Flying to Hat Yai, Thailand

Friday 26th of April 2024 and our flight to Hat Yai departs at 12 thirty and the AOT taxi will come at 10 thirty. Been home for 4 days and I had got 3 days at Chaiyasit Muay Thai Gym for 10 rounds with The Red Devil (ปีศาจแดง ก.กุมานนท์)

Not been there for two months so I need to get back in shape. Well, better shape than I was onboard the boat.

So, I decided to do two rounds of “clinching” every day, round 3 and 10. Clinching is a very good exercise to get some pulse. Yesterday my body was aching, especially the neck and shoulders.

And I have missed my scooter and, well, it is not a joy riding to Chaiyasit Muay Thai Gym. But it is way less boring than going in the taxi. I was so feed up the last months going from down town Bangkok to Chaiyasit Muay Thai Gym.

24 km and it took around 1 hour to reach the gym, of course, depending on the traffic. Now I have 37 km and it take me around 1 hour 20 minutes to get to the gym.

The problem, my helmet, way too small and I have looked for helmets and they had all been to small. So I had planned to buy a Bell helmet in Sweden. Going for a firefighting course end of May and I will bring back a new phone, electric grill and helmets.

Looking for a shop in Skåne and suddenly there was pictures of the Bell Pit Boss Open-Face Motorcycle Helmet in the search result. Helmet Shop BKK and I checked the MAP. The shop is located in Lat Krabang, close to Suvarnabhumi.

Not too far away from me so I drove there with my friend to have a look.

I got my helmet, XXXL and I was very happy, no need to waste any time looking for helmets when in Sweden and I can concentrate on birds and firefighting.

I love my new helmet, very comfortable and now I only have problems with my eyes. I have looked for motorcycle googles, but it is not possible to get prescription lenses.

I have to look for some big glasses that I can use as protection while driving and we went to have a look at Robinsons Samut Prakan.

It will take them 5 days to do the glasses. I have wasted a lot of money on progressive glasses, but I have never liked them. So now I ordered glasses with the top for driving and the bottom for reading the instruments.

Way cheaper than progressive lenses, well, I asked for progressive but they told me that it was not possible to get progressive lenses in this size.

AOT will come to pick us up at 10 thirty and we will arrive to Hat Yai at 2 o'clock in the afternoon. Our friend will pick us up and we will drive straight to Wat Chang Hai Rat Buranaram / วัดช้างให้ราษฎร์บูรณาราม หลวงพ่อทวด from the airport.

No time to go to the hotel as we want to reach Wat Chang Hai Rat Buranaram / วัดช้างให้ราษฎร์บูรณาราม หลวงพ่อทวด before it turns dark. Main reason to visit the temple is to buy a Luang Pu Tuad/ ลวงปู่ทวด statue / รูปปั้นทางศาสนา

Wat Rat Burana or Wat Chang Hai

Description
Wat Rat Burana is located in Khuan Nori Sub-district, Khok Pho District, Pattani. This is an ancient temple over 300 years.

History
Formerly "Rat Burana Temple" known as "Chang Hai Temple". According to the legend of Pattani, "Phraya Kaem Dum", the governor of Saiburi city, wanted to find a new location to construct a new city for his sister. Therefore, he praying to let the army and war elephant walked until they reached one of the forests (location of Rat Burana Temple at present).

The elephant walked around and sang 3 times. "Phraya Kaem Dum" was considered that is a good omen to build the city here. But his sister didn't like this place, therefore, she let the elephant walk out again for a second chance. This time, the elephant travelled to one of the beach (Krue Se Subdistrict at present).

The elephant did not sang, but his sister was satisfied. Therefore, she asked "Phraya Kaem Dum" to build the city here, called "Mueang Pattani".

After the city was built, they returned by using the same route when they came, and had a short break in the same forest that the elephant sang 3 times. So, "Phraya Kaem Dum" let the soldiers clear the forest and build a temple called "Wat Chang Hai" meaning "a temple that elephant give to us". This temple now became a place for worship "the great monk of Pattani", and a temple of "Luang Pu Thuat" shrine.

I bought one last time we were at the temple, but it was the biggest statue they had. Very holy and Thai people coming to my home wai the statue. But I need a small statue for my new scooter to boost my luck.

So, I hope to find a small Luang Pu Tuad/ ลวงปู่ทวด statue for my scooter. I already have a Ai Kai / ไอ้ไข coin on my scooter.

Wat Chedi Ai Khai

Description
The location of Wat Chedi now, in the past, there was Luang Pu Tuad of Chang Hai Temple, who was a famous monk from the south of Thailand, returned from Ayutthaya and came to stay in that area. Ai Khai is a disciple who followed Luang Pu Thuat. When Luang Pu Tuad came to such a place; he found that there was a property and the religious place which is a very important place. Therefore, Ai Khai was ordered to guard the treasures and places there, and the village was later renamed as "Pho Sadet Village" to this day.

And, according to the story, it also emphasizes the word “honesty” which is greatly important and when it comes to praying for anything, you must bring that item to repay the wish as well. As the saying goes, “Ask and receive, pay homage” for sure.

Feature
Ai Khai Wat Chedi or Ta Khai Wat Chedi is a wood carving in the shape of a child, aged about 9-10 years old, wearing camouflage clothes and black glasses with the age of more than a thousand years.

History
Wat Chedi used to be an abandoned temple for more than 1,000 years. It was renovated in the year 1957. The area of Ubosot used to be an abandoned Chedi where villagers would not dare to enter.

The history of Ai Khai Wat Chedi or Ta Khai Wat Chedi: Why call it a different name? The answer is that when considering the age of Ai Khai, he was many years old. Villagers believed that it is not appropriate for the descendants or young generations to call “Ai Khai” and they should say “Ta Khai” which is more appropriate.

There is a tale that passed on for many generations that the location of the present Wat Chedi, there was Luang Phu Thuad Wat Chang Hai, the famous teacher in the southern area had traveled back from Krung Si Ayutthaya and stayed in that area.

Ai Khai is believed to be the child spirit of the age 9-10 years old. He was a disciple that pursued Luang Phu Thuad. When Luang Phu Thuad arrived at this place, he had found many treasures and many important religious places.

He had asked Ai Khai to dwell here to watch over these treasures and the place. The name of the village was later changed to “Moo Ban Pho Sadet” until the present. After the year 1957, those who came to stay overnight inside Wat Chedi and if they did not mention, or inform, or ask for forgiveness from Ai Khai, they would not be able to sleep since there would be disturbances all night, such as when they were about to sleep, there would be a child hitting on the head or pulling the legs and arms, disturbing the children’s way.

In the year 1983, Pho Than Thoem, who was the abbot of Wat Chedi at that time, had established a coin to worship Ai Khai for the first time as well as developed the temple continually.

However, the area at the time was still “the pink area, which meant that there was still the movement of communists. The officials had sent about a hundred rangers to temporarily settle at Wat Chedi, in which the same phenomenon had happened.

When the soldiers were about to sleep, they felt that a child had pulled their legs and arms or hit the head with a gun or pushed the gun down so that they could not sleep all night.

In the morning, the soldiers had asked the villagers around Wat Chedi and told the story to them. The villagers knew the story and the reputation of Ai Khai. Therefore, they had given the solution. Before preparing a meal, they must mention the name Ai Khai who dwelled in the area.

After that, the soldiers did as the villagers had suggested. The next night, they could sleep pleasantly with no disturbances from the child.

AOT limousine
On the way to Suvarnabhumi Airport

My friend came to my room at 9 o'clock and I packed my bag. We went down at 10 thirty and the car was waiting for us. It took 30 minutes to get to the airport and to check-in did not take many minutes. No luggage to check-in so we went straight to the departure gates.

We had about 40 minutes to kill and we chose to go to a coffee shop for tea and some pastries. The lounge have nothing exciting to offer so we skipped the lounge.

We left for the security and we arrived to the gate just as the boarding started. I have had less than one week of holiday and already second time I ran in to an alarm and blinking red light when I passed the gate.

Me and my friend were upgraded so we will have an empty seat between us. And we will get food and drinks. Never mind, the empty seat is the one making the difference

I'm asleep before take-off and my friend is eating when I wake up. I skipped the food and refreshments and I soon dozed off again.

We were descending to Hat Yai International and the flight had been very good and the time had passed very quickly. And we landed in time, very important as we need to be at Wat Chang Hai Rat Buranaram/ วัดช้างให้ราษฎร์บูรณาราม หลวงพ่อทวด before they close.

Only carry on so we were in the arrival hall just a few minutes after they had opened the door and our friend was waiting for us.
