Snorkelling on Bali

Snorkelling on Bali

Wednesday 11th of January 2017 and they knocked on my door at 6 o'clock, well, a few minutes after 6 o'clock. I was full of vim as i had been sleeping since 10 o'clock yesterday evening

I had a shower and then I opened the door to the swimming pool. The guy running the guest house was serving breakfast at the table at the swimming pool and I asked for the menu. 10 minutes later and I had a pot of tea, toast and an omelette in my room.

They were here to pick me up quarter past 7, 15 minutes early, but I was ready so we were soon on our way with my new wet suit and underwater camera gear.

I learned that we had to go to the dive shop first, I thought that we were going straight for the snorkelling action. So the visit to the dive shop was nothing I was happy about.

I had to sign some papers before we took off. We stopped after 5 minutes and we were supposed to get in to a boat taking us to the Nusa Penida, a coral reef 45 minutes with boat from Sanur.

There very plenty people and they boarded a small feeder boat that would take them to a little bigger “power” boat that would take them to the Nusa Penida. My guide told me that we would have to get on this boat and I told him that I was going to go alone on my snorkelling day tours.

My Guide called Blue Season Bali and we returned to the dive shop. Now I was told that I was going in a group and that the “I'm going alone” was that I had to pay single supplement for the room. If I want to go on the snorkelling tours by myself I have to pay extra:
550 000 IR for the Guide
800 000 for the car

And plus, of course the normal price. The boat to Nusa Penida would set me back with 4 million IR. I was not happy, this was a scam and I will never use Blue Season Bali again. So I decided to take the boat to Nusa Penida when I'm back from the bird watching. We took off to Padang Bai, one hour away with car instead.

No time to lose as the most important thing is to get used to my wetsuit and the new camera equipment so I'm ready to swim with the humpback whales on Tonga.

We reached the beach in Pedang Bai and we took our stuff to a small canoe looking boat. We were soon on our way to the snorkelling site. I don't know, maybe 15 minutes later and we stopped. I donned my new wetsuit and snorkelling mask. Finally, to be used for the first time

I had bought anti fog spray for my snorkelling mask when I bought the mask. Of course, I had forgot the spray at home. But my guide had baby shampoo and he used it as anti-fog for the glass. I was ready and I threw myself in to the water. It was kind of deep here but there should be a coral reef on the other side of the boat.

I swam over and I was swimming over a huge area of dead corals. Bleaching due to hot water and the reefs are dying. Same as when I was on the Great Barrier Reefs, where we was it was only very small areas remaining and the rest was dead.

I was snorkelling for 2 to two and a half hour before we returned to Sanur. I spent a few hours on Kuta beach in the late afternoon/ evening before I returned to my guest house in Sanur. I went to bed at 11 and I expect a wake up call at 6 o'clock tomorrow morning. We will go to Tulamben to snorkel around an old wreck.

When we're ready at Tulamben we will drive to Menjangan where I will stay for 3 nights to do 2 days of bird watching. A new snorkelling adventure around the corner and we just need to click HERE to find out what excitements I ran in to.

And this is what I'm training and practicing for, the great Humpback whale adventure
This video is from HumpBackSwims.com and is run through Scuba Diver Life Expeditions.
And this is the company I'm staying with while on Tonga
And look at the little baby go!
I never get tired of watching this video
