchid park. This route is to be avoided if you want to stay in the park as the right hand side is fenced and you cannot leave the path.
You need to get out of the park to reach the entrance to the fenced area, I think it is a historic building. There are also other museums in this area and Kuala Lumpur aviary.
Kuala Lumpur aviary
Walking back down the hill again and I decided to go have a look at the Oasis Garden. I was going to look for a place to sit down under a roof. And there is a place next to the Oasis Garden, just south of the Oasis Garden and I sat down taking shelter from the drizzle. And of course, roof and the seat was dry.
All the other places are wet, and if you come here during the rain. BE CAREULL!! Many of the walk paths are very slippery and you don't want to fall carrying your expensive camera equipment.
Ayway, this place is perfect, facing bushes with red flowers and after e few minutes of sitting down the birds started to come back to the red flowers. Oriental Magpie Robins in the trees singing beautifully while watching Sunbirds and Fantails in the bushes.
And as in Bangkok, I spotted several bald Mynas and I still don't know why they are going bald. Walking towards the Laman Perdana just next to the Oasis Garden. I spotted some Ibis birds in a tree top I checked internet on my phone and it was Hadada ibis. A bird from Africa and they are supposed to be in Africa only.
I could hear a White-throated Kingfisher and I looked around. I discovered the bird in a tree not far from the Hadada ibis. The bird was high up the tree so it was not possible to get any good picture. But it is good enough as a proof that I had seen the bird.
In the middle of the main gardens, where the three main roads coming from the three entrances meet, there is a square where events and activities were carried out. It is a central area and located close to the boathouse and with ample space, it is a perfect area for gatherings. This is the Laman Perdana.
The rehabilitation efforts have transformed the square into an area for majestic trees. Adansonias and Moringas, planted as mature trees gave quite a surreal feel to the area. One can imagine being transported to the land in Africa where they came from.

Egret Island from the North
Egrets and Herons
I was walking around the area and there is something that looks like a marina. What a shame, no boats. I really wanted to get on a boat to go check out the Egret Island. And what an opportunity this would have been. I risk making a tit out of myself in Bangkok Yes, we can imagine 500kg lard ass on one of those “pedal” swans in Lumpini Park lake. Would of course be embarrassing, but the chances are slim that I would run in to anyone here again.
Would have been lovely to sit under the trees on the Egret Island. But here was no boats for hire, but there was a terrible commotion and I went to investigate. There was a film team from India making a movie and I checked out the work for a few minutes before I went to look for more birds.
I was lucky, I saw 3 Hahada Ibis eating and I got a picture of the bird. I was happy as they were too far away sitting up the tree. I was very happy with my morning bird watching. It started kind of bad with the weather. But the weather improved and we had good weather when I left Perdana Botanical Garden. A beautiful day here in Perdana Botanical Garden and I will for sure be back in Kuala Lumpur to do more bird watching.
And the best thing, even if I don't see any birds I get a good day out of it.
Time to go eat lunch and I was hungry, and thirsty. Now you think I went back to my room for tea and oatmeal. Well, not really, I went to check out the Italian Restaurant and they were closed. So now I went back to my room? NO NO! I went to the restaurant next door. But I walked back to Holiday Inn Express stopping at Family Mart to buy more oatmeal. Now I have so much oatmeal I can hardly get in to my room
I had decided to go back to Taman Tasik Ampang Hilir and give it another try. So I left Holiday Inn Express at 3 o'clock in the afternoon. Will I have better luck in Taman Tasik Ampang Hilir this time? Click HERE to find out. More excitements, just a click away!
