Aladdin's adventure on board M/T Roy Mærsk/ Roy Maersk

Tuesday 1st of November 2016 and we got started with the tank cleaning quarter past 9 in the morning. And we were ready 11 thirty. So we went for lunch and we can continue with other more exciting things in the afternoon.

We started purging and I had to calibrate our gas detector so we have the equipment in good working order when we measure the hydrocarbon in our cargo tanks. Need to be less than 2 VOL% if we are going to load FO after the crude oil.

Wednesday 2nd of November 2016
and we spent the day stripping the cargo tanks and blowing the cargo lines. Now we have about 128m3 of slop that we will discharge tomorrow afternoon on Singapore anchorage. We will leave here tomorrow morning and we will drop the anchor on the inner anchorage tomorrow afternoon.

+++++++++++++++
Thursday 3rd of November 2016
and we had left the anchorage when I came in the CCR at 8 o'clock in the morning. We dropped anchor at Singapore inner anchorage around 13 thirty and we had completed the slop discharge just in time for dinner.

Friday 4rd of November 2016
and we were still anchored when I came to take charge of the good morning gymnastics. Second day now that I'm in charge, but the kicking exercises they have to do Yet another Smiley on www.aladdin.stby them self, well, I'm screaming pointers from my desk. But the leg is getting better and one of these days...

Our Pump Man came in to the CCR with two Star Trek swords and we started to fight. No need to mention who won the duel. The day passed by quite quickly. Our Chief Engineer, Captain and Engine Cadet signed off just before lunch, more food for me.

We left Singapore just before 6 o'clock bound for Sungai Udang, Melaka. We will load HSFO on Monday or Tuesday. The discharging in Tanjung Bin. After that we don't know, but I have been calculating on crude from Dumai and FO to Chittagong.

+++++++++++++++
Saturday 5th of November 2016
and we started the day with the good morning gymnastics, and I was able to “almost” completed the first leg/ knee exercise. Well, it is getting better and I have saved a few gymnastics movements from the internet that is supposed to be good for the knee. But I haven't had the time to start yet. Soon...

Aladdin's adventure on board M/T Roy Mærsk/ Roy Maersk

I plan to do it every day, and I have a chair in the CCR that is perfect for the exercises. But as Busy in the officesoon as we're ready with the tool box meeting I get busy and I “forget” my Osteoarthritis/ arthrosis physiotherapy exercisesarthrosis and the special gymnastics for the arthrosis.

Well, when it is an injury it is not called gymnastics, then it is called physiotherapy. The treatment of disease, injury, or deformity by physical methods such as massage, heat treatment, and exercise rather than
Arthrosis,

also known as osteoarthritis, is a joint disease caused by chronic wear of cartilage.

Unlike arthritis pain, which is often nocturnal and appears more or less continuous, arthrosis pain is often felt during the day and emphasizes during joint movement efforts.

Practicing a regular physical activity:
It can be hard to stay active when pain is felt. The regular practice of a physical activity is crucial to your overall health, but also to nourish and strengthen the muscles and thus relieve joints. Although it is uncomfortable at first, moving regularly reduces pain and the effects of arthrosis.

I have started with the exercise we can see above on our right hand side on our good morning gymnastics. Good, might prevent damages to our crew's knees. Stand on one leg, but the other exercises are not convenient for the good morning exercises. So these I have to do when I'm alone in the CCR.

We will have a vetting in the next discharge port so I watched a vetting video with the crew in the afternoon. But this is a video you will never have to see. You are lucky to have the Saturday afternoon fun video to enjoy.

FINALLY SATURDAY again!!! Time for a Saturday afternoon fun video

+++++++++++++++
Sunday 6th of November 2016
and we are still anchored waiting to come alongside in Sungai Udang, Melaka. We are preparing for the vetting and I went on a tour on deck with Pump Man and the Captain before lunch. But I learned that we might not have the vetting in Tanjung Bin as it is too close and we will not get an inspector booked in time.

Well, while I'm having lunch here on the anchorage outside Melaka my friends are at Terminal 21 in Bangkok for their lunch. Anyway, I will soon be home again.

and we are still anchored and no news or information about any berthing. Ras Maersk is loading and she have been alongside for a very long time, so maybe they have problem at the terminal.

Pilot came on board at 21:45 and by then we had bee stand-by for almost 2 hours. All fast at 23:00 and, well, my rest hours will most likely be red before I get to bed.

+++++++++++++++
Tuesday 8th of November 2016
and we started to load at 03:36 and I was back in my cabin at 4 o'clock. My alarm went off just after 10 o'clock and I was in my cabin enjoying myself until lunch time. We expect to stop between 13:00 and 13 thirty. Then we will load an 1100m3 line plug. Loading completed at 15:42 and we were ready with the cargo documents around 19:30.

A real smoker

I was busy with my papers when I heard a commotion behind me. It was the Surveyors and the 3rd Officer. Ponting out the window
- What’s going on? I asked
- Fire!
- Where? I asked

- WHERE?!

Turned out it was the ship in front of us. Black smoke coming out the funnel so they are maybe busy soot their boiler or something. I told the Surveyors that this is a common sight when you are in the area with PanamaGreek ships. Pilot will be on board at 23:30

At first it was pilot at 14 hundred, then 16:00 and finally, we will be at the pilot boarding place at 20:00. Good, we might start discharging 2 o'clock in the morning and that means that we will be ready during the daylight hours tomorrow, Yet another Smiley on www.aladdin.st hopefully.

and I was not in bed until 4 o'clock in the morning. I was about to fall asleep when they called from the CCR. I woke up by myself at 11 twenty and I had a quick cuppa before going for lunch. We completed discharging at 20 hundred and pilot booked for 23 thirty and we left Tanjung Bin and the ATB terminal behind us just after midnight.

Friday 11th of November 2016
and we dropped anchor at EOPL around 10 o'clock or so in the morning. Our next voyage is confirmed, Singapore to Chittagong. But not what to load or when. Just between 13 and 15th of November. So I will be home around 23rd of November, and my holiday is destroyed. And I'm not happy about it.

+++++++++++++++
Saturday 12th of November 2016
and we were still anchored when I came to the CCR at 8 o'clock. Our Cook had prepared a cinnamon surprise for me and we got on with the gymnastics as soon as I had Yet another Smiley on www.aladdin.stfinished the cinnamon surprise.

We had a lot of things to attend to today, but the most important is the Fläskpannkaka we're going to have for lunch. Yes, I have been “pepping” our Cook. Impossible to forget our Fläskpannkake video from Astoria back in 2004. And an excellent tutorial for our Cook here!

Well, he makes excellent raggmunks so I'm confident that he will make some very good, for sure the best fläskpannkaka I have ever had in Maersk, but just in case, I will be in the kitchen Yet another Smiley on www.aladdin.stkeeping an eye on him

And I could smell the cooking all the way to the CCR and I was reminded about the fläskpannkaka and I went to check out how the cooking went along. It was a good smell and our Cook (ex Broström with Swedish experience) was busy with the food.

And it looked just like when the Swedish Cooks make fläskpannkaka. But when he started to juggle Yet another Smiley on www.aladdin.stwith the pancakes I told him that it was not necessary to show off. And accident can happen and we will lose all fläskpannkaka.

I had to leave the kitchen as we were going to have a management meeting before lunch. So I had to leave the galley in the good hands of our Cook. I was a wee bit late for lunch and I dug right in to the serving dish. 2 stacks to start with.

I was the only one eating the fläskpannkaka, no one else knew what it was. I got our Chief Engineer and Captain to try. Yeah, they are from Denmark and they have never had the opportunity to try this delicacy before. Captain went to refill 3 times.

And I had orange juice to drink with the fläskpannkaka. I never drink orange juice, but back in school they only served orange juice when it was fläskpannkaka so it was like being 12 again having school lunch. And when I left I had have 4 or 5 stacks of pancakes, darn, way too much!

And as it is Saturday it is time for the Saturday afternoon fun video again. Gosh, it felt like yesterday we were watching the last Saturday afternoon fun video. The time is really passing quickly here. I should have been home already, but it will be another week before I get home.

FINALLY SATURDAY again!!! Time for a Saturday afternoon fun video

I have sent an e-mail to my reliever that he can expect to be on board around the 20th of November in Chittagong. I asked him if he could get some e-juice in India. I'm running low and I Pure Premium Vaporsneed a TOP UP if I should be sure to make it all the way home.

He will go to the Pure Premium Vapors shop tomorrow. The have a Pure Premium Vapors - American Tobacco e-juicejuice called: American Tobacco e-juice is a complex and aromatic rendition of a sweetly rich and robust tobacco vape.

Imagine to have to fly home without a little something to kill the time with. Now I can vap all the way home to my door Yet another Smiley on www.aladdin.stwithout being afraid to run out of juice. I will sleep much better tonight.

Yet another Smiley on www.aladdin.stAnd I will have a few extra “puffs” on my e-cigarette tonight, and that’s without having to worry about the e-juice lasting. Well, maybe I'm better of waiting until tomorrow when I get it confirmed that he have been able to get the juice.

Sunday 13th of November 2016
and we were on our way to Singapore inner anchorage when I woke up. We dropped the anchor at 3 thirty in the afternoon and we expect to come alongside tonight. So I went to bed and I woke up between 10 and 11 o'clock in the evening. And yes, no berthing prospects so I had to sit up all night at is was impossible to fall asleep after my power nap.

Monday 14th of November 2016
and we were still anchored when I came to the CCR 20 minutes past eight in the morning. We got started with the good morning gymnastics and Captain came to join us when we were half way through the exercises. Tool box meeting and the crew were off to Rain in Singaporedeck to paint.

Still no berthing prospects so I told them to finish work at 3 and to go for a rest. Who knows, we might run in to a full nighter, especially the Chief Officer.

It was soon starting to rain, no not raining, it was pouring down like I have never seen it before. And it was not a short shower, it just went on and on for hours. So no more painting for today.

So I took the opportunity to have a safety meeting with the deck crew after lunch. We have a new SAFETY ALERT regarding crushed fingers and I had the deck crew to study the accident and then we discussed the SAFETY ALERT.

and I was back in bed at 7 o'clock in the morning. And I was out of bed at 1 o'clock. A quick cuppa and then I went down to make yet another cuppa that I brought with me to the CCR. I spent all day in the CCR, we completed loading at 20:36 and Pilot booked for 2 o'clock in the morning.

Bad news, we are going to drop anchor here in Singapore awaiting orders. Yeah, just what I need, more delays. But later on we got new orders, proceed to Chittagong where I will receive my e-juice. I got the confirmation, my reliever have bought 2 bottles for me. And he bought himself an e-cigarette. Yeah, seems like we have a health thing going for us here.

and we are steaming north towards Chittagong in the Strait of Malacca when I come to the CCR at 8 o'clock in the morning. Today we will have our drills and we got started after the coffee break.

We went to try the water fog system in the engine room. We released a few hand held power extinguishers on poop deck so the crew had a chance to see some “live action” And most important, they had a chance to try the extinguishers.

But I'm in the clear or, my juice will last, unless of course, we have to drop the anchor waiting to come alongside for a day or two.

My friend have booked a boat for us to go see the Bryde's whales on Monday 28th of November. So it looks to be at least 2 whale watching tours next weekend, something I really look forward to. End of the whaling season in Thailand and I really hope we catch sight of a few Bryde's whales. Next chance is not until next year.

Lunch and we got the news, no berthing until afternoon as the morning water don't counts as daylight. And here in Chittagong it is daylight navigation only. And the Vetting Inspector is busy with another ship, so we don't know if we will have the vetting or not.

We finished our good morning coconut and I was off to the CCR to prepare for discharging and vetting inspection. Our on signers came with a small boat just before 10 o'clock and our 4th Engineer and one of the ABs left us with the very same boat.

They will stay 2 days at the hotel as there are no flights available until the 23rd. So I will stay with them for one night at the hotel before I fly back home to Bangkok

Well, a night in Chittagong is nothing I fancy, especially since Radisson Blu is full, but I can go there for my dinner. I don't expect my hotel to be very fancy as Radisson seems to be the only real hotel in town. But I can always go there for dinner tomorrow night.

My reliever came on board and we went through the paper work and we had a tour on deck before lunch. Pilot would board us at 15:00. So I was on the bridge just before 3 and it was almost an hour later when finally the pilot came on board. We started to steam up the Karnaphuli River. Heavy traffic and there are plenty ships leaving and arriving with the high water.

I looked on the internet yesterday and I hope to be able to take a river cruise on the river when I'm waiting for my flight. The only thing interesting I can think of to do in Chittagong, well, except for visiting the scrap yard.

So I hope I get an opportunity to visit the scrap yard and to take a cruise on the Karnaphuli River tomorrow. But you just have to stay tuned to find out how it goes.
