Aladdin's adventure on board M/T Roy Mærsk

Friday 19th of August 2016 and I stepped on board around 11 o'clock. I recognised our Pump Man and OS, same as when I left back in June. Sorry to learn that our Pump Man is leaving us in Aladdin's adventure on board M/T Roy MærskChittagong. He told me that we are going to load here for Chittagong.

I was surprised to see that Roy Mærsk was in ballast, I had expected her to have loaded crude oil in Dumai. But we were going to load fuel oil for Chittagong in Bangladesh.

They had been doing tank cleaning and the barge next to us were going to take our slop water. I had thought it was a bunker barge when I approached on the launch.

I was soon learning that we will get our Pilot at 2 o'clock in the morning. So it will be a full day and night here in Singapore.

And I was busy doing cargo plans while the off signing Chief Officer discharged slop and purged the cargo tanks. He will leave around 7 o'clock tonight with the rest of the off signers. I kept myself busy all afternoon and the time passed really quickly. The off signing Chief Officer stopped the IG purging of the cargo tanks.

When they were ready with the purging I could start to prepare for the loading. We did all the tests and checks so no need to do this in the middle of the night when I will have enough of other things to do. We simply just call it one step ahead.

A beautiful evening on Singapore anchorage

I had time for a quick evening constitutional on deck while the AB opened and closed cargo valves according to a plan I had given to him. It was a gorgeous evening and I really enjoyed my Aladdin's adventure on board M/T Roy Mærsk“exercise” And I have planned to put me “diet bet” on the wall in the mess room on Sunday evening.

And as our 4th Engineer is on diet he want to join me, but we will have to see about that.

I found my boiler suit but I could not find my working shoes. Well, after some searching I heard that our Pump Man had them in his cabin.

He had been washing my shoes so they should be ready for me when I was joining. We inspected some of our ballast tanks before I signed off and they shoes were full of mud.

When the AB was ready with the valves I went to double check the valves before I went inside to have my rest. The launch arrived around 8 o'clock and our off signers could come ashore.

and they called me at 3 o'clock in the morning. We were approaching the jetty and I did not even had any time to finish a can of Diet Pepsi before going to Aladdin's adventure on board M/T Roy Mærsk/ Roy Maerskthe bridge.

We had all fast at 4 thirty but we didn't start loading until just a few minutes before 11 o'clock.

And I enjoyed several cups of tea during the morning. I still remember when we had been in Berrima, coming back from the Quarry Path along the Wingecarribee River.

We were going to have our dinner at the pub. I asked for a beer mug with tea. And wham! The bar was suddenly full with people checking out my tea. On Roy Mærsk they have a different approach, when I brought out my tea cup they looked strangely at me and my cup.

But now it is the most natural thing in the world and everyone on board drinking tea from the Aladdin styled tea mugs by now.

So it will be a full night again, if we had started in the morning we would have been out of here early evening. We completed loading just before 7 thirty in the evening and we left Singapore a little after 10 o'clock in the evening. Chittagong next!!!

Sunday 21st of August 2016
and I woke up at 11:15. Darn! I must have been tired. I had my lunch, and yes, tomorrow will be the day I put up the diet bet in the mess room. And as no
surprise, when the 4th Engineer saw the bet he decided not to participate. I will get my “Best looking guy in town '16” diet on the road tomorrow.

And I will Yet another Smiley on www.aladdin.st hopefully get going with my Yet another Smiley on www.aladdin.st constitutionals. BUT NOT TODAY!

Anyway, we had changed more than 25% of the crew so we have to hold some drill within 24 hours after the departure from Singapore. And we will have them at 1 o'clock in the afternoon. And this is of course promising to be exciting. We completed everything by having a life boat muster and it was nice to get back in to the AC again.

Monday 22nd of August 2016
and the crew were waiting for me when I came in to the CCR with a cup of tea 2 minutes before 8 o'clock. They were like they were sitting in needles, eager to get Aladdin's adventure on board M/T Roy Mærsk/ Roy MaerskYet another Smiley on www.aladdin.stgoing with the good morning gymnastics.

But first a few preparations, music, of course, no good morning gymnastics without music. We were soon having the gymnastics in full swing, but as it was quite some time ago I had forgot many of our moves. Never mind, we don't want to kill anyone so we're better of with a slow start.

The crew was happy and I could tell, just by looking at them, that they had been missing the gymnastics. Well, our Pump Man told me, first thing when I stepped on board:
- Gymnastics every morning from now on!
- That's the spirit we're looking for!

We did some stretching and as we got along I remembered more of the exercises we used to do back when I was here last time. When we were ready we took our seats again and we held our tool Aladdin's adventure on board M/T Roy Mærsk/ Roy Maerskbox meeting before we started today's work.

Risk assessments was done and I have the crew to read the risk assessments and the safety information from the company Yet another Smiley on www.aladdin.stand they sign a list to acknowledge that they had been through the information.

We went through the preparation and painting using my very own (and popular) “STEP BY STEP” Aladdin's adventure on board M/T Roy Mærsk/ Roy Maersktechnique. And the guys will Yet another Smiley on www.aladdin.st hopefully not run in to any surprises and accidents as we had already been doing the job in our minds. I have them to explain for us how Hard work on board M/T Roy Mærsk/ Roy Maerskthey are going to do, from leaving the CCR until start painting on deck. Every step on the way, mixing paint etc. and what kind of protection they are going to use.

And of course, it is not only DOs as there are many DONTs as well. When we were ready with all the paper work it was no more Mr. Nice Guy
Yet another Smiley on www.aladdin.st - Get your arses out on deck! She is red like a fox!

And today will also go down the history books as the day I put up my 1000 US$ diet bet on the wall in the mess room. But I'm sorry to say that I “forgot” to do it until after the dinner.

And we remember my “personal valet” on the diving boat on the Great Barrier Reef. She told me about Tonga and swimming with the Humpback whales. Of course, if you tell me that there is a place to swim with Humpback whales I have to go there.

And we also remember the adventure in Donsol, when I was swimming with the whale sharks. And yes, it was fantastic, but my Scooby Doo 500 camera was for sure not delivering any pictures that will impress anyone. And Donsol is just around the corner from me.

Donsol whale shark

Donsol whale shark

Donsol whale shark

Never mind how exciting it gets, there is always time to flip the bird!

But if I will spend 20,000 US$ do go swim with the Humpback whales I need some good equipment. Or as they call it in the “diver community”, a rig. What kind of rig do you use? Yeah, you get the Blue Water Photopicture. Well, never mind the lingo, but I have been in contact with Blue Water Photo and they have been providing a very good service.

And I must mention Mr. Masken, a dedicated diver and he have supported me with much info and tips before my purchase. He runs a web page with underwater photography so please visit his page at diving.warmling.com

Of course, no need to visit if you don't appreciate underwater pictures. Anyway, I have got it confirmed from the Agent in Singapore that Blue Water Photo can send the equipment to them and they will deliver it to me in Singapore. Yeah, why not send it home to Thailand.

Well, let me tell you one thing about corruption. When each one of the custom officers see the import duties as their own personal revenue it is like walking in to a robbery collecting your stuff from overseas.

And yes, I have been at the cargo terminal at Don Muang to pick up stuff and it was like a market with different groups screaming at you. They wanted you to use their service and you had to choose one of them and the robbery could start. I mean, you could haggle on the import tax, or their made up import tax and fee for each item.

After that, yes, never mind, you always feel cheated and after that I have always been using a forwarding (shipping) agent and I have never had any problem with any import taxes.

Humpback encounter - Tonga

Whales of the Kingdom Tonga

Imagine to get to experience this!! Well, will be worth every penny. I have been looking for flights from Bangkok to Tonga and it is not easy. And to fly to Tonga is, well, not cheap. I have a plan to Map of Tongafly via Fiji, and then I can stay there for a day or two as well. Might be some interesting birds. And from Fiji they have direct flights to Vava'u.

Vava'u is a small island north of Tongatapu. Nukuʻalofa is the capital of the Kingdom of Tonga. It is located on the north coast of the island of Tongatapu, in the HumpBackSwims.com / Scuba Diver Life Expeditionssouthernmost island group of Tonga.

So there is a few options, but as I will have to change in Singapore and/ or Auckland I can as well stay to have a look at Fiji. But as we learned in the video, this will not be until next year as when I'm back home the Humpbacks have returned to the Antarctica. And we know that Antarctica is on my planning table, but for sure, not for any snorkelling. Only to see the Emperor Penguins.

Tuesday 23rd of August 2016
and we started the day with the good morning gymnastics. Then we held a tool box meeting before I chased out the crew on deck. Pump Man and one of the ABs and Aladdin's adventure on board M/T Roy Mærsk/ Roy Maerskthe OS stayed behind. Yes, my “special OPS” team and we have some important things that we have to attended to.

When they were of I went to make yet another cup of tea. I have many cargo Yet another Smiley on www.aladdin.stplans and stowage plans to do in the CCR so a cup of tea is of course required.

I ran in to our Cook
- Do you like Raggmunk?
- You know duck all about Raggmunk
- I have been in Broström for many years
What the? He caught my attention. That means that he is a previous Shipnet employee and we always had the very good Filipino crews on the Swedish ships.

And believe it or not, I had told the gays at the lunch yesterday that this was the best Cook I had been working with in Maersk. I told him that we had a small problem. My diet and we decided to have Raggmunks for lunch on Saturday when the bet is off. Well, Raggmunk, a wee bit to look forward to.

+++++++++++++++
Wednesday 24th of August 2016
and I'm sure that it won't come as any surprise that we started with the god morning gymnastics. When we were ready we had a tool box meeting and the guys were off to deck for painting.

I kept my team for the “special ops” in the CCR. We will do work in the gantry crane and we need to make work permits, tool box and risk assessments before we can start. I had the AB to go get a safety harness so we could do some safety harness training before we started the work Pranks on board M/T Roy Mærsk/ Roy Maerskaloft adventure.
Pranks on board M/T Roy Mærsk/ Roy Maersk
Pump Man went on deck to adjust the cargo heating and as we all love a good prank I had the OS and the AB to hide behind the door when we saw the Pump Man through the window. He is coming back to the CCR and we will have a surprise for him.

Well, promise not to tell anyone as it will spoil the surprise tomorrow morning. I was Pranks on board M/T Roy Mærsk/ Roy Maerskless than impressed by our AB trying to scare our Pump Man so I will set up a new prank for him tomorrow. And yes, he will have to continue doing so until he manage to scare the Pump Man.

Because today's try was pathetic to observe, he jumped out from behind the door and Pump Man, well, he just turned around looking at him asking if something was wrong with him. Yet another Smiley on www.aladdin.st

Waiting for Pump Man
Aladdin's adventure on board M/T Roy Mærsk/ Roy Maersk
Seriously, is this the best you can?

Well, stay tuned and you will see if he manage to impress us tomorrow. Arriving Chittagong on Friday, and today we got information that we will have to wait until Sunday before we can come alongside. And that will be a totally different adventure.

My underwater camera equipment is on the way and I'm looking for snorkelling tours in SE Asia so I can practice before the humpback whale adventure next year. The humpbacks are back in the Antarctica when I'm back home.

Good for me, I need time for practicing with the camera equipment. And of course, if I can lose a few cubic tonnes until then it would be very nice. A cubic ton of lard isn't all that

easy to get underwater. On the Great Barrier Reef I saw a blue worm and according to the people knowing of this stuff it was very rare to see.

Anyway, I tried to get a picture and I was fighting with this for 20 minutes before I gave up. It was no problem as long as I gave some thrust with the flippers.

OK, it was kind of hard, I was wearing my basketball trousers and they wanted to get back up to the surface together with the Aladdin shirt (famous from the whale shark pictures) that I was wearing to protect my back from the sun. And of course, it was also protecting fellow passengers on the boat.

Imagine their trauma seeing Mr. Lard Ass coming up from the water without a shirt to cover the eye sore. For sure, not a pleasant experience. And we had kids on board as well, so out of respect...

Anyway, where were we? Yes, the blue worm on the picture above.

I swam down to the blue worm and as soon as I stopped I float back up. After several tries I decided to swim back 10 meters or so and I turned around and I was swimming full speed down towards the blue worm and I almost hit it. I shot a picture and I was back on the surface like a whale. So I need both practice with my new underwater equipment and the snorkelling.

And after looking around it seems like Indonesia or the Philippines seems to be the place to be if you don't want to spend hours on an airplane.

But we will see, it would be very nice to end up on a place with both a good snorkelling site and with some nice birds in the area. It will be a lot of camera stuff to carry around. I don't want to go around like a twat taking pictures of birds with an underwater camera.

And I will most likely buy my own snorkel and diving-mask, more stuff to carry around.

Thursday 25th of August 2016
and we started right off with the good morning gymnastics, well, our mess man came by to disturb us. And no, he didn't wanted to join our good morning gymnastics. Aladdin's adventure on board M/T Roy Mærsk/ Roy MaerskHe left again and we Yet another Smiley on www.aladdin.stcould start our well needed exercise.

We got started with some of the arm exercises and stretches. Exactly the ones that make sus feel GREAT in the morning.

And of course, the popular exercise Yet another Smiley on www.aladdin.st“picking your nose and scratching your behind” exercise that is growing in popularity. We did all the different exercises I remember Aladdin's adventure on board M/T Roy Mærsk/ Roy Maerskfrom last time I was on board, and by now I remember most
of them.

And of course, we have a tune to go with the exercises.

Remeber! It has to be on full blast

We finished the exercises and I sent our Pump Man to the mess room to pick up tissues. Well, anything would have worked, but just to get him out from the CCR.

Yes, we remember the failed prank yesterday. But today I have high hopes Yet another Smiley on www.aladdin.st for the prank to work out. I had the AB to hide to give the Pump Man a good scare when he was returning with the tissues. What a failure!

The AB was concentrating not to miss my “Pump Man is coming” signal, and yes, it turned in to a fiasco. But we're not giving up. Maybe, yes, there is a chance for this to get boring before we succeed, but not yet and we're going to continue. And we start straight away by sending back Pump Man with the tissues

Pump Man went back with the tissues and now I asked the AB to hide at a different place. Outside the CCR so he would scare Pump Man from behind. A fail safe method, at least this was what I was thinking. I was delirious by anticipation, it is impossible to fail with the “BOO from behind” technique so this will be fun!

But it seems like it is possible even with the impossible around here, and it was a yet another GRAND failure. Well, the enthusiasm had for sure cooled down, but we are not giving up.

and there were only a few of the crew waiting for me in the CCR when I came down at 8 o'clock. We were about to drop the anchor so they were busy elsewhere. We Aladdin's adventure in Chittagong with M/T Roy Mærsk/ Roy Maerskheld the good morning exercise and tool box meeting and when I was on deck we had just dropped the anchor and Pump Man was on his way back from the fo'c's'le.

I could hear chicken and goats and I thought “What the Yet another Smiley on www.aladdin.st” I went to check it out, and yes, we had just dropped the anchor and we had a floating convenient store tied up alongside. And not any convenient store as you are used to, chicken, goats, live lobsters and fruit. I told them to leave.

Aladdin's adventure in Chittagong with M/T Roy Mærsk/ Roy Maersk

They are not allowed to tie up their boats on our ship and I had to tell them 10 times to leave. They came up with all kind of excuses and they didn't leave until I screamed at them.
Angry smiley- GET THE DUCK UT OF HERE!

They wanted to swap supplies for oil and they had plenty empty drums on the back of the canoe looking boat. Yeah, if we start swapping oil for food we're soon in more trouble than we wish for and this is nothing we're going to get involved in as long as I'm on board.

We got extra watchmen on board just before lunch. I had time for a safety familiarization before I went for lunch. When I was back from lunch the extra watch men were setting up a shop outside Aladdin's adventure in Chittagong with M/T Roy Mærsk/ Roy Maerskthe CCR. They were selling pearls, wrist watches etc. First it was original wrist watches and then it was “very good” copies.

150 US$, I told him that the knock offs are about 10 to 12 US in Bangkok. But these wrist watches was the best you could buy for money. Well, who buy a knock off watch? Will you ever be Yet another Smiley on www.aladdin.stable to trust the darn wrist watch?

For sure, I would not trust any Scooby Doo watch. Anyway, we have 8 extra watch men on board and they will stay with us until we're leaving Chittagong. Do we need these people? Yes, those ship trying to avoid them have been robbed so it is a wee bit like paying for protection from the robbers.

They know exactly what ships doesn’t pay for the extra watch men and they are always loosing ropes and paint etc. So we have the extra 8 people on board, a way to feed their population.

+++++++++++++++
Saturday 27th of August 2016
and we are still anchored outside Chittagong when I come down to the CCR. The crew is waiting for the good morning gymnastics. I had stoped in the mess room on Aladdin's adventure in Chittagong with M/T Roy Mærsk/ Roy Maerskmy way to the CCR to make a cup of tea and as it is Saturday I had a Yet another Smiley on www.aladdin.stfresh made roll with butter. And some bacon, and as our Cook have his history on Swedish ships he makes bacon like no one else.

And bacon is what we call meat so this is allowed 7 days per week.

It was time for yet another meeting after the coffee break. This time it was about malaria and I handed out malaria medicines to the crew that wanted to eat the malaria Aladdin's adventure in Chittagong with M/T Roy Mærsk/ Roy Maersktablets. We start to eat the medicine 1 day before (today) arrival and we have to keep on eating the medicines for 7 days after leaving.

The Malarone medicine is not all that good for you so I and a few other will skip the medicine. When we were ready I went to check out on our Cook again, the Raggmunk looks to be great.

I was in a hurry to get to the mess room when the clock turned 12 and by that time I was delirious by anticipation.

Aladdin's adventure in Chittagong with M/T Roy Mærsk/ Roy Maersk

Of course, I was not disappointed, one of Broströms finest in action and it was one of the best Raggmunks I have ever had. The rest of the crew had no ducking crew what it was.

We have a Danish Cadet and he tried 1 (ONE) of the Raggmunks. And there was plenty of them. And what to do? I was worried, if all the Raggmunks goes back to the kitchen there will never be Raggmunks again. I will not mention any names, but someone had to sacrifice and Aladdin's adventure in Chittagong with M/T Roy Mærsk/ Roy Maerskfinish the darn things.

I was full after lunch, but we had to complete the test of our Hermetic UTIs so no time for any POWER NAP.

We finished the UTI test and I made a requisition for new malaria medicine to be delivered in Singapore next time. Who knows, we might go back to Chittagong and then we need more malaria medicine.

The crew will completed the painting on deck and I Hard working Mr. Dynamitetold them to go take a rest after they had finished the painting. They have been working hard so a little rest will do them good. Hard working Mr. Dynamite, yeah, they can have Hard working Mr. Dynamitesome rest, we will soon be busy again and to work long days on the very hot deck is hard.

And who knows? Maybe the crew will enjoy the hot afternoon by watching my “Saturday afternoon fun” video inside in the air conditioned accommodation.

“Saturday afternoon fun”

Latest news is that we will get our Pilot at 07:00 tomorrow morning. Start discharging late afternoon? Maybe I have time to go to the Chittagong scrapping yard with the Chief Engineer. My friend running a web page about ship scrapping, the by now famous MERSEY SHIPPING - Welcome to the Ship Scrapping blog And he might need a few pictures and I will Yet another Smiley on www.aladdin.st hopefully be able to provide a few. Well, let’s see, last time we could not go there because of some protests.

+++++++++++++++
Sunday 28th of August 2016
and they called me just after 7 o'clock. Pilot was on board and we were approaching our jetty. We will discharge at Dolphin Oil Jetty #5 and there is still a boat Aladdin's adventure in Chittagong with M/T Roy Mærsk/ Roy Maerskmoored to the jetty.

We will go up the river passing the jetty and then we will turn around and waiting up river for the boat to leave from our jetty.

We could see that it was a huge port as there are many big ships along the river and we could see them all the way to the horizon. We turned around and we had a container ship coming up the river and one big container ship departing coming down the river Aladdin's adventure in Chittagong with M/T Roy Mærsk/ Roy Maerskbehind us.

We were waiting for 5 to 10 minutes while we watched m/t Santrina from Panama leaving Dolphin Oil Jetty #5. Santrina left and we moved in to take her place.

We had 2 ships from the Bangladesh navy passing us on the river while we were moving in to the jetty. The port seems to be quite busy with the ships passing us on the Karnaphuli River. We had the first line ashore at 08:15

Chittagong

Porto Grande de Bengala; Mughal Islamabad) is a major coastal seaport city and financial centre in southeastern Bangladesh. The city has a population of more than 2.5 million while the metropolitan area has a population of over 6.5 million, making it the second largest city in the country.

It is the capital of an eponymous district and division. The city is located on the banks of the Karnaphuli River between the Chittagong Hill Tracts and the Bay of Bengal. The natural harbour of Chittagong has been a gateway to the historic region of Bengal for centuries.

It was a prominent trading centre and hosted the first European colonial enclaves in Bengal, which were operated by the Portuguese in the 16th and 17th centuries. The district was ruled by the Sultanate of Bengal, the Kingdom of Mrauk U and the Mughal Empire until the 18th century, at which point it was ceded to the British East India Company.

The port was the terminus of the Grand Trunk Road and the Assam Bengal Railway. During the Burma Campaign in World War II, the city was also a key base for Allied Forces. Rapid industrialisation followed the war.

Becoming a part of East Pakistan in 1947, the city was the site of Bangladesh's Declaration of Independence in 1971.

The river is full of oil and garbage

I spotted a lot of oil in the river and I made a remark about it in the deck log book. I also took a Aladdin's adventure in Chittagong with M/T Roy Mærsk/ Roy Maerskfew pictures, can come in handy when they come to claim us for having polluted their river.

They don't care about the pollution, but they know that it is forbidden to pollute in the civilized part of the world. So they know that they can get a lot of money. Not to clean up the oil, but to put in their own pocket.

So a note in the log book and a few pictures are always good to have. I came down to the CCR and I started to prepare the paper work. I expected an onslaught of people to come on board, and there were plenty people. But this time it was different. Normal paper work and at 11 thirty we were ready to start discharging, 1 and a half hour after the Loading Master and Surveyors had come on board.

This must be some kind of record in this part of the world. Very smooth operation and I was very pleasantly surprised. Now I hope that we're able to leave Chittagong on Tuesday morning. Will there be time for me to visit the scrap yard?

The Agent will find out if I'm allowed to go to visit the scrap yard and I will Yet another Smiley on www.aladdin.st hopefully be able to go see the place tomorrow. So keep your eyes out, we might run in to some excitement down the Chittagong beach tomorrow.

Monday 29th of August 2016
and our extra Painters will help in the engine department today. As we're alongside there is nothing for them to do. We finished all the painting yesterday and chipping is no option when we're alongside.

The watches are on deck overlooking the discharging operation and I had our new Pump Man and OS to study risk assessments and safety information/ instruction.

Looks like we will be ready tomorrow morning, darn! I had expected to be ready tonight. They connected one extra hose yesterday and we were pumping 700m3/h. But their extra hose was leaking so we had to stop discharging over manifold #1 two o'clock in the morning and now it looks like we will be ready early tomorrow morning.

We discharged our garbage during the morning and they changed the leaking hose ashore. So now it looks like we will be ready around midnight or so. So it will be a full night and I went for a power nap in the afternoon. But it will be nice to leave tomorrow morning and that is even though it have been very smooth here this time around.

Tuesday 30th of August 2016
and they called me at midnight, we were about to be ready with the discharging. Wonderful, a full night ahead of me with paperwork and drama. But I got 45 minutes High heel flippersof power nap in the afternoon so it might turn out to be OK, but I doubt it.

Well, my friend knows about my humpback plans and he sent me a picture of a pair of flippers that he thought would be nice to use when swimming with the whales. But where to buy a pair of flippers like those?

We completed discharging at 00:42 and the paper work was ready around 3 thirty in the morning and I was in bed around 4 thirty. That would give me about 3 hours of sleep before departure. It was a wee bit hard to fall asleep so I was dead tired when they called me.

I had managed to get 2 hours of sleep and I was half asleep on the bridge, sitting in the sofa waiting for the pilot that was delayed by an hour. The Pilot was delayed by an hour, an hour both me and the Captain could have found better use for.

We are on the Karnaphuli River

We left Chittagong and I went to bed. I aimed for three hours before lunch, but even though I was tired it was hard to get some sleep. I woke up 30 minutes before my alarm was set to go off. Aladdin's adventure on board M/T Roy Mærsk/ Roy MaerskWell, it will Yet another Smiley on www.aladdin.st hopefully be easy to fall asleep tonight.

We got new crew here in Chittagong, a Pump Man, AB and a OS. We also changed our 2nd Engineer so the new crew need a familiarization before we can get them to work.

And of course, they have to read and study our risk assessments and safety instructions. So there is a lot to do and that is good, time turns quickly and it is soon time Smiley drinking teato go drink tea. And while drinking tea I will study the internet planning for my adventure on Bali training with my new underwater camera equipment.

I got a tracking message from Fedex the other day and my equipment have been delivered to our Diving smileyAgent in Singapore. Maybe I will do a trail in our pool. Just to throw something in to the pool and then practicing to dive down to take pictures of the said item.
Yet another Smiley on www.aladdin.st - Hmm, the more I think about this the greater the idea seems to be!

And I will also be able to practice taking pictures under water in the dark, or in the twilight. A pretty smart idea, in the comfort of a pool I can practice every light condition. I will get right on to the task to find something to throw in the pool.

Yes, by the time I'm on Tonga I need to be at least not “helpless” with my camera and snorkelling equipment. Believe me, getting from Bangkok to Vava’u is not all that easy. Plenty changes and I have decided to fly from Fiji straight to Vava’u. So as it looks like I will have to fly Bangkok - Sydney - Auckland - Fiji - Vava’u.

The Bangkok - Sydney leg is with Thai Airways something I want to avoid. Singapore Airlines fly to Auckland but they don't have share flights with New Zealand Airlines. So then I will have to fly with Virgin from Australia. I will see, I will most likely, well, I will stay for some birding and snorkelling on Fiji.

I will see, flying with Thai to Australia and I don't have to bother with luggage as they have share flight with New Zealand Airlines and I check the luggage all the way, but to fly with Thai airways.....?

Let's not get in to lengthy discussions and rants about Thai Airways, I just avoid to fly with them if it is possible. And for sure not fly with them for the reason a Stewardess from Thai Airways gave me. I was on my way to do some whale watching in Sydney and I saw a Thai Airlines air stewardess waiting for the elevator. She felt on her knees when I asked her:
- แม่ของคุณอยากเอาลูกเขยฝรั่งไหม

Not what she had expected early morning in Sydney. Anyway, we were talking in the elevator going down and she told me that I should fly with Thai Airways because they had Thai staff. Yet another Smiley on www.aladdin.st

Wednesday 31st of August 2016
and we were anchored when I came down to the waiting crew in the CCR at 8 o'clock. I was carrying my cup of tea and we were facing a new exciting day full of Aladdin's adventure on board M/T Roy Mærsk/ Roy Maerskadventures and hard work.

The crew continued with the chipping on deck and it started to rain. I could not hear the chipping machines and well, doesn’t take much to figure out where they were hiding. The ship is red like a fox Yet another Smiley on www.aladdin.stand we can't afford to miss even a second of chipping on deck.

I sent one of the ABs the chase them out on deck again. I watched them from the CCR when they came out to go get their rain Yet another Smiley on www.aladdin.stcoats. Sunshine will come and then we can cup brush and paint. But we can chip in the rain and I could not help myself but thinking about the old classic tune “Chipping in the rain”

I was busy during the day and the time turned very quickly. And the best part is that it looks like I will be busy tomorrow again. The days are passing quickly. And this time around I have promised myself not to plan for any holiday adventures. Next holiday and I will stay home relaxing with some bird watching.

This is me in a very near future
- No dummy! Not the graceful swimmer, but the one holding the camera

But, I have already set up a snorkelling adventure on Bali with Blue Season Bali. And I don't know if I want to call it a holiday. It will be hard training with my underwater equipment before going to Vava’u and the humpback whales.

I was searching the internet for good snorkelling sites and Bali came up. I contacted a few companies and as usually when I decide for a company I take the best reply. Not necessary the cheapest as I'm going for a good experience and not to save money, and so far this have been a winning method. OK, I had a great trip to Australia, but the 3 day Great Ocean Road for 2500$ p*ssed me off. Söderhavsresor, never again!

Anyway, this time it was Blue Season Bali that gave the best impression and they have set up a tour for me. So this is a little something I'm looking forward to, snorkelling and birding.

And I'll be darned, we're going to Haldia. And there is a national park not far away. Tiger safari but here they do it by boat. Maybe go there for a day if we end up waiting in Haldia. I
The Sundarbans

(Bengali: সুন্দরবন, Shundôrbôn) is a natural region comprising southern Bangladesh and a small part in the Indian state of West Bengal. It is the largest single block of tidal halophytic mangrove forest in the world. The Sundarbans covers approximately 10,000 square kilometres most of which is in Bangladesh with the remainder in India. The Sundarbans is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Sundarbans South, East and West are three protected forests in Bangladesh. This region is densely covered by mangrove forests, and is the largest reserves for the Bengal tiger. The Sundarbans National Park is a National Park, Tiger Reserve, and a Biosphere Reserve located in the Sundarbans delta in the Indian state of West Bengal.
checked out the place on the internet. One day is not enough!

So I'm actually busy setting up a tiger safari in India for December. But this time only in Sundarban and 3 to 5 Smiley on tiger safari in Sundarbandays in the park looking for birds and tigers from a boat.

Looks like yet another adventure for our “Africa Corps” hero. And as I have waste, well, invested a lot of money in my safari helmet ISmiley on tiger safari in Sundarban will be very happy if I can find the use for the helmet and uniform again.

Yeah, the safari uniform, impossible to forget all the drama I had to go through to arrange the uniform in Dar Es Salaam.

Lo and behold, the month of August 2016 have come to an end. We're looking forwards to new adventures on board m/t Roy Mærsk in the month of September 2016. Just click HERE
