Sunday 20th of June 2004 and it was time to sign on again. This time it was Bro Jupiter and she was at shipyard in Fredrikshamn, Denmark. Convenient, just to take the Stena ferry from Aladdin's adventure onboard M/T Bro Jupiter back in 2004Gothenburg to Fredrikshamn and a taxi to the shipyard.

I made up my mind to go serious about the diet this time. I knew the Cook onboard from Stena Barbados and Bro Nelly, well, I hope he's onboard. We use to be on diet together onboard. I'm losing plenty and El Cocinero is usually angry and in bad mood when I get slender and handsome and he lose f••k all. Well, I have to learn to live with it.

When I spoke with the company they told me that Bro Jupiter was scheduled to leave the dry dock on Sunday 20th of June and then stay for a few days more at the shipyard. I hope we leave the shipyard in a jiff, it's not very exciting to stay at shipyard.

It will be nice to work as 2nd Officer again, its summer and I can go ashore for sightseeing and stuff. As Chief Officer I have to stay onboard if there is any problem.
No one calls me in the middle of the night:
- We have problem with this and that!
I can sit in the dayroom with the El Cocinero watching movies and eating snacks (cucumbers and carrots) and drink diet coke.

When I spoke with Broström on Thursday afternoon they told me that I had to leave Gothenburg with the ferry 0745 Sunday morning. I will sign on together with 1 AB. It's the son of the Captain on CT Star (you remember the one from Farmerville?).

0745 Sunday morning sounds great, my favourite time of the day. But they weren't sure about the time so we agreed to have another chat on Friday afternoon.

It's nice to be back in Broström. I will get my ISPS (International Ship and Port Facility
Security Code) certificate. Required from the 1st of July 2004.

All ships must have a Ship Security Officer from July 2004 and I need the certificate so I can be a Ship Security Officer. In Broström it's Chief Officers duty to be the Ship Security Officer.

You can read a little about the ISPS code to the left. Enjoy!!
I'm looking forward to study for the certificate when coming onboard Bro Jupiter. Then there will come someone from the port authorities to cross-examine me and hopefully I can get the certificate.

They called from Broström Friday morning and told me that they had made a reservation for Sunday morning. The ferry will leave 0730 from Gothenburg. I was busy buying snus and packing my bag on Saturday.

I will sign off between 15th and 20th of August and then I will have a holiday with Sue. We will go around and see the beautiful sights of Skåne. We will rent a car and we will take the opportunity to spend a night in Copenhagen as well. Maybe, I say maybe, we will go to Stockholm for a few days as well. But Skåne is the place to be. There are:
Nice people.
Beautiful sights.
Breath taking landscape.
Exciting stuff to do.
One thing is for sure, you can find everything about the adventure on my page. So keep an eye out! It will be fun. Now I'm off to upload my web page and then it's time for my power nap. My alarm clock will go off at 0550 tomorrow morning.

As no surprise I was half dead when my alarm clock went off at 0550. I had time for a quick shower and I was off with my bags. It was only 100 meter to the tram stop but my luggage was killing me. Where my bags heavy or what? 1 bag for the computer and the other bag was pretty much my portable home.

If I bring my bag to a trailer park they will charge me as for a medium size trailer. Talk about mobile home. This is how it's like living in a bag.

I missed the 0608 tram and I had to wait until 0622. I was only going 2 stops and I was on the ferry terminal. Not exactly on the terminal, I had to transport my bags from the tram stop to the terminal, a back breaking task. But it was nice when I finally reached the terminal. It didn't take long before one guy came up to me.
- Are you Aladdin?

I was signing on together with an AB and we should pick up our tickets at the terminal. The guy on Broström must have told him that he was to meet a “darn handsome” guy on the terminal.

We looked for a place to have our breakfast, but the restaurant in the terminal was closed and all the vending machines were out of order. Hmm, I hope they have a nice restaurant onboard. Aladdin's adventure onboard M/T Bro Jupiter back in 2004While waiting to board the ferry his father called on his phone. He asked for a chat with me and we talked about the good old days on CT Star.

Finally at 0705 they let us onboard the ferry.
- It will be nice with some breakfast, I told the AB.
Hmm, we didn't find any restaurant. Only a fast food counter, big disappointment. I could buy a diet coke and my new friend had a cup of coffee. Not exactly what we had in mind. But it was good with Aladdin's adventure onboard M/T Bro Jupiter back in 2004some well needed vitamins. At 0730 we left Gothenburg and ETA Fredrikshamn 0930.

We were travelling with Stena Express. Good, if they can't serve decent food onboard they better bring us to our destination in a jiff so we can get some Danish breakfast.

Swedish summer, well, late spring and it was a few days before midsummer and the normal overcast sky. But when we left Go:teborg behind the sun broke through the clouds.

Arrival to Fredrikshamn ferry terminal

At arrival to Fredrikshamn we went to a TAXI stop. No taxi in sight, but I called a taxi and we Aladdin's adventure onboard M/T Bro Jupiter back in 2004had to wait for a minute. Well, as you know the ISPS code will be in full effect from 1st of July and at arrival to Fredrikshamn I could see the first sign of the ISPS code.

Plenty sign, but no sign of any guards. No one checked us and the taxi and there were people all over the port area. How many of them carrying bombs? I don't know.

I don't think anyone knew and I don't think those signs are stopping any terrorists. I think this ISPS code is just another paper tiger. But it looks good.

It took us about 5 minutes with taxi to the ship. Bro Jupiter was in the dry dock and she had been on the shipyard for 9 days and she was about to leave the dry dock in the afternoon.

I climbed onboard and I meet the 2nd Officer going home. He will leave tomorrow with the 10 o'clock ferry to Sweden. So he will show me around the ship during the day. Plenty to see, but I was very enthusiastic after leaving my bags behind in my cabin. It was a nice cabin and I filled up my refrigerator with snus first thing. My bag will be a lot easier to carry when signing off, all my snus will be finished by then.

When we came to the bridge I thought that I recognized the bridge. After a while it struck me, it was the same bridge as on Tärnfors that I had been working on a few years ago. There was the normal equipment on the bridge. Furuno radars, I like Furuno radars.

But I'm not very pleased with the rest of the Furuno equipment. I was introduced to the bridge and the equipment and we filled up “Welcome onboard“ and “Bridge familiarization” forms. There were some other forms as well, but I have forgotten what they call them. But this is what we have to do every time signing on a new ship.

Well, before soon it was time for lunch. The Cook I knew from Stena Barbados and Bro Nelly had signed of 2 days before I came onboard. But our Cook seems to be very good. There was a barrel Aladdin's adventure onboard M/T Bro Jupiter back in 2004of salad and I got the feeling that this time I will have a great success with my diet.

They should fill up the dry dock at 1300 and we should shift to a jetty at 1600.

We had to be stand-by at the fo'c's'le and poop deck tending to the mooring lines when they filled the dry dock with water. And of course, I took the opportunity to walk around the dry dock to get a few pictures before they started to fill the dry dock with water. I remember that I was quite busy with my WEB SHIP back then and I needed pictures of our draft marks and the marking of the anchor chain for my web page.

During the afternoon I checked around 2nd officers files in the computer regarding our safety equipment. We keep files on everything onboard so it's easy to check what's missing in our fire stations. Those lists are very good to have, especially when you are new onboard. You don't know what and where when it is time to check the equipment for the first time.

AB stand-by on the fo'c's'le

At 5 o'clock they told us that the engine wasn't ready. We had to wait until 0430 the next morning. The ferries started to arrive to Fredrikshamn at 7 o'clock and we should be out of the dry dock before that. The ferry jetty is just outside the dry dock. So there is no space to get out if there is a ferry at the terminal. Well, anyway, we had to stand down from the fo'c's'le, no filling today so we can as well do something else.

+++++++++++++++
Monday 21st of June 2004
and they called me at 4 o'clock in the morning and I was on deck after a hot shower. It was very cold outside and there wasn't anything around to remind me about the summer. We left the dry dock and we were alongside the jetty 0630 or something like that and the worker from the shipyard could continue the work.

We received our MOB boat in the morning. The MOB was lifted onboard with a shore crane. The yard workers cleaned the ship during the morning and I hope we will be ready to leave today. It's always nice to leave a shipyard behind.

We cannot eat lunch onboard because they are painting the kitchen. We have to eat at the shipyards cantina, well, I went to my cabin instead listening to some music.

At 1245 I went down to see our Lloyds Inspector. We were to check all of our fire fighting equipment. We tested the emergency fire pump, smoke alarms and he wanted to see our foam in action. He was satisfied with everything and then I was off to give a familiarization tour to our new Motorman.

Our Cook could not make any dinner so they brought dinner from the cantina just after 5 o'clock and then I was off for a shower and my power nap. ETD 2200 and I needed some sleep, I'm on watch between 12-4 and it's very dangerous to stay up for 24 hours and to spend the last 4 of the 24 hours driving a ship.

I was called for at 2140 and we left Fredrikshamn 10 o'clock in the evening of the 21st of June. It was so nice to leave the shipyard behind. Now it was only bunkering to do before we could continue our voyage to England. We will meet a bunker barge outside Skagen.

+++++++++++++++
Tuesday 22nd of June 2004
and we had 30 minutes to go to the bunker area outside Skagen when I came on my watch at midnight.
- It's nice weather, the AB on my watch said.
It had been raining all day long, but now it looked OK.
- Yeah yeah, let's see when we arrive to the anchorage, I said.
Well, we went forward to the fo'c's'le and the rain started. We dropped our anchor, check out my web ship about anchoring and stuff. My web ship now features exciting videos and more explanatory pictures than ever before. Very instructive and informative.

I was up on the bridge just after 1 o'clock. Bunker boat Buna should arrive at 3 o'clock.
Buna called me 0210 and first thing they asked:
- What's your security level onboard?
This is what anti terror has come to. I wonder what security level they had in Fredrikshamn, they for sure had nice signs in the port. I'm sure they will keep the terrorists away. The bunker boat Aladdin's adventure onboard M/T Bro Jupiter back in 2004arrived at 0325 and I was off to bed at 4 o'clock and I slept until 1115 when they called me for lunch.

When I came on bridge just before 12 o'clock it was nice weather and we had security level 1. Good!! No terrorists around.

I don't know what soccer tournament it was but it was time for soccer in the evening, Sweden against Denmark. The game started at 2045 and some of the real enthusiasts had brought the yellow match shirt of the Swedish team. It was a tight match. First half of the match we had good reception but at 2nd half the TV picture disappeared at times. But we could see the end, 2-2 and Sweden and Denmark could advance in the tournament. Italy and Bulgaria ended 2-1 so they were down and out.

When the match was over it was 2230 and I went to my cabin. I had time to update my web page and read a magazine about digital photography before my watch at midnight.

+++++++++++++++
Wednesday 23rd of June 2004
and ship time was adjusted 1 hour back on my night watch. So at 2 o'clock the clock was 1 o'clock, English time. 5 hours of watch and it was nice to go to bed.

I woke up by myself at 11:20, I have told them to wake me up at 1140. That gives me 20 minutes Aladdin's adventure onboard M/T Bro Jupiter back in 2004for shower and no time for eating and that's good for my diet.

As said, we adjusted ships time to English time and when I woke up at 1120 new ship time it was like sleeping 1 hour extra. I went down to the mess room after my shower, I found out that it was Raggmunk for lunch. My favourite! We will get Kålpudding for dinner, another favourite! I'm better of going straight to the bridge after my shower avoiding the mess room at all costs

Well, anyway, in the afternoon we got headwind force 9 and when I was off my watch we did
Aladdin's adventure onboard M/T Bro Jupiter back in 20043 knots. We had a Cadet onboard and she was sea sick, she spent the whole watch in the chair on the bridge looking miserable. And those of you that follow our hero's adventure recognise her. This is the very same girl that came onboard with the Pilot Boat when we arrived to Norrköping, Sweden when we arrived from Canada January 2009. She came onboard to visit me and she brought Diet drinks for me. And a stupid diet book.

It was a pleasant surprise, and what an initiative. She follows Aladdin's adventure and she knew that I was out of diet drinks. She also knew that we were bound for Norrköping and she contacted the Pilots and she came onboard as a surprise. But where did I put the diet book? And I really promised her to follow that diet.

Aladdin's adventure onboard M/T Bro Jupiter back in 2004
How sea sick can you get

There wasn't very much for me to do in this weather so I did the 2 CDs for Security Officers. I was happy when I was ready, it took me about 5 hours. Well, I did the first CD and when it was time to register the result something happened. No result was recorded so I had to do it again.

When I was ready I found out that I needed to do 3 exercises as well. Hmm, I have to plan an attack on the ship and perform 1 drill. I also have to find a port security officer and fill up a DOS (Declaration Of Security) with him.

+++++++++++++++
Friday 25th of June 2004
and we had all fast in Fawley just after midnight. There was a Facility Security Officer and we filled up my form. 2 exercises to go, I have to plan an attack against the ship. Hmm, I think I will hijack the ship and take the ship to Sue

We started to load the Carbon Black Feedstock at 0319, rate approx 400m³/h and it will take us until Saturday morning to complete the loading.

+++++++++++++++
Saturday 26th of June 2004
and we left Fawley at 12:20. It was gloomy and grey and wind force 4-5. It was a good day for sailing and there was a sailing race going on so on the way to the pilot station we meet millions of sailing boats. I think it was a race around Isle of Wight. We're leaving Fawley pilot east of Isle of Wight and we meet all the sailboats coming from the east.

I could see a very high tower when passing Portsmouth. It was a light blue tower and it was the highest building you could see. Much higher than the surrounding city center. It looked like a giant water chute, the kind they have at adventure lands and water parks, but much much higher. Next to it was a very high construction crane, so obvious they were building on the tower
- Mr. Pilot! What is that high tower? I asked.
- That's the millennium tower.
- ????!!!!!
- Yeah, the building is slightly delayed, he said.
I could not help it, but I had to say:
- Don't give up! There is soon a new millennium coming up.
I asked the pilot about the tower. The plan was to have a revolving restaurant on the top (170M).
- Now they are only going to have a platform from which people can watch the view, he said.
He told me that the tower had cost 4 times more than calculated and only God now when it will be ready. Yeah yeah, as 1 Captain said (I think it was on M/T Navigo) to the English pilot when coming to England.
- It's very tiresome with the time difference between England and the rest of Europe.
Aladdin's adventure onboard M/T Bro Jupiter back in 2004- It's only 1 hour, the pilot said.
- Yeah, but it's 100 years as well.

Well, we left the pilot 1340 and we changed course to south and at NAB tower we changed course to southwest.

While steaming to SW there was a helicopter approaching us and when the helicopter was hovering above us the noise made it impossible to talk on the bridge.

The asked if they could land a man on our ship. The rescue helicopters do this time to time for practice. The rescue man come up to the bridge for a talk before he left again with the helicopter.

I hope that was it with adventure for my watch. I made some tea and enjoyed the rest of the watch. I was relieved by our new 2nd Officer (from Skåne) 4 o'clock. He signed on in Fawley and it was his first time on a tanker, I think he was fresh from school.

I meet him again several years later, and he was in Bangkok visiting me. But he told me that he Aladdin's adventure onboard M/T Bro Jupiter back in 2004was happy that I was onboard staying behind after my watch to give him a few pointers.

The Chief Officer, Tröttskallen just left him alone in the CCR. Well, not easy the first time and he told me that he was grateful that I stayed behind to teach him a thing or two about tankers.

I was busy after my watch with new muster list and changes to the “Welcome onboard” map in the cabins. There is a “Welcome onboard” map in every cabin, explaining what every crew member should do in case of emergency and other stuff about the ship.

At 5 o'clock it was dinner, it was midsummer dinner. It was midsummer yesterday, but we were alongside so our Cook made the dinner today instead. I asked the Cook what he thought about the soccer tonight between Sweden and Holland.
- 7 of 11 players are from Skåne, I said.
- Uh!!! They can sell Skåne to Denmark.
- Uh!!! Skåne will sink in to the sea when the tunnel in Hallandsåsen is ready.
He was busy trying to impress the rest of the crew in the mess room. Well I reminded him of earlier today. When he called me:
- Psst! Aladdin come here!
- What the do you want?
- My ancestors is coming from Skåne, our Cook told me
- Impressive
He had forgotten all about that during the dinner. Well, anyway, we were sitting eating Aladdin's adventure onboard M/T Bro Jupiter back in 2004strawberries and stuff and blah-blah and it was no use to start any work after the dinner.

I went to my cabin and I updated my web page and at 20:30 I went down in the mess room for the soccer game.

At full time it was 0-0 and it ended with victory for Holland after penalty shooting.
- Well, as I said, Denmark will win the tournament, I said.

When we watched Sweden - Denmark I was the only one hopping for Danish victory. It's boring to watch if everyone is cheering on the same team. Hmm, our Cook looked gloomy and grey when he left for his cabin in his yellow team shirt.
- Cheer up!! Denmark will win tomorrow, I said.

+++++++++++++++
Sunday 27th of June 2004
and we were just south the island Lundy and west of Hartland Point when I came on my afternoon watch. This is just SW of Bristol Bay. I had been on watch for a Aladdin's adventure onboard M/T Bro Jupiter back in 2004while when we had to stop our engine, there was a problem with the fuel injector, or whatever it was.

We had ETA to Bristol pilot 1600, but we had to be there around 2 o'clock to be able to go in on the high water. Even without the stop we would have to drop our anchor.

During the afternoon our new 2nd Officer was on the bridge, there is plenty to study for a new 2nd officer. We had time for a safety round around the ship during the day as well, I'm the Safety Officer and I will introduce all new crew members to our safety equipments onboard.

We had full speed again at 1730 and we dropped our anchor at 2120 at Bristol pilot station in the Aladdin's adventure onboard M/T Bro Jupiter back in 2004evening and Pilot should come onboard at midnight. It will be a long night again and I took the opportunity for an afternoon nap.

I woke up at 2100 and I went down to the Mess room after my shower to see the soccer game.

Denmark was losing and I was disappointed. Well, no need to worry about the soccer anymore when Denmark is out of the tournament.

Well, if there is no soccer I have time for other more important things, so I did my laundry and some paper work. I had time for my web page before my watch at midnight.

+++++++++++++++
Monday 28th of June 2004
and we had 2 more shackles to heave up on the anchor when I came on my watch at midnight. The Pilot was onboard at 00:10 and we had all fast in Avonmout 0345 after Aladdin's adventure onboard M/T Bro Jupiter back in 2004passing the lock.

Yo! Where is the summer? When I came on deck 2 o'clock preparing for Avonmouth lock it was freezing cold. The weather had been miserable weather since I joined the ship in Fredrikshamn. Soon July and cold like October. Well, it was nice to go to my bed at 5 o'clock. A warm bed and my nice dreams Aladdin's adventure onboard M/T Bro Jupiter back in 2004about Sue. The only thing warming me in this bitterly cold weather is my daily e-mail(s) from Sue.

We will discharge the Carbon Black feedstock that we loaded in Fawley here in Avonmouth. And if you are interested in what they are using the Carbon Black feedstock for, well, this is your lucky day. I asked the pilot on the way up to Avonmouth.
- They mix it in the rubber when they make tires. It makes the rubber black and strengthens the rubber.

I was called for at 1140, Monday morning, time for my watch again. Discharging was in full swing, rate about 460m³/h and we expect to be ready tomorrow lunch.

I had to hang around for a few hours after my watch, we have a new 2nd Officer onboard. If he needed any help I should stay around, well, I had plenty paper work to do so I could as well do this work around CCR (next door) in our computer room.

The engine department was going ashore so I sent some money with them. But first I had to go to the Captain for some cash, 40 £.
- Can you please buy some diet coke on the way back? I asked.
I will see if they manage to get me the drinks tonight. Now it's time to upload my web page.

I had no success in anything that evening. No connection to the internet and I could not fall asleep. Hmm, I will try the internet after my watch 4 o'clock tomorrow morning again.

+++++++++++++++
Tuesday 29th of June 2004
and I went off my watch at 4 o'clock and I was without success with the internet. I started to make a movie from our CCR and at 05:30 it was time to go to the CCR to help our new 2nd Officer to strip cargo tanks. Chief Officer just leaving the new guy alone in the CCR and I felt sorry for him. So I told him to call me.
- I can kill time with my web page so I will not go to sleep.

When I came on my watch 12 o'clock we were almost ready with the discharging. I called my phone company and they should arrange GPRS service for my mobile phone for me. So now I can update my web page almost every day with high speed. Well, nothing is as easy as it sounds. It took several calls to the company before I could finally upload my web page to the internet after our departure.

We left Avonmouth at 1630 and we left the lock just after 5 o'clock. Time for dinner and I'm off to my cabin for a shower and to try my new GPRS connection.

I managed to connect to the internet and then I continued with my movie. Well, I learnt 1 thing about movie making, it takes talent. Well, make it 2 things, I don't have any talent. But Hey! No one is holding a gun to your temple forcing you to see the movie.

And as usually, there is no million in reward for those realizing that broadband makes the viewing experience much better. Well, downloading time will be much shorter any way.

+++++++++++++++
Wednesday 30th of June 2004
and our night watch was very short, 3 hours. We were adjusting ship time to French time, so at 2 o'clock we advanced the clock to 3 o'clock I don't know how I managed to do it, but when I adjusted the time the clock started to work backwards. I was looking at the clock.
- Should be 4 o'clock soon, I thought.
What! When I watched the clock it was before 3 o'clock and the clock went back. 15 minutes before I noticed. What the ? It was about to be the longest watch I had ever been on. Eventually the time became 4 o'clock in the morning and I was off for my beauty nap.

We had planned for a fire drill on the way to Avonmouth, but as you know they were busy in the engine room. So we were going to have the fire drill in the afternoon. After the fire drill we went to the bridge for debriefing. I took the opportunity to take a picture of the crew, kind of tradition now. I wish that I had done the same on all my ships.

Aladdin's adventure onboard M/T Bro Jupiter
Well...

And as we had used the BA set during the fire drill I was busy refilling the BA sets after my watch. I also finished the work hours for the crew for the month of June.

In the evening I did a bomb search onboard the ship together with the AB on 8-12 watch. My last drill for my anti terrorist certificate. I had asked the AB and the Cadet on 4-8 watch to hide a milk carton on deck. Hmm, after 1 hour 40 minutes we gave up. It was impossible to find the carton.

If we can't find a milk carton then I can imagine looking for something we don't know what it looks like, seems impossible. Yeah, this time it was an empty milk carton and we are 1 experience richer. We arrived to Le Havre anchorage at 11 o'clock in the evening 30th of June. I had got e-mails from Sue and she told me that the video was missing on my page. So I uploaded my web page before the shower and I was off for my night watch.

+++++++++++++++
Thursday 1st of July 2004
and we were anchored when I came on my watch at midnight. From midnight the ISPS code should be in full force and Port Jerome oil terminal have security level 2. They start on a high level. I tried to upload my video again when I came off my watch. Before going onwatch I gave it a few tries but without any success. After 350 MB the connection took a time out and it was just to start all over again. So we can imagine how my phone bill looked like.

When I came home I had an 1000 or 2000 US$ bill waiting for me. They told me that it would be “ALMOST” for free to use my Internet abroad.
- Same price as when you use your phone in Sweden.
Well, obviously not. But I must give it to TELIA. When I came home to my bill I Aladdin's adventure onboard M/T Bro Jupitercalled TELIA and I got my money back.

Pilot boarding time was changed from 0530 to 0730. Our jetty will be available at 10 o'clock. Hmm, let's see what happens, nothing is never for sure in the shipping business.

As I said, nothing is for sure. When I came on my afternoon watch 1st of July we were still at the anchorage. Pilot expected to board us at 18:45. When I relieved Chief Officer on the bridge he told me that the terminal had gone down to security level 1.

I could hear our engine start just after 6 o'clock in the evening when I was in my cabin, so finally we will go alongside.

Well, I must have doze off because I woke up when they called me 8 o'clock in the evening, time to go on deck for the arrival. Just 10 minutes before arriving we meet Fure Star, I was running for my camera in my cabin and then I was on monkey island in 2 steps. I got a few good pictures for my web page with ship pictures. And as we can see on the picture it was a gloomy and grey evening, but with some sunshine.

We're meeting M/T Fure Star on River Seine

We had all fast at 21:30 and I had time for a shower before my watch at midningt. But before my shower I checked my e-mail and the inbox was brimmed with e-mail from Sue.

+++++++++++++++
Friday 2nd of July 2004
and the cargo operation was stopped when I came on watch at midnight, they had started 23:50 but they stopped at 2355 due to problem ashore. At 0030 we resumed loading, 1000m³/h and we estimate to be ready in the afternoon.

After my watch I went to the laundry room and picked up my laundry, I also took an extra pillow for my bed. But I could not go to bed, I had to introduce our new 2nd Officer to the secret of topping of tanks.
We also had a technician from SAAB onboard, she will stay onboard until England and check our SAAB radars. She wants a call when we are topping off cargo tank 3 and when we start load in 4P/S. No sleep, but I'm burning calories like there is no tomorrow.

Finally at 0545 we had topped 1P/S and 3CT and I was off to my bed.

I asked them to reduce the rate at 1400, when we had 300m³ to go. They stopped the loading because, well, I don't know.
- We will send down our jetty man in 15 minutes and he will run the pump from the jetty.
At 1420 they told me that they were resuming loading, hmm, at 1435 they told me that they had started the pump. Nothing is coming in our cargo tanks.

While waiting I had a chat with the Surveyor's “handyman ”. I asked how far the closet shopping center was.
- 10KM, but speak English “peu ti peu ”, he said.
Pue ti pue, I need diet coke. But our Motorman and Cadet had been in the village and the brought post card and diet coke for me.

Well, anyway, the service team arrived to the scene at 1445. Helmet, goggles and life jacket on. Hands in the pocket and they walked down the jetty like they had glue under their shoes. They opened a valve or something, and finally at 1450 we could resume loading. It was just 3 tanks to top-off and 1550 we were completed.

We had got a new Captain and Cadet onboard in the morning and after my watch I took the Cadet on a safety round on the ship. After the tour we had dinner and I was off to my cabin and my web page. I put my diet cokes in my refrigerator and they will be cool for my watch at midnight. A long watch coming up, we have to adjust our ship time to English time, 1 hour back.

At 2030 my phone rang.
- We are departing at 2100.
- So what? It's Chief Officer's watch, I said.
- We are taking his watch tonight, 2nd Officer said.

What the ! STCW 95 with 14 hours work in a 24 hours period, I'm over the limit. Aladdin's adventure onboard M/T Bro JupiterWell, Chief Officer worked a few hours in the afternoon and now he wants to spend the evening in his cabin. OK, now I know how it works on this ship. No more sitting with the new 2nd Officer in the CCR after my watches so Chief Officer can sleep until 8 o'clock. I did it just to be nice, but no more Mr. Nice guy. Yeah, this Chief Officer was something else.

We left Port Jerome at 21:15 and I had a few laughs with the new Captain on the way down the river to the pilot station.

+++++++++++++++
Saturday 3rd of July 2004
and we left the pilot behind at 0020. Retarding ships time so it is almost 5 hours to go before I can have my power nap.

When I came on my afternoon watch 3rd of July we had dropped our anchor just WSW of Nab Tower. Yes, I could see the millennium Tower in Portsmouth. They are still working on the darn thing. Our new Captain was on the bridge, he's always ready to pull out a cock-and-bull story from his sleeve. Well, it's nice, there is always time for a laugh and we're having fun. That's what the ship needs.

I like people that are up to larks, like our Cook. We had had a good time and we're always joking and laughing.

After 1 o'clock we started to drag our anchor. Just a little and the anchor chain slacked out in a lash due to strong wind. I was on the fo'c's'le with my AB in 2 steps. We tighten the anchor brake and we could enjoy the rest of the afternoon with no disturbance. It was blowing force 6-7 but the weather forecast promised decreasing to force 4. We see about that, weather prediction is just a guess work.

After my watch it was time to do the inventory of the chemical station, but first I tried the alarm in the kitchen with our Cook. He has alarm in the store rooms if he got stuck in there.
- If you're getting lost it's just to press the button. You have plenty strawberries to last until we come and get you out of here, I said.

Well, I didn't have time to complete the inventory before dinner. So I will have something to do tomorrow as well. It's nice to know that there is something FUN waiting for you.

When the Cook was ready in the Kitchen he came to my cabin. He wanted to look at the pictures and Niclas, Ann Louise & Krisse. Kockenvideo I had been taking of him. It was Saturday and it was party in the air so we had diet cokes and a good time. AB on my watch came by and he got a coke as well.

While sitting there AB on duty and the Cadet came by.
- Are you having a party? We could hear the noise all the way down to poop deck, they said.
- Come on in!

Well, at 2130 they left me alone and I could write a little something on my web page. I can upload it when we are getting alongside in Fawley. Sue is waiting for new updates.

Latest news is that we will go alongside tomorrow afternoon. WE SEE WHAT HAPPENS!

Sunday 4th of July 2004
and it was blowing force 3 frm West when I came on my watch at midnight. There were still some swell, but it was nice weather. After my watch I had time for a quick glance in an old computer magazine. I had a nice sleep until 1140 when it was time for my shower. I went straight to the bridge without passing the mess room.

At 1230 I went to the fo'c's'le and we started to heave up our anchor. Hmm, I must admit that I passed the kitchen on the way back to the bridge. A quick hello to the Cook and a VERY small plate of lasagne.

We picked up the pilot around 1345. I offered him some coffee and he offered men the latest news about the millennium tower when we passed the tower.
- They found out that the concrete is so bad so it's possible that they have to tear down the whole lot again, he said.
I will keep you updated with the latest developments regarding this tower. Keep an eye out on aladdin.st.

Around 1530 we had all fast at EXXON jetty #2 and the old Captain went home. I asked the agent if there was any shops open in Fawley on Sundays where I can buy magazines and soda.
- There is a convenient store open.
I went ashore with the AB on my watch. We called a bus to pick us up on the jetty. We are not allowed to walk around on the terminal.

We waited for a few minutes and the buss arrived. We loaded our trolley on the bus and off we went. firs he checked our passports. We stopped to pick up another guy before leaving for the gate. The driver asked our new passenger for his ID.
- I don't have any of the new IDs, but I have an application.
- Hmm, they must have stepped up the security a notch or two, I thought for myself.

I cannot show you any pictures from the bus because he told me that I was not allowed to take any pictures in the bus. But it was OK to take pictures of a ship that we passed.
I was disappointed because as you know, aladdin.st is the web site to visit if you want to know ALL about the life on the ship. But you can imagine us sitting in this mini bus with our trolley.
It was a 3 minutes ride to the gate and we showed our passports again.

It was a 5 minutes' walk to the village if we used the short-cut. This was the much spoken about short-cut. The pilot told me about this short cut, the bus driver and the security guard in the gate. Every one spoke about this short-cut like it was as important to mankind as the wheel. - Just walk down the road and enter the gate at the church.
- Yeah! Thanks!
We walked the 100m to the gate and we crossed a soccer field and we were in Fawley village center, population 300. No people in sight, but I'm sure we saved us selves 2 minutes by using the short-cut. 2 minutes, give and take a few seconds, anyway the difference between walking around and crossing the field.
We arrived to a place called “The Square” and the action started. There was 3 cars passing us and an old lady came out from a building.

There was a hotel at the square and we found the convenient store in a jiff. I had a shopping list from 2nd Officer and Captain. Captain needed a lighter and 2nd Officer wanted some “light” chocolate.
- Do you have any diet coke?, I asked the shop owner.
- Yes! How many do you want? We have plenty!
- I don't know, fill up the trolley, I said.
We negotiated the price (me bargain) and he ran out of soda before we had filled the trolley. We took all his diet cokes and we even had to fill up boxes with cans and bottles. We bought a few computer magazines and post cards before leaving the shop behind.

We were to encounter more action on the way back to the gate, 3 kids on roller blades and I don't think we would have been able to handle more excitement sin one day. It took us about 5 minutes to walk back to the gate and the mini bus was waiting for us. Back at the ship we took onboard the coke and it was time for my shower.

We had not started discharging when we came back. Discharging and loading at the same jetty so they expect us to stay here in Fawley for about 3 days. I hope I can upload my web page tonight or tomorrow morning after my watch. I must try to upload my CCR video again, it's a 1,5 MB file and my FTP program takes “Time out” after 3-400 KB, frustrating.

Tonight it's the soccer final Greece-Portugal. So it will be crowded in the mess in front of the TV. Captain has been talking about this game since he came onboard. I hope both teams lose.

I received e-mail from Sue. She sent me a picture, and yes, I'm sure she likes Garfield. She loves cats anyway and she have a couple of them. Receiving her e-mail means instant good mood and instant good mood is much better than instant noodles tryint to eat myself happy.

I also got e-mail from our other Cook. He's on holiday in Västervik, visiting the other Cook you have seen on my web page while making Kålpudding. But honestly, the best Kålpudding I ever had was on this ship 2 weeks ago. Anyway, I will see if I can make him beat the Cook onboard when he signs on. The big Kålpudding contest, the winner will be highly commended and his name will be honoured on aladdin.st. Not bad, let the fight start.

Well, no success with uploading my video. I sent the video with e-mail to my web server and I hope the video will be available for you to see tomorrow.

Monday 5th of July 2004
and the discharging operation was in full swing when I came on my watch at midnight. I had a few diet sodas during my watch and I enjoyed the night. Our AB on the 4-8 watch came down in the CCR just after 3 o'clock for a chat.

Aladdin's adventure onboard M/T Bro Jupiter
Early morning visitor in the CCR

We talked about times passed by a long time ago and time turned quick. Just before I was off my watch the agent came onboard and he wanted to know what time we started discharging etc. As per the ISPS manual I asked for his ID.
He showed me a piece of plastic with his name and picture printed on it. If you were coming to the bank with an ID like that they would kick you out. I can make a fake ID like that for 1$.

It was nice to go off my watch. I received e-mails from Sue. Hmm, no good news. It was about how hard it was with me and the ships and a sailor is walking his own path. Just what I need, now it will be easy to fall asleep after a long tiresome watch.

We completed discharging at 3 o'clock in the afternoon 5th of July. We should load the Carbon Black Feedstock at the same jetty, we did not even have to disconnect the cargo hose. We are loading through the same hose and on the same manifold.

After my watch I added our new Cadet to our onboard training program. We have plenty CD ROMs to Aladdin's adventure onboard M/T Bro Jupiterstudy and after each CD there are questions to answer. He started with the CD “Gas measurements” and he was very enthusiastic. I left him with the CD and I went to check all the fire extinguishers in the engine room and accommodation.

I was still in a bad mood after Sue's e-mail about sailors and how hard it is to follow a sailor. But that was not enough, today I got e-mail that I never had understood her and other stuff to pep me up.

I got e-mail from my web hotel, they asked for my user name and password so they can upload my web video. I think you should go straight back to the video player and try it out.

When I got on my watch at midnight loading were in full swing, approx 400 m³/h. I heard the latest rumours about next voyage, loading in Dunges, France for Immingham or Hamburg. Well, this can be changed many times before we are ready with discharging in Bordeaux. Let's see.

+++++++++++++++
Tuesday 6th of July 2004
and I was in good mood again when I went off my watch at 4 o'clock in the morning. My inbox was brimmed with e-mail from Sue. Yeah, I understand she's disappointed when I was supposed to go home in July, then I changed to August and now it will be September after my fire fighting course. But she understood and now she was, well, not happy again but not angry. So it will be nice to come home again.

6th of July and it was sunshine, first time since I came onboard we had a full day with sun. I spent the afternoon in the CCR and after my watch I finished the rest of the fire extinguishers and I did the MOB boat. This stuff we have to do on a monthly basis.

I checked my e-mail and there was e-mail from Sue. But all the e-mail I sent this morning got a delivery failure message. Hmm, I have to send them all over again.
I spent the evening with the Cook in my cabin. We made a video for the web and I hope I can upload it. So far I haven't had any luck with my CCR video. So let's see.

We estimate to be ready with the loading at 2200 and departure around midnight. It's about 48 hours from Fawley to Bordeaux so no uploading of my web page for a few days. Aladdin's adventure onboard M/T Bro JupiterBut at least you have something to look forward to.

Our AB on the 4-8 watch got e-mail from his wife and she had been on my page. Her comment was:
- You look unshaved.
Her husband that is, not me.

When connecting to internet I got e-mail from my web hotel. The CCR video is uploaded for you to enjoy!
As no surprise it was not possible to upload the video I did with the Cook. I sent it via e-mail to my web hotel, so hopefully you can see it tomorrow.

I expected loading to be ready when I came on my watch at midnight. Actually I had expected us to leave, if not before, at midnight. Well, they had more cargo for us. It seems like they never know how much cargo there is in the shore tanks.

+++++++++++++++
Wednesday 7th of July 2004
and they called me at 00:50.
- Our shore tank is empty. No more cargo for you.
Pilot ordered for 3 o'clock and we left just after 3 o'clock, but we we're not bound for Bordeaux. Cargo was off spec and they needed further laboratory analysis of the cargo before sending it to Bordeaux. So we have to drop anchor while they do the analysis of the cargo. If were unlucky we have to go back in and discharge the cargo again.

Well, we see tomorrow. Maybe they have to find another buyer of the cargo and that means a new destination. We will find out sooner or later.

Now it's 4 o'clock in the morning and I will upload my web page before my much needed power nap. So far the video I and our Cook spent so much time doing hadn't been uploaded. I hope they will put things in motion at my web hotel tomorrow and upload the darn thing.

Aladdin's adventure onboard M/T Bro Jupiter
Our 2nd Officer from Skåne

When I came on my watch at noon 7th of July we just passed NAB tower and we had left the pilot behind. Analysis was done and the cargo was approved and we steamed toward Bordeaux. The weather was OK in the afternoon, wind coming in from behind when we steamed SW.

After dinner Captain opened the slop chest. Our Cadet had been nagging about chocolate. Well, when it's open I can as well check it out. I bought a bag of Dumle, toffee covered with milk chocolate.
- Hey! Cookie, what about a movie tonight?
- I'm coming!
- I will wait with the Cadet in the dayroom, I said.
I brought my chocolate and we started the movie. I did what I could to give away the chocolate. But I had to leave half of it in the dayroom.

+++++++++++++++
Thursday 8th of July 2004
and when I came on my watch at midnight it was blowing force 8-9 from NNW. This summer will go to the history as the nicest ever.

At 2 o'clock we adjusted ships time to French time and ipsi wipsi wu it was 3 o'clock. I had time to call the Oussant Traffic before going off my watch. It was nice to leave the bridge for my bed. I could not fall asleep so I was reading comics and I hadn't got very much sleep when our Cook called me:
- Time for meatballs!
What the Yo!! I'm not eating lunch, but I understand that he feels lonely. Well, no use trying to sleep again so I went to the shower.
- What the ? No water!!
Hmm, if I don't get my shower I will be moody. Later on I found out that they had turned off the water while working on a water pipe. They are installing a new washing machine so they had turned off the water

When I came on the bridge at noon we had the wind force 8 from astern and we kept course straight on Bordeaux pilot station. ETA 2 o'clock in the morning 9th of July.
Our Cook has a friend turning 50 on Friday so we will try to send our video to him when arriving to Bordeaux. Well, our Cook have been busy trying to teach me how to do Skånsk apple-pie, I'm waiting for the day when he will teach me how to speak Skånska.

The last few days when I have opened my e-mail in box, ship address, the inbox have been full of “Message delivery failure”, I don't know if Sue gets my e-mail. 2nd Engineer has the same problem and maybe it's time to use my own e-mail again.

I spent some time with my web ship in the evening. I wrote a little about draft and stuff and I updated the page with pictures from the shipyard in Fredrikshamn. Always busy and it was soon midnight and time for my watch.

+++++++++++++++
Friday 9th of July 2004
and the wind was gone when I came on my watch at midnight. But still heavy swell from astern. We had ETA 04:15 at BXA L/B at La Gironde River. I called them at 01:15 ant they told me that pilot will board us at 07:30 with helicopter. I called Captain at 03:00 and he came on the bridge. We cracked a few jokes and told some Sailors yarn. Due to heavy swell we didn't dropped our anchor while waiting for the pilot. Slow steaming outside La Girone until 07:30, and, well, I was off to my bed at 4 o'clock.

Before my well needed sleep I tried to connect to the internet, but the signal was very weak and I gave up. I do it tomorrow night.

I was called for at 1140 for my watch as normally.
- We arrive at 12 o'clock, they told me.
So after my shower I went straight on deck. Here we use 2 of our own ropes for spring lines and 3 big wires from the bottom of the river as head and breast lines.
When I came down to the mess it was bright sunshine when I looked out over the river. La Gironde was a huge river and we were surrounded by forest, it was like in the middle of Africa. Well, when we opened the door and stepped out on deck it started to rain. Is that typical or what?

We started to discharge at 1530 and after 5-10 minutes our AB told us that there was a leak on the jetty. We stopped discharging and Chief Officer called the jetty.
- EXXON Control Room! We have stopped discharging! There is a leak on the jetty!
- Oh!! What??!!
- There is a pipe open and the oil goes straight in the river!
- You want fresh water?
We realised that their English left a little to wish for. They had left a valve open to a drain pipe and the cargo went in the river. Well, there should be a man on the jetty checking all the pipes when we start pumping. Hmm, if it would have been the ship causing the spill you can be sure the place had been crowded with police and all kind of people.
When we have EXXON vetting they are very concerned about the environment.
- Ahh! A plastic bottle in the bin for paper garbage! Serious stuff!

Well, they closed the valve and we continued discharging. I had other things to worry about, all e-mails sent from the ship comes back as a “Delivery Failure Message” and Sue haven't got any e-mail for quite a few days. I will start using my own e-mail again so I can keep her updated on how important she is for me.

I felt asleep in the evening, I rarely sleep in the evening, but now it was like I was knocked. When I woke up I had a quick shower and I went down in the CCR relieving Chief Officer at 2230. Yeah, I had nothing else to do so I could as well take part of the action in the CCR

So now all the people in Askersund can see her picture on my web page. I hope they enjoy it. But I obviously didn't keep the original picture so we will have to stick with the ORIGINAL 2004 picture. Well, it is better than nothing and it have been on the web page for 8 years already so let's keep it for another 100.
- I also took a video of the pilot coming with the helicopter this morning.
- Yeah, bring it on.
- I will upload the video after my watch so tomorrow all your friends can see your movie.

and I hadn't manage to get any sleep when they called me for my afternoon watch. It was just impossible to sleep. I blame it on my evening nap yesterday. AB Aladdin's adventure onboard M/T Bro Jupiteron my watch suggested that I drank to much diet coke. Well, he has a point there and I'm trying to sell my coke. But no one is interested in my coke. Yeah, after spending 100£ and going through all the trouble carrying them back onboard in Fawley I will finish my coke and then it's no more. Hmm, maybe I can have a can at a festival day or a day of rejoicing. But maximum a few (very few) per year. Well, enough of that.

I had my shower and I went down to the mess room. Chief Officer told me that Pilot was ordered for 13:00. Good, I joined the rest of the crew for lunch. As you know I usually skip lunch but I just had to take the opportunity to eat when I could sit together with the rest of the crew. We're always joking and larking about in the mess room. Especially our Cook and Cadet like to be up to mischief.

It was sunshine and I understand that you don't believe me but again, as soon as we sat foot on deck it started to rain. What is this? Pilot came onboard at 1 o'clock and we started to let go our wires, 1 by 1 and we left Bordeaux at 13:55 10th of July. I was on the bridge watching the wine yards while passing them on the river. We expect to leave the pilot at 1800 and ETA Saint-Nazaire pilot 03:00 11th of July. It's about 1,5 to 2 hours up the Loire River to Donges.

Captain is happy when his printer is working

After my watch I had to pass Captain's cabin on the way down to my cabin.
- Yo! Aladdin! Hold your horses!
He needed some help with his printer settings.
- It takes me 1 day to print a page, he said.
I made the necessarily adjustments and he was ready to go. A pleasure to help him out, it was very fun to work with him. If it would have been an a-hole.
- Printer?? What is that?
Well, anyway, when I left his cabin I told him to watch out! The printer will be like a machine gun.

He was very happy when I left his cabin and I was down to my computer. I connected to internet and I got e-mail from Sue. Well, looks like I had finally managed to get my e-mails through to her. “My mailbox is almost exploding now ” she wrote. I was happy to hear that.

I had a quick nap after the dinner and when I woke up I went down in the dayroom watching the end of a movie our Cook and Motorman was watching.

We got a new Chief Engineer in Bordeaux, I knew him from CT Star. He had signed off CT Star and he got a flight straight from Lisbon and signed on our ship. They sold CT Star and he will be on Bro Jupiter now. Our good Cook from CT Star will also begin on this ship, but then I will be off the ship. What a shame, we had such a good time on CT Star. The old Chief Engineer will leave us in Donges together with the 2nd Engineer and the AB on the 4-8 watch.

Well, Our AB deserves his holiday, but anyway, he's very good and he's always happy and ready for a laugh. Yeah, that's life on the ship, good crew coming and going.

and we did the last course change to north before reaching the approach to Saint-Nazaire when I came on my watch at midnight. Steering 360° towards the SN1 L/B. I changed course to NE when I reached the SN1 L/B at 0130. There were sailing boats in the approach channel and as usually they didn't gave way for us.
I don't understand these people, if I were sitting in a small sailboat I would keep far away from big ships and traffic lanes. But no, they must follow the traffic lanes instead of enjoying the view near the coast line. And I would have been sitting at the marina with a cold beer in the wee hours and not be sailing around big tankers 3 o'clock in the morning.

When passing the SN1 L/B we had 1 hour to the pilot, I called the pilot and gave them my ETA. I had to report that I was passing the SN1 L/B as well. I called 2nd Engineer and Captain as well.

I had a few laughs with Captain before pilot came onboard at 0240. We expected to be alongside just after 4 o'clock in the morning.
- We have to wait for the mooring men and watch man and we can't go alongside before 0430, the Pilot said.
We had all fast at 0515 and when we were ready on deck I went for a shower and then I uploaded my web page and sent e-mail to Sue before my nap.

When I came on my afternoon watch 11th of July we were loading with a rate of approx 440m³/h. They told us that they would give us a 1000m³/h and that we could leave Donges late evening. Now it looks like tomorrow afternoon.

Our Cook and Cadet had been ashore to buy some provision. They came back with strawberries and fresh bread. I was surprised when our Captain came in to the CCR with fresh bread for me. 1 with cheese and 1 with blueberry jam, yummy!!
- THANK'S FOR F@CKING UP MY DIET!!!

Well, it was nice to go off my watch. I had to put up new muster lists and crew lists. We got a new Aladdin's adventure onboard M/T Bro JupiterAB, Mess man and 2nd Engineer onboard this morning.

After the dinner I went for my nap. I didn't manage to fall asleep this morning again and I had just 1 coke in the evening, hmm, and 1 on my morning watch.

We decided to watch a move in the day room at 8 o'clock and so I asked the Cook to call me at 2000 before I was off to my bed. Our Cook called me just after 8 o'clock and I had a quick shower before going to the day room. When I came to the day room they wanted to see the movie “ Master and Commander ” What a waste of time so I went back to my cabin to write an e-mail to Sue and to upload my web page. For sure more fun than to waste my time in front of the “ Master and Commander ”

Monday 12th of July 2004
and I had received e-mail from Sue and I have ordered an additional 25MB of space on my web hotel when I came for my watch at midnight.
It looked pretty much the same in the CCR as when I left 4 o'clock last afternoon. 3 Ct was topped-off and there wasn't very much for me to do, except for emptying DB 2P/S. We loaded 2 + 4 + 6P/S and we expect to be ready in the afternoon.
Aladdin's adventure onboard M/T Bro Jupiter
Donges

I had been working with the new AB on Stena Barbados and CT Star and I could hardly recognise him. He had lost plenty weight using the same diet powder I used to carry around.
- Maybe my powder had reached the “ Best before date ”, I suggested.
Well, anyway, he inspired me to start of my new and improved diet and I will start right off. I can't use Hälsovakten, the program won't accept my goals. I want to lose 20 kg in 2 weeks, and the only thing happening when entering the data to the program is that a warning pops up and a request to enter new data.
Well, I'm not very impressed by this expensive program promising that loosing weight have never been so easy and fun before. What a lot of crap!
I will do it my own way and I'm sure that I will see the result before soon.

When I came on my afternoon watch 12th of July the sun was shining and we were soon to be ready with the loading. I brought 2 diet cokes to the CCR and I was ready to take over the watch. We completed loading at 1340 and pilot was ordered for 1600.

After blowing our cargo lines with air I went out on deck and I checked so all our openings to the cargo tanks were closed, before leaving Donges. We don't want water to come in to our tanks in bad weather, so a tour around deck is required before departure.

I had time to check our fire hoses in the engine room before departure as well. I brought my camera and I had time for a tour in the engine room with my camera before it was time to leave Donges. I got a video when our Chief Engineer started our main engine. But I'm afraid that my videos are driving you up the wall by now so we skip the video.

It was just to push the button so it was not very exciting. But believe it or not, aladdin.st has
gone interactive. So you can start our main engine from the comfort of your home just by clicking the start button on your left side. You don't need to get sea sick to gain experience as Chief Engineer and as an extra bonus you have something to brag about next time on your local pub.
- Yeah yeah, when I was Chief Engineer and blah-blah!
The crowd will be dazzled and you will be the talk of the town. All this just 1 click away!

Talking about 1 click away, I had to cancel Sue's and my holiday in Skåne. Thanks to KLM and NWA and they have lost a business class passenger. Their frequent flyer program is not worth the name. I'm a frequent flyer with KLM/ NWA and when I applied it was the usual crap. “ Your dream holiday just 1 click away ” and “ You get free travel before soon
It didn't take me long to become a Silver elite member and with my silver card I should be allowed an extra 10 kg of luggage. As no surprise I had to pay for the overweight. I thought that I had access to KLM/ NWA lounges as a gold card holder. They throw me out and after 15-20 e-mails to NWA I still don't know if I have access to their lounges.

When at NWA office they treat you like an idiot. If you ask them something they don't have a clue what they are talking about. When I was there claiming miles that had not been registered on my account they told me to bring my ticket. Well, I didn't have my ticket, because I had been flying on an e-ticket. Then they told me that they could not give me the miles.

So I had to go home and print the rules from internet and when I came back with the printed rules they only told me that they had never said that they couldn't do that.

I remember 10-15 years ago when they started with this frequent flyer stuff. I read in Bangkok Post about a guy trying to get a reward ticket from KLM. He was running in to endless problem with full flights and needless to say, he never got his free ticket.

I should book Sue in business class with me, same story, after several e-mails to NWA I still didn't know how to book a business ticket for Sue. In the last e-mail from NWA they said that I had to call NWA in USA because they could not answer the question.
I had tried the internet. No business option, but I tried tourist class. Ha! Full, and they asked me if I wanted the Blockbuster option. What the h••l is the blockbuster? Lo and behold, there was a seat available, but I had to pay 100% extra and that was more than the listed price for business class. They can as well skip step 1 and take passenger (or wanna be passengers) straight to the blockbuster step.

Well, I will change airline and in the future I will only go for the cheapest (well, not to the extent that I will fly Aeroflot or something like that) and I will not care about any miles. What a racket!

Well, enough of this, I left the engine room and the pilot came onboard at 1600. We meet M/T Chassiron when we left our jetty she was bound for our jetty. I mention this because I think you remember from one of my previous stories that I had seen her in Bayonne last summer. She had had an explosion onboard during tank cleaning. Now she looked nice comparing to when she was in Bayonne.

On the fo'c's'le at departure from Donges

We left Donges just after 1600 12th of July and after departure I was off to my cabin for a shower and a diet coke before dinner. Our Cook wanted to see a video at 1830 so after dinner I Aladdin's adventure onboard M/T Bro Jupiterwas off to my cabin again so I could write a little something on my web page before the movie.

I went down in the day room at 1830 and our Cadet was watching video. Hmm, seems impossible to see the movie Big fish, we have tried for 2 days now. Maybe we will have better luck tomorrow night.

Tuesday 13th of July 2004
and I knew that I had a long watch ahead of me. We will adjust our time to British time, so at 2 o'clock the clock will be 1 o'clock. During my watch we changed course from WNW to NW and we steered towards Oussant TSS. I called Oussant Traffic at 0320 and that was pretty much what happened during my 5 hours on the bridge.
I had also promised the AB that I will burn “Verdens længste rap” with Østkyst Hustlers on a CD for him so I got started with this when I came down to my cabin after my watch.
Aladdin's adventure onboard M/T Bro Jupiter
Our Cook is making Raggmunkar

Our Cook called me at 1130. Our Cook was calling and I kne instantly that something was going on.
- Do you want Raggmunk?
- Does the bear shit in the woods?
Well, it's the same story every time I start my diet. I told him that I will be down in a jiff. I had a Aladdin's adventure onboard M/T Bro Jupiterrecord breaking shower and I was in the galley in 2 steps.

Our Cook had just completed the first Raggmunks when I arrived to the kitchen and I went out to the mess room. I started right of with 3 Raggmunks and I topped up with 2 more before I was full.

Before going to the bridge I had a last Raggmunk in the galley while picking up the latest tittle-tattle. There is always a story or two from the kitchen department

I made it in time for 12 o'clock to the bridge. It was gorgeous weather. Sunshine and no wind, Aladdin's adventure onboard M/T Bro Jupitermaybe the summer is here to stay now. I sure hope so after all the bad weather we have had.

Well, engine trouble and I had to slow down at 1215 and at 1320 I had to stop our engine. There is some problem in the engine room after the shipyard. This is the second or third time we had to stop after the shipyard.

We were drifting until 1515 when I could start again.

After my watch I was busy with our safety equipment again, our Chief Engineer came for some help Aladdin's adventure onboard M/T Bro Jupiterwith his computer. We sorted out the problem and it was almost time for dinner.

I had an appointment with our Cook in the day room at 2000 for video. We were lucky and we could see the movie Big fish. It was a real sleeping pill, an all time low. It was very nice when we reached the end.

+++++++++++++++
Wednesday 14th of July 2004
and we had a slow but nice morning watch, I just wish that I had brought some more CDs. I know all the music now and our radio on the bridge leaves a little to wish for, anyway the aerial, because I can't receive any radio signals when more than a little away from the radio mast.

When I came on my afternoon watch 14th of July we had just dropped our anchor outside Dieppe. It was problem with our engine again. And on top of that the weather had turned gloomy and grey with wind blowing from SW force 6.

We don't know how long we have to stay anchored, they don't have any spare parts and experts are coming onboard from B&W. That's the company that built the engine.

I spent the evening watching a video with the boys “ Plötsligt i Vindslöv ” and then I went to my cabin and I watched a few home movies of Sue.

+++++++++++++++
Thursday 15th of July 2004
and I connected to internet and sent my e-mails to Sue when I came on my watch at midnight. I received e-mails from Sue and a request for me as Chief Officer on a VLCC. Hmm, I can't sign on after this ship, I will spend quality time with Sue.

But I will call the company for future openings. I also have the company in Dubai wanting me as Chief Officer on a 41 000 DWT chemical tanker. I was lucky that I was onboard Bro Jupiter so I could say no. Oh yeah! Chemical tankers are my favourite , especially after working in Stolt. But I find it hard to say no and I was saved by Broström, again!

When I came on my afternoon watch 15th of July it was still windy. We are used to the gloomy and grey weather by now. I was told that the engine expert was arriving to Paris at 3 o'clock in the afternoon. We see when he comes onboard.

French coastguard has a vessel patrolling around us. They steamed backwards and forwards next to us and I could not help thinking about how much that costs the French tax payer. And all the Aladdin's adventure onboard M/T Bro Jupiterfuel they are burning goes out through their funnel as smoke and destroys the environment. Well, just after 1 o'clock they dropped their anchor 0,6 NM from us.

Well, this is getting boring now. Our agent called us in the afternoon and the spare part and expert will arrive to Dieppe tonight. So I hope we can leave the anchorage soon. At 3 o'clock our friends from the French coastguard left us, while disappearing in the horizon I was wondering what he did around us for all that time. Maybe they found a
PanamaGreek they could chase instead so they left us alone.

At 4 o'clock I was off my watch and I checked some of our fire equipment before dinner time. Before leaving the bridge our Agent called and told us that Technician and spare part will come onboard tomorrow morning at 9 o'clock.

After dinner we went to see the Captain.
-Open the slop chest! We need chocolate!
We bought chocolate and loaded with chocolate we went down to the day room and the video. Last Samurai or something like that. Our Cook was eating all my chocolate so I didn't need to feel bad about any failed diet.

+++++++++++++++
Friday 16th of July 2004
and first thing was to prepare my tea and second thing was to write e-mail to Sue when I came on my watch at midnight, well, I had nothing to do so I relieved Chief Officer just after 2330 on the 15th of July.
.
My inbox was brimmed with love letters from Sue. Our next Cook is also sending e-mail, he's single again and he wants go skylarking with me when we sign off.

When I came on my afternoon watch 16th of July there was no news for us. Our expert could not dismantle our engine. The French authorities don't want a fully laden tanker on their waters without an engine. So we we're not allowed to dismantle the engine. Later on it was decided that we should go to Le Havre. They had arranged a berth for us so we could repair our engine. Well, spending a weekend in Le Havre could mean some activities ashore. It's just to bring out our colour full hats and find a “ La Disco ”, there must be some nice place to visit in Le Havre. You just have to stay tuned to aladdin.st to find out about our adventures in foreign countries.

One thing is for sure, I need to kick ass with my diet if I want to be handsome tonight at arrival to Le Havre. Nothing less than a chock diet will do!

Before leaving the anchorage outside Dieppe our Captain ordered cash for us. It's Friday afternoon and it could be hard to get cash in Le Havre during the weekend. I don't want to lose my credit card in yet another ATM machine. I have lost a few and the last card I lost was in Spain as you remember from my previous adventure. I don't want to walk down that avenue again.

We were just waiting for the speed boat to pick up our engine expert and the engine department to
start the engine. Yeah! Do it! I know that you want to push the start button. Warning! This interactivity is addictive. Don't get stuck here pushing the button, it's a real Friday afternoon boredom killer.

We had English time onboard so at 1445 I adjusted ship time to French time and ipsi wipsi wu the clock was 1545 and I just had time to make the weather notes in the log book and I was off my watch.

All this adjusting time business made our kitchen staff confused. But dinner is 6 o'clock ( 5 o'clock English time) and I have 2 hours to spend before dinner. I went down to the kitchen and I found our Cook.
- Hey! Do you have anything nice to wear? I can't bring you to the disco looking like a tramp.

On the way to Le Havre pilot station we got the message that they keep security level 2 in Le Havre. Believe me when I say that the ISPS code is pure crap. The question is if we should enter a port with security level 2.

They called me at 2300 16th of July, I was in my cabin working with my pictures.
-20 minutes to the berth!
I was down on deck in a jiff and we had all fast just after midnight. Security level 2 and the jetty are full of people fishing and cars coming and going. No gate to pass when entering the area. That can be a good thing when coming back from the disco in the wee hours. No Port Security Officer coming onboard at arrival, and they keep security level 2!!!!

It was the same in Donges, at departure they came onboard with the DOS (Declaration of Security). It was the Loading Master bringing the paper and not the Port Security Officer.

Saturday 17th of July 2004
and I spent my night watch in the CCR writing on my web page and I sent e-mail to Sue.

When I came on my afternoon watch 17th of July it was sunshine and nice weather. It was one of these days that you wanted to go ashore having a good time. Our 2nd Officer wanted to go ashore as well, of course, Saturday night. We played the scissor, paper and stone, best of 3. He won and I will stay onboard. But I will try to persuade him to stay onboard.

I had no luck persuading him to stay onboard so I was looking forward to an 8 hours watch on Sunday morning. I was lucky to fall asleep and I woke up at 2330 Saturday night and I was prepared for my watch when I came on my watch at midnight. We write 18th of July today and it's soon August and time to go home

I was enjoying my watch writing e-mails to Sue and writing a few words on my web page. At 0145 most of the crew was back onboard, as mentioned before on aladdin.st time has changed. Sunday morning and I had expected the guys to be ashore until 6 o'clock in the morning.
OK, I did not put this pictures on the internet back in 2004. But now it is time, I was in the CCR and I took a picture of the crew when they dropped in during the night. Hey! It is almost 10 years ago and we have grown both older and wiser since then.

Our Cook making breakfast with a slight hangover

It was nice when the clock turned 8 and I could go for my sleep. I had a quick breakfast quarter to 8 and I cracked a few jokes with the boys.
- Aladdin! Can you help us taking picture of the seized engine?
- Of course!

We went down in the engine room and we got a few pictures and I was off to my bed. Impossible to fall asleep, it must be all the excitement. But when in bed I could not help laughing for myself. Aladdin's adventure onboard M/T Bro JupiterI was thinking about our photo safari in the engine room.

Well, here it goes, and no names mentioned. 1 of the crew members comes down with the ship camera to the duty mess. He took a picture and he wanted to see the result. He didn't know what or how to press to get the camera in “ Replay ” mode.
The guy next to him wanted to see the picture as well.
- Can I have a look?
Crew #1 give him the camera still in photo mode and crew #2 is looking for the picture on the LCD screen on back. When he moves the camera he can see the movement on the LCD screen, which he think is in replay mode.
- It's a video!
Well, I said that I will use my own camera and off we went to take the pictures. I had been up and going for a long time so I went straight to bed. Not possible to fall asleep so I was pretty tired when they called me at 1140 for my afternoon watch.

I started my afternoon watch 18th of July with lunch and a few laughs with the boys.
- We need some more photos from the engine, Chief Engineer said.
We went down in the engine room and took a few photos and back in the CCR I burned the pictures Aladdin's adventure onboard M/T Bro Jupiterto a CD. Our Chief Engineer was happy as always and they will send the CD to the company with some overnight service.

18th of July was a dull afternoon and I was tired due to lack of sleep. No one around to talk to, everyone's hiding in their cabins. Well, I hope things starts to move around here at 3 o'clock when it's coffee time.

At 3 o'clock our coffee room (duty mess) was crowded and, well, I don't know about “ things moving around ”. But at least there was someone to talk to. 2nd Officer came down after his long sleep and he brought his hair trimmer and I had a new haircut in a jiff. I was off to bed trying to catch up on lost sleep at 4 o'clock.

I found it hard to fall asleep in the afternoon as well, but finally I managed. My alarm was set for 2000, otherwise it will be hard to fall asleep at 4 o'clock after my watch tomorrow morning.

I took a shower and I got dressed. I had planned for a walk around town in the evening. I brought my MiniDisc and Nat Ill & DJ Static was blasting from the earphones.
After walking around for 45 minutes in the port I started to go towards Centre de Ville and at the first intersection there was a street with a few restaurants and pubs. I caught sight of our Captain and Chief Engineer and I joined them. We had a good time with stories from the seven seas and before soon it was time for me to return to the ship and my midnight watch.

+++++++++++++++
Monday 19th of July 2004
and my midnight watch was pretty much like the other watches. Sending e-mail to Sue and uploading updates on my web page. Sue's e-mail is the only thing I have to look forward to, well, except signing off.

I managed to fall asleep after my watch and I felt good when they called me for my afternoon watch. When I came on watch our “ Engine expert ” from B&W needed help to print some
documents and we were done in a jiff. He's leaving for Sweden tomorrow morning. He will go with taxi to the airport in Paris and our Cadet will leave with him to Paris for her flight home.
Aladdin's adventure onboard M/T Bro Jupiter
Engine Expert and AB on the gangway going ashore

I had planned to go ashore after my watch, looking for French Hip Hop and “Cassele de textile”. Motorman and AB joined and we were picked up at 1615. Our engine expert left the ship for his hotel and we got a ride with him to “Centre de Ville”.

We walked around for a long time looking for the mall.
- Centre de Commerce????
Finally we found the mall, but no record shop. But the AB found a pack of CD-RW for “Verdens Aladdin's adventure onboard M/T Bro Jupiterlængste rap” with Østkyst Hustlers. We walked around the city looking for a record shop. Unbelievable, no record shop in the city.

There were 2 real estate agents in every corner (I have never seen so many real estate agents in a city before), we passed plenty bars with red light outside. You know the kind where you buy the girls someyhing to drink. 30€ for a small glass of apple juice and you are HANDSOME #1, at least for as long as the drink last.

But not a record shop in sight and all the walking around made us hungry. We found a restaurant and we stepped inside. There were no sign of any people inside when we came inside. Just a waiter informing us that they open at 7 o'clock. What the !! It was 10 minutes before 6 and we were hungry and we didn't want to wait until 7. We found a Brasseri and we ordered a Cheese & ham baguette. 20 minutes before Aladdin's adventure onboard M/T Bro Jupiter7 we left and returned to an Italian restaurant we passed on the way to the Brasseri. Now there was a door open and we stepped in. Same story.
- We open at 7 o'clock.

We went for a beer and at 7 o'clock we went in to a restaurant and ordered steak. We finished our meal with coffee and tea (for me). I returned to the ship with the AB and Motorman stayed behind.

I tried to get some sleep when I came back onboard but without any success. So I relieved Chief Officer at 11 o'clock. I can as well write my e-mail in the CCR as in my cabin.

+++++++++++++++
Tuesday 20th of July 2004
and I burnt “Verdens længste rap” with Østkyst Hustlers for the AB and Motorman during my morning watch. So now they have some good music.

I started my afternoon watch on the 20th of July with lunch. Captain told me that our 2nd Aladdin's adventure onboard M/T Bro JupiterEngineer needed some help.
- What? I asked.
- If you can get the latest news from Tour de France from internet.
I found the site and I downloaded the latest news and stuff. While waiting for our 2nd Officer to be ready with the computer (he is playing games 24/7) I checked our fire hoses. When I was ready with the fire hoses I went to our computer room. Hmm, he is still playing and by now I think he has won the whole Second World War all by lonesome.

A ordinary day for the crew

While checking our fire hoses I took pictures of our crew while at work. So you can see what the crew do during an ordinary day. I'm afraid that I have already blown this page out of proportions when it comes to graphic. It's what we say, a graphic heavy side, and while you wait for the page to download you can get a quick cuppa. You broadbanders don't have to worry!

Yes, I had been keeping myself busy taking pictures during the day. Our friends from the French custom came rushing onboard in the afternoon. 6 persons armed to their teeth. We have been alongside since Friday night or 0000 Saturday morning. They came onboard with tools and stuff, first when I saw them I thought it was people for our engine. Then I thought that they were going to dismantle the ship in search for something.

I was covering for 2nd Officer on the 4 to 8 watch after my watch so our 2nd Officer could go ashore buying fresh bread, Yummy!! Captain had got my new Certificate of Competence as Ship Security Officer and he put it on my place in the mess room. So now I'm a certified twerrorist fighter.

I had a power nap after dinner and I didn't wake up until 10 o'clock in the evening. They were nagging on me to go ashore for a few beers.
- Take the opportunity when you have this chance!
OK, I gave in and I had a shower and Captain called a taxi. I meet some of the crew in the city when they were on the way back to the ship.

I took a walk around the city looking for a place with music. Well, there were plenty real estate agents but no music. I heard music from a place and I opened the door to check it out. When opening the door I could see this rainbow on the door together with some stickers about AIDS. Well, this was not my kind of place so I left and I found an Irish pub.

I ordered a beer and a taxi. I thought that I should check out the seafront and if it was as dull as the city I would return to the ship.
I had a chat with a guy and I asked about the night life in Le Havre.
- You should go to La Rochelle. Plenty good music and all the young people go there, he said.
My self-confidence got a real boost. I know that I'm looking young, but it always nice to hear stuff like this.
- Where is this La Rochelle?
- It's some 500 km away.
What the There must have been some misunderstanding here. Well, never mind.

I went out for my taxi with an unshakable self-confidence, but no taxi in sight and after a few minutes I went back to the Irish pub and I ordered a new beer.
- Please call a taxi. The other taxi was a “no show“
This time the taxi arrived with screaming and smoking tyres. I just got a zip of my beer. I rushed out to the taxi.
- Bord de la mer!

We arrived to a place called Latino at the sea front and they played Master Blaster with Steve Wonder and I had 2 quick beers. I ordered my 3rd and they started to play Happy birthday or something like that with Steve. There was a bus stop outside and I was just about to throw myself in front of the bus. But I left for the next bar.

On the next bar they played very good music and before soon I had a new beer in my hand. I mingled with the young and beautiful people until closing time.
I ordered a new taxi.
- La disco, le bar la de musique

I had been told about a disco named shit or cheap. I thought it was a strange name, but never mind as long as they played good music. Well, shit or cheap, yeah-yeah it was a ship. I arrived to a ship in the port named Duplex and the disco was on the ship. I ordered Aladdin's adventure onboard M/T Bro Jupitera beer first thing. 4€ for the smallest bottle of Heineken I had ever seen.

Small bottles, no problem, it just to order more of them. They say it's expensive in Sweden but I think France is much more expensive.

Never mind I had my pocket full and they were burning. Never mind, there are more where they came from. That's the spirit after a few bottles, but tomorrow with a hangover it will be a different story. How could I be that stupid?

I was not impressed by Le Duplex, and I was obviously not the only one disapointed. 2012 and I was looking for pictures of Le Duplex and I found one picture flick. There was the following comment when I pointed the coursor on the ship: Le Duplex, Le Havre's rotting, couldn't-take-to-sea-if-life-depended-on-it boat/nightclub.

Wednesday 21st of July 2004
and I was called for at 1140 as usually and the action started right off as soon as I came down to the mess room.
- Can we get the latest Tour the France updates? Captain asked.
- Can you help me with my computer? Chief Engineer asked.
Aladdin's adventure onboard M/T Bro Jupiter
Chief Engineer and AB on deck

We got provision and a new 1st Engineer. I covered for the 2nd Officer in the afternoon so he Aladdin's adventure onboard M/T Bro Jupitercould take the bicycle ashore to buy some fresh bread. Same as yesterday, it's nice to get the fresh bread delivered.

I tried to sleep after dinner, but I failed. So I was up writing a few words on my web page. I had not been able to connect to internet during the afternoon.
No e-mail to Sue. I will try tonight again, I MISS her e-mail. I turned off my phone and turned it on again, now my modem was working again. I received plenty e-mail from Sue and I can write e-mail to her on my night watch.

Thursday 22nd of July 2004
and now it's getting very boring to stay here in Le Havre doing nothing. And when I spoke to the engine department there was no news on the spare parts. It seems like the spare parts are stuck on the airport in Paris.

Well, one of the ABs registered a domain name and booked a web hotel when I came on my watch. I don't know when he will be up and running, but check out www.seaserpent.nu for upcoming excitements.

I went ashore after my afternoon watch, our Motorman told me about a record shop on 3rd floor at the shopping center. Our 2nd Officer asked me to buy a mouse for his computer and one of
the ABs wanted some recordable CDs.

Now I have CDs for my watches on the bridge at departure. But “Verdens længste rap” with Østkyst Hustlers is always a safe bet.
I also found a CD with the French group TRUST, good old hard rock from the
80's, before they started to call everything metal.

When I came back onboard they had the engine running and it looks like we are leaving tomorrow. Nice to leave Le Havre.

+++++++++++++++
Friday 23rd of July 2004
and I think it's my last night watch laying in Le Havre. I relieved Chief Officer a little early so I could explain a little about HTML for the AB on 8-12 watch. Yeah, he's the one with the new web site www.seaserpent.nu.
He told me that it would take them 72 hours to register his name. But we had uploaded some files for him before I went ashore for my CDs in the afternoon. But aladdin.st doesn't take any responsibility for the content on this page.

I was off to bed at 0430. I was hanging around the CCR for a chat with 2nd Officer when he relieved me at 4. I was called for at 0945.
- 20 minutes to departure, the AB told me.
We left Le Havre just after 10 o'clock 23rd of July, nice! After departure I went for a shower and I wrote a few words on my web page. At 12 o'clock I will bring my new CDs to my bridge watch. French Hip Hop will be blasting high on the Richter scale the whole afternoon.

+++++++++++++++
Saturday 24th of July 2004
and when I came on my midnight watch I was told that we had to wait at Immingham anchorage until late evening Monday 26th of July.

We dropped our anchor outside Immingham 08:55 and when I came on my afternoon watch it was just to make some tea and relax. I worked a little with my web page. We got a new e-mail from our Agent, berthing 27th of July at 1300.

No net coverage with my mobile phone so I have to use ship's e-mail. I checked the alarm in the hospital and I checked our valves on the fire and foam lines after my watch. A quick dinner and I'm off to my cabin and my web page. I spend the evenings in my cabin writing and I drink 2 diet cokes. I will try to stick to 2 diet drinks per day so no more cokes during my watches. 2 a day keeps the Doctor away.

All the delays have made us very late and it looks like the new Cook will come onboard here in Immingham. I have been with him on 2 other ships and I have asked him in my e-mail to bring snus when he signs on.

Now we have to see about my diet. He has been a little grumpy before when he could see me loosing weight and he have failed.

I heard from 1 of the ABs (wants to be anonymous) that last time onboard he blamed the scale. I'm not surprised.
- It's showing way too much!!!
Well, what can I say, but that's not the spirit we are looking for. I hope that we can pep each other to lose plenty.

Well, anyway, after my dinner I went back to my cabin and I opened a diet coke and I started with my web page. I started to change the whole layout of my web page in Le Havre. I had plenty time and now I have to finish it up. I hope I can finish my folder tree today. Plenty job to make it work correct. I cannot use my old folder tree because it only works with frames.

+++++++++++++++
Sunday 25th of July 2004
and we were still anchored when I came on my afternoon watch. It was gloomy and grey with wind force 5-6. This summer won't make it to the history book as a summer with nice weather.

+++++++++++++++
Monday 26th of July 2004
and I was called for at 10 o'clock.
- We will have a fire drill at 1015.
At 1015 the fire alarm went off and we got smoke divers ready. Fire in the engine room and 2 smoke divers was sent down with a fire hose. After the fire drill we held a life boat muster on the bridge and in the afternoon we launched our MOB boat.

When I came on my watch they told me that pilot will board us at midnight and that we should be at the jetty at 0200 27th of July. I had a nice watch on the bridge, sun shine and no wind. The sea looked like a mirror.

When I woke up after my power nap in the evening, yes, I know. I usually don't sleep in the evening, but I needed a quickie after all the drama in the morning with fire drill and stuff.
Well, anyway, when I woke up I was full of zip and I wrote a little on my web page and sipped my diet coke. Around 2200 I could hear them start our engine and it seems like we're on our way inside. About 2 weeks late after the stop in Le Havre.

+++++++++++++++
Tuesday 27th of July 2004
and we were just to pass Spurn L/B when I came on my watch at midnight. We kept slow speed because Bro Tina was before us to the pilot station and pilot should board us 10 minutes after Bro Tina. When we were in Le Havre I got a few pictures of Bro Tina when she arrived. So take a quick look at my  web page with ship pictures.

Our Pilot boarded us at 0015 27th of July. On the way up the river they told us that there was a problem with the cargo on the ship leaving from our jetty.
- Maybe we have to go out anchoring again, the Pilot said.
- Oh no! I must send e-mail to Sue. On the anchorage there is no network coverage, I thought for myself.
I was relieved when they called us and told us that the ship was leaving at 2 o'clock and we Aladdin's adventure onboard M/T Bro Jupitercould go alongside. We had all fast around 3 o'clock, I think and at 4 o'clock I was off to my cabin and my e-mails from Sue.

Our new Cook was onboard when I came on my afternoon watch. Later on 3 of our crew left the ship, 1st Engineer, Cook and Motorman. Our Engine expert left the ship early morning. He had been with us from Le Havre.

In the afternoon we got provision onboard and I got a box of empty CDs so I can make back up and stuff. Our new Cook spent most of the afternoon in the CCR and he complained about my web page.
- There isn't very much of me! Should be more pictures of me, he said.
- Well, give me your CV and I will put it online.
It was soon 4 o'clock and I was off my watch and I spent the time until it was time to eat dinner to check our oil spill equipment on deck.

Wednesday 28th of July 2004
and we had completed discharging when I came on my watch at midnight and pilot was ordered for 2 o'clock.
We left Immingham behind just after 2 o'clock and pilot was off at Spurn just before 4 o'clock. Nice weather outside and when I returned to the bridge after leaving the pilot it was almost time for my sleep. I had a chat with Captain and 2nd Officer before leaving the bridge for my cabin. Always nice with a few laughs.

When I came on my afternoon watch we were outside River Thames and I was busy with all the ships coming and going from Thames. It was very nice weather, but a little haze.
Now they changed out loading order again. Now it was only 1 discharging port and full cargo. Before it was 2 discharge ports, Liverno in Italy and Lavera in France. When I came on my watch it was max 9800MT and when I was off my watch it was full cargo and dropping anchor at arrival to Fawley. When I came on my watch it was going alongside 5 o'clock in the morning 29th of July. Yeah yeah, we see at arrival to Fawley.

I had a busy afternoon, after lunch our Chief Engineer came on the bridge (as usually) followed by our Captain and 2nd Officer. We were cracking a few jokes and had a few good laughs.

I really like the crew onboard now. We are always having a good time. Our new Cook came up Aladdin's adventure onboard M/T Bro Jupiterlater on, but he was a little disappointed when his only friend wasn't alone on the bridge.

When I came on my midnight watch yesterday I found some messages on my door from the Cook. I can imagine him coming onboard the ship, no one to talk to in the evening. Running around the ship wondering:
- Where is Aladdin?
I told him it wasn't necessary to put those messages on my door.
- Just knock on my door, I never sleep in the evening. My door is always open for you!

After my watch I checked the equipment in our lifeboat and I was ready just in time for dinner. Our Cook had made spinach for me. Healthy and yummy!

+++++++++++++++
Thursday 29th of July 2004
and we had some 8 Nm to go to our anchorage when I came on my watch at midnight.

Captain was on the bridge.
- Our Cook is very disappointed at you, he told me first thing.
- ???!!! What???!!!
- He was sitting in the day room watching movie all by lonesome waiting for you.
- He told me that you had promised to watch a movie with him.
- Well, he could have told me, I don't know exact when he's ready. I hope he took a shower before the movie, I said.
Well, I can't wait around for him to be ready. I had told him that I would arrange chocolate for the movie, but he should call me when he was ready in the kitchen.
- He could have called me when he was ready! I already told him that it's just to call when he's feeling lonely, I said.
Hmm, no video and I didn't have to eat any chocolate and I was happy about it.

We dropped our anchor 2,5 NM from NAB tower at 0040 29th of July. Now we have to wait and see when our jetty is ready.

When I was called for my afternoon watch 29th of July I thought they called me for arrival. But when I came on my watch we were still anchored. While writing e-mail to Sue they called me on the VHF and asked us to be at the pilot station 1430. We had our anchor up at 1338 and while proceeding to the pilot station they told us that the pilot will board us at 1500 and just before they said that the pilot will board at 1515.

Finally at 1510 pilot was onboard and we had all fast at jetty #3 just in time to have our dinner at 5 o'clock. Our Agent came onboard with 2 bags of mail and I got a CD from the Cadet in Kalmar and my ISPS certificate from the company. We got new movies and I had my refrigerator full of chocolate. But our Cook went ashore so no movie or chocolate tonight.

+++++++++++++++
Friday 30th of July 2004
and we got a new Chief Officer and the old Chief Officer left us 2 in the afternoon. After my watch I was busy for a while with our safety equipment and after that I had to fix our Cadet's computer. He came to me a few days ago.
- My computer won't start.
- Well, there isn't much I can do. Try to buy good quality next time, I said.
Yesterday he told me that when he starts the computer there was just a flashing dot on the screen.
- A flashing dot? Before you said nothing happened when you started you computer, I said.
- If there is a flashing dot we can most likely fix your computer, I said.
If the screen is all black and no lights are on then it is a NO HOPER, but a flashing dot o the screen means that we can fix it. Well, after 40 minutes and a shower his computer was up and
running. He was so happy. But he had not taking any backup, hmm, 2004, and still people don't back up their stuff.

I also had time to send an e-mail to our AB's web hotel. He registered the www.seaserpent.nu. but still nothing. When going to this domain there is just a page offering you to register this domain name. Well, maybe we have to put up a warning here soon about using this web hotel.

It looks like we will be ready early tomorrow morning and we will leave England for the Mediterranean. No chance to upload my web page for a few days. But I hope you can find other things to do for a few days. But come back soon for the latest excitement.
Well, I'm out of here!! I'm just going to upload this and I'm off to our dayroom with my chocolate. Our Cook is waiting with a movie.

We watched the movie “Paycheck” and, well, it was pretty good. We didn't finish my chocolate and I could bring 1 box back to my cabin. Tomorrow it's Saturday and we try again.
After the movie I had a quick power nap and I read a few pages in my book before going on watch at midnight.

+++++++++++++++
Saturday 31st of July 2004
and had a talk with the AB on 8-12 watch when I came on my watch at midnight. I told him that I sent e-mail to his web hotel asking them to return his money if they didn't shape up. He had been in Southampton buying books about making web pages. He showed me 3 books that he bought and they looked very good.
- Maybe I can borrow some book some night? I asked.
We completed loading at 0315 31st of July and pilot is ordered for 0830. It will be nice to leave England behind, well, Immingham behind. We're bound for Fawley.
Sorry to say that I had to update my web pages with a new warning. Click to read the latest warnings!
In the afternoon 2nd Officer came on the bridge complaining about his phone bill.
- I have a 500€ telephone bill, he said.
I'm using “Campus Mobile” and it should cost about 1€ 50 ¢ per MB using the GPRS. And they should send SMS to me every time I have used 6€. This was one of the things making me choose “Campus Mobile”.
- I have not received any SMS about me reaching 6€, he complained.
He wrote to them about his bill and they told him:
- Well, we have increased the price for using GPRS to 15€/ MB and we are sorry that our SMS service didn't work.
This is how crooks are working, how convenient that the SMS service didn't work just when they increased the price by 10 times the ordinary low price. Well, I told him to change mobile operator and all of you using “Campus Mobile” should change to another mobile operator first thing. We don't want to support bandits, so please use another network.
I hope you don't have to read more stories with the “Veckans Sverker” on aladdin.st. When you see a new “Veckans Sverker” it's just to click on it to read the latest warnings.

and just after I came on my afternoon watch I caught sight of a whale Aladdin's adventure onboard M/T Bro Jupiterblowing water. They had the first bath in the swimming pool today. ( Our Cook was first in the afternoon, and I got a chock. How did the whale come up in the pool?)

I took a picture of the boys and later on 2nd engineer joined us. Our Cadet sent me an e-mail wishing me to put the painting that our AB did on my page. She was onboard when he started with the picture, but she signed off before the picture was ready Well, I can't say no and here it is.

Monday 2nd of August 2004
and we were just north of Cabo Finisstere in Spain when I came on my watch at midnight. The sea had been like a mirror while crossing the Biscay. After my watch I Aladdin's adventure onboard M/T Bro Jupiterwent down in the CCR and I wrote some e-mails to Sue and I sent our monthly training report to seagull.

We have a training program onboard with CDs. At the end of every month I have to send the report on our training to the company.

When I came on my afternoon watch 2nd of August we were outside Spain. After lunch Captain came on the bridge with cookies.
- No NO NO NO!! TAKE THEM DOWN FROM THE BRIDGE, I screamed.
- I'm on diet here, I said.
After I while I caught sight of a whale dead ahead again. Plenty whales every day. I went outside Aladdin's adventure onboard M/T Bro Jupiterand screamed to the people sunbathing on “Monkey Island”. Especially our 2nd Officer, first time for him on a ship and he had never seen any whale before.
- There are a whale dead ahead, I screamed.
I had my camera with me on the bridge and I got a picture of the whale blowing water. Well, I'm getting closer and closer to the perfect photo every time. But this time there was no Bosun around that I could borrow photo from. Well, you can see the water spray on the picture and you can use your imagination for the rest.
Aladdin's adventure onboard M/T Bro Jupiter

When I checked my e-mail there were plenty from Sue. She wondered why there was so much about our Cook on my web page. Well, what can I do? He's complaining about not getting enough exposure on my web page. I was relieved by 2nd Officer at 16:00
- We just overtake the ship behind us on port side, and we are closing in on the ship 20 degrees out on starboard side, I said.
- We are steering 174 degrees on the automatic, I said.
I was off to inspect our fire extinguishers after my watch, busy busy.

Wednesday 4th of August 2004
and we were just west of Strait of Gibraltar when I came on
my watch at midnight. Plenty fishing boats and stuff so the time passed quickly. When we were East of Gibraltar we did over 17 knots, very good speed. But at 4 o'clock we only did 15 knots. My afternoon watch 4th of August started perfect. It was nice weather and the crew prepared our deck for our BBQ party.

Yeah, a beautiful afternoon watch, but things were soon to turn sour. They called me from the company. Chief Officer on Framnäs needs to go home ASAP.
- Can you go relieve him?
No, I don't want to go to Framnäs. If the seagoing personnel manager hadn't been an old friend of me I think I would have said no. But I asked about the AB we tried to get rid of last summer. He was no longer on the ship, about time they kicked him of the ship!!!

I know the Captain onboard from last summer. Well, I hope it's him onboard when I arrive. He's from my old town Båstad in Skåne and when he's onboard it's good order on things, otherwise it's like “High Chapparal” onboard. I don't feel like signing on “High Chapparal” again.

I will leave Bro Jupiter in Lavera and fly direct to Framnäs and I will miss the leaning tower in Pisa. I had been looking forward to see the tower. Well, never mind the tower, but I have my cabin full of diet cokes and what to do with them?

Aladdin's adventure onboard M/T Bro Jupiter
Team BBQ - 1 AB missing

They started the BBQ at 1600 and I joined them just after 5 o'clock. I wanted to take a photo of the whole crew, but 1 AB was sleeping so 1 guy is missing. But I got my picture and 2nd Officer came and relieved me just after 5 o'clock and I could go down for a snack.

It tasted very good, but it was very hot in the sun. I had just a little to eat, have to think about my diet. Now it's almost 2 weeks since I put any extra salt on my food. I use 1 saltcellar in 2-3 days and that's no good. I spent the evening g updating my web page and preparing our gifts for the Cook, he's birthday is on the 9th of August. We had planned to sing and serve breakfast on his bed at 0530, but I will be off the ship by then. I just have to finish the gifts so the boys can hand them to him on the 9th of August.

While working with the gifts I was drinking coke like there was no tomorrow. After going through all the trouble bringing them onboard in Fawley I didn't want to throw them away. Maybe I can bring them to Framnäs, last time onboard they only had Coke from South Africa and it tasted like sh•t. Terrible.
Sorry to say that I had to update my web pages with a new warning. Click to read the latest warnings!
Well, here we go again. Remember the AB with his new domain name. 2 weeks and his domain are not registered. He will try to get his money back via MasterCard. But he registered a new domain www.seaserpent.se and check it out for upcoming excitements. I hope he can be up and running soon. But I'm leaving the ship and he has borrowed 1 of my phones to be connected to the net. Without the phone I don't think there will be any updates soon. But make sure to visit his page in the future.
Make sure to visit my page to see what web hotel not to use!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We passed Ibiza on my morning watch 5th of August, otherwise it was a pretty slow watch. We meet a sail yacht.

When I came on my afternoon watch I got my flight details:
KL1400 T 07AUG 6 MRS-AMS HK1  1 0655 0855
KL1109 T 07AUG 6 AMS-ARN HK1  1 1005 1205

Well, up early Saturday morning and travel all day long.
- Puh hvor er jeg træt!
I spent the evening packing my bag, or much of it any way. I decided to bring 1 case of Pepsi Maxi with me. I will go with taxi from door to door. I will not carry my luggage.

When I came down in the evening I meet our 1st engineer looking at my pictures in the computer room. I uploaded all the photos that I have taken onboard to the computer. I could hear the gang screaming from the duty mess:
- Aladdin!!!!!!!
I had worked with some of the crew on CT Star before. They told me that the AB I wanted to get rid of from CT Star was now on Framnäs that. Finally they kicked him off CT Star and now he's on Framnäs. Yeah, I had a bad feeling about this Framnäs already from the beginning.

Last watch on the bridge went pretty quick. I instructed the AB about our birthday breakfast for the Cook.
- It must be hot chocolate and not coffee! This is very important.
Well, I hope it works out well with the breakfast arrangement.

AB picked up the gifts in my cabin and he promised that he will borrow a digital camera of the AB on 8-12 watch. I hadn't managed to finish the gifts, well they are ready but I would like to have some more time for my creation. But well, I have to leave.

ETA to FOS pilot just after 6 o'clock in the morning of the 6th of August. I had reported to FOS Port Control and FOS pilot station before I was relieved by 2nd Officer at 4 o'clock.

I signed on at Fredrikshamn Shipyard 20th of June. Between 20th of June and 6th of August 2004 we did the following voyages:
Voy 25/04: Fawley - Avonmouth. Full cargo of Carbon Black Feedstock.
Voy 26/04: Port Jerome - Fawley. Full cargo of Low Sulphur Heavy fuel.
Voy 27/04: Fawley - Bordeaux. Full cargo of Carbon Black Feedstock.
Voy 28/04: Donges - Immingham. Min/ Max 13500 MT Fuel oil. We had to go to Le Havre due to engine problem.
Voy 29/04: Port Jerome - Rotterdam. Heavy fuel oil. Cancelled due to our engine problem.
Voy 29/04: Fawley - Lavera, France and Livorno, Italy. Full cargo of Carbon Black Feedstock.

I had ordered a wakeup call at 9 o'clock in the morning. The original plan was to fly at 0655 in the morning. So I needed to be tired in the evening so I could sleep a few hours on the hotel.
I spent the morning writing on my web page and packing. Oh, my bag is a beauty when I pack it, but it's a killer when you try to lift it. It's a huge bag.

I relieved Chief officer 12 o'clock and we were discharging in the first barge. I called the captain on Framnäs and he told me that they were delayed.
I called the company and later on I got my new flight details.
AF7665 E 07AUG 6 MRS-CDG HK1  4 1305 1435
AF1062 E 07AUG 6 CDG-ARN HK1  2D 1610 1845

Our new 2nd Officer came onboard in the afternoon and when we completed the first barge at Aladdin's adventure onboard M/T Bro Jupiter14:30 something I showed him around. We walked around deck and I showed him our equipment.

We had our dinner and they told me that my taxi was early and I left the ship. My driver took me to my hotel in a village outside Marseille. My driver told me that it was a nice resort with plenty tourists.

Due to my changed flight times I had planned for a nap and a few beers on the town. Well, it's the old Murphy's law again. I should have slept until 12 in the morning and I would have been fit for a few beers. Now I was very tired.
Well, 2 hours in the bed and a hot shower should do the trick. My driver took me to Hôtel St Roch, the rock as my driver told me.

Only sad faces when I left the ship.

The hotel was on a hill top with a steep road leading to the hotel. He stopped at a stair.
- What the !!! Do I have to climb the Mount Everest with my bag?
I was dragging myself and the bag in to the hotel after climbing the stairs.
- Puh hvor er jeg træt!
I got my key, room 403.
- Where is the elevator?
- No elevator!
- What the !!!!!! I'm not bringing my bag up all those stairs to room 403, I said.
My bag is a real killer and it turned out being almost bigger than the bed in the room. The driver was full of go when he meet me at the ship. He took my bag, but he could not move the darn thing. So I had to take it by my self

They had to give me a new room and I went to bed. I could not fall asleep. I went up and took a shower and I went down to the “Centre de ville”. There was a big marina and there were some activities along the canal or if it was a river, I don't know.

I walked around looking for a place with music. Only restaurants, I thought about a taxi to Marseille. I was too tired and I returned to my hotel.
The driver will pick me up tomorrow at 1130 and drive me to the airport.

Well, over and out. I'm off to bed, I just have to upload my web page. Next time you visit aladdin.st I will be on Framnäs and I'm sure you will check out the latest excitement.

I missed our Cook's birthday but the AB sent me the pictures from the BREAKFAST event. It had turned out well according to the AB. I had left instructions for the breakfast menu for our Cook to the guys. And as you can see he is drinking hot chocolate and not coffee.

Nisse lille !

Time to grow up baby. Sweet Pete        Alla hälsar!!!!
