Tuesday 19th of May 2026 and I step onboard m/t Maersk Cancun around 11 o'clock. I had to wait on the jetty for the police to complete some documents before I could get onboard. The crew had already started to take onboard my luggage.
Meeting the Chief Officer when I step in to the CCR. The cargo hose is soon connected and they start discharging, 250m3/h is maximum. We have 20000 ton onboard so it will take some time to discharge the soyabean oil.
The messroom is full of “Business people” and the threw themselves over me. Souvenirs? Vape? SMARK WATCH? Babbar machine? Charger?
“Do you have Diet Pepsi?”
I spotted glasses and I had a look, 10 US Dollar and I bought two reading glasses for 10 US$ and I got a good price, half the asking price. Well, 10 $, what to expect?
They brought onboard 4 cases of Diet Pepsi for me in the evening so I was happy, never mind the glasses. This was like a 10 $ tip.

Wednesday 20th of May 2026 and we stop discharging at 7 o'clock. The terminal wants us to change jetty, just to the other side of the basin, 100 meters or so. Pilot is not onboard until 10:36 and we have all fast at the other jetty at 13:06
Port of Alexandria
We resumed discharging at 15:06 and we went down to sweep the first tanks around 10 o'clock in the evening. Next pair of tanks will be tomorrow morning around 8 o'clock.

Thursday 21st of May 2026 and we completed the first tanks for today just before 11 o'clock. The crew have to go down in the tanks to sweep the bottom with squeegee to get all the vegetable oil out of the tanks.
And the first pair of my new glasses felt apart today, no problem, just to keep them together with a paper clip.

Friday 22nd of May 2026 and we completed discharging at 1 o'clock in the afternoon. Pilot, we do not know, but we expect to complete the ballast around 3 o'clock in the afternoon.
Loading Master - My new friend bring baklava for me
Egyptian baklava
I had had a discussion with the Loading Masters and Surveyors onboard. Really nice people, the whole of Egypt have taken a turn for something really nice. I had had a really good time looking for birds here. Everyone had told me that they were sorry to hear that I was going to a shit country like Egypt.
This is what I suspected wise from previous experience from Egypt. But I have grown to love Egypt. All people are very friendly and helpful.
Not one single person had asked for anything since I arrived to the airport. So, I will most likely come back for holiday here in Egypt. Anyway, I told all my new friends that I loved baklava, Turkey and Lebanese baklava. In Persia the baklava is dry and always served with honey.
My new friend brought me a box of Egyptian baklava when he came to complete the paper work after discharging.
We left Alexandria around 5 o'clock in the afternoon and I started with the tank cleaning as soon as I left the bridge.

Saturday 23rd of May 2026 and we completed the first tank cleaning at 5 o'clock in the morning. I went to bed while the crew prepared for the hot water cleaning. We started cleaning after 12 o'clock and this will take around 15 hours to complete.
I inspected the tanks one by one after completion and they look very nice.

Sunday 24th of May 2026 and we completed the hot water wash around 1 o'clock in the morning and all tanks inspected and I was in bed at 4 o'clock in the morning.
We start chemical cleaning of CT 2 + 4 P/S in the afternoon, the tanks look pretty much the same after the chemical cleaning. Some small spots of soya oil behind the ladder down to the tank. But now we have use chemicals and everyone is happy.
Now the tanks are ready to load ULSD, this I said already before the chemical wash.

Monday 25th of May 2026 and I was in bed at 1 o'clock in the morning, we had completed the FW rinse of the tanks. The crew will go down the tanks to take up the last water at 12 o'clock today. They have been up all night stripping the tanks and blowing/ draining the cargo lines.
I am in the CCR at 11 thirty and we enter cargo tank 1 Port 20 minutes past 12 o'clock.

We do 4 tanks before 3 o'clock and decision is made to super strip instead. We start the IG to inert the cargo tanks and I can enjoy a cup of the in my room in the evening.
There has been a lot of birds on deck during the day, but I have not been able to ID any of them when flying by quickly.

Tuesday 26th of May 2026 and coming on the bridge at 6 o'clock in the morning and I had been on the bridge for 15 minute when I spotted the first bird. I ID the bird as a Pallid Swift, but with a little help from eBird and final ID: Common Swift.

Coming on the bridge in the afternoon, we are slow steaming towards Alexandria where we will load ULSD, most likely for Venice in Italy. One Feral Pigeon is landing on the deck crane.
I could see that the bird had one red and one white ring when the bird landed outside the bridge. So, it is most likely a racing pigeon lost on the way back home.

We drop anchor in the evening and no news on when we are coming alongside. But I do not mind staying here for a couple of days, there had not been much done since I joined Maersk Cancun. Only tank cleaning, no time for anytime else.

Wednesday 27th of May 2026 and we are anchored when I come on the bridge at 4 o'clock in the morning. I can report two Pigeons and two gulls in the morning.
In the evening, just as I had given up to see any birds when I spotted two doves in the deck crane at 19 thirty.

Thursday 28th of May 2026 and as usually, I am in the CCR working during lunch, skipping lunch helps me obtaining my V-shaped torso. Pumpy came to the ask me to cut the cake, they could not have cake until I had cut the cake.
“Cake, what is this bullshit? I am on diet”
I had to get to the mess room to cut the cake. I made a cup of tea and I returned to the CCR to enjoy the cake. This was a set-back for my diet, well, once every now and then.

I was surprised to spot 2 Feral Pigeons just after 7 o'clock in the evening. Not very exciting, but better than nothing. Last birds to report to eBird for the month of May 2026.
I left the bridge at 8 o'clock in the evening and I had a glance at a video and I was in bed well before 9 o'clock. Took a wee bit to fall asleep, but I will hopefully be full of vim tomorrow.
