   crack of dawn so I could take off to Suan Rot Fai.
The taxi driver was, just as I, very confused by the weather. Raining for 5 days IN JANUARY! Overcast and gloom end grey for as long as I could see. January and the driver had never experienced something like this before. During my time in Thailand I have experiences one shower in February and 2 days of very cold weather in April. 
But I had been very lucky with the taxi, I came down and someone just came back from the airport so I took the same taxi. This was saving me a lot of time for nothing. Still dark when I arrived to Suan Rot Fai, would normally have been a beautiful time of the day with the sunrise. But it was overcast and so dark when I came to the Kingfisher pond that I turned around to walk  over to the new green path along the canal.
There were of course Cattle Egrets on the field around the Kingfisher pond. But no egrets or storks in the trees in the middle of the pond. Well, I decided to walk along the green painted new bicycle path along the canal to see if there was any birds. I read the excellent Bangkok city birding.blogspot a few weeks ago and he had seen a Ruddy Kingfisher(!) in Suan Rot Fai. Of course, I had no hope to see any Ruddy Kingfisher, but you never know. But a Ruddy Kingfisher would have make it worth getting here, and I would not be surprised to spot one when here is no light. I had to crank up the ISO speed to crazy figures just to get the Cattle Egrets on the open field with the best light.  Cattle Egrets

    A new hide where you can sit and look for birds I walked along the green path and I saw many Mynas and I also saw some White-breasted Waterhen on the other side of the canal. I have never seen any White-breasted Waterhens here  before, only in India. But it was a little too dark to take any pictures. There were plenty Asian Koels, I could both hear and see them. They were chasing each other’s so maybe time for them to make babies.
And they were also fighting with the crows up in the trees. So there was a lot of birds in the park today. I was sitting in a hide, new built and as there was nothing to see I spoke with my friend in UK via Line. What the hell is he doing up at this time of the day? But he was in the progress to go to bed. Anyway, he told me he could hear all the birds on my Line messages. And Line messages seems to be the thing that kept me most busy this morning. I had to sit down in the cover because it was raining, again, in January! The park is beautiful and the new bridge across the big pond where I had seen the Stork-billed Kingfisher was not so bad even if I will never see any Kingfisher there again. But now I have easy access to the canal area. Now I only wish for them to start removing all the garbage. New paths are OK, but it is more important to remove the garbage from this otherwise beautiful park. Walking back towards the exit and a taxi and I spotted a Common Kingfisher. There were already two guys hiding taking pictures so I sneaked up behind them.   In the evening I ordered a few new shirts, less bright and colourful at my tailor. My shirts might be a wee bit too loud for the bird watching so I will try with some dull coloured shirts when I'm back from Bali. Tomorrow’s trip to Ban Moo Pramong is cancelled due to the weather. I hope we will have brighter days when I'm back from Bali. Well, Bali next, training and preparing for the big humpback whale adventure on Tonga.
