Friday 18th of December 2015 and I will start the day by making meatballs for the potluck dinner tonight. It is a lot of meatballs that have to be done before I'm leaving in the afternoon. So I went to Tops Market after school yesterday.
When I came to school they were playing with balloons and taking pictures. Christmas decorations and people seemed to be in a good mood.
I might be mistaken, but it was like everyone was more happy today and they were smiling at me when passing outside the class room.
I bought all the ingredients on my way back home from school and now it is time to mix the stuff with my Kitchen Aid equipment. Well, it didn't take long for me to discover that I had bought too much ingredients. Or, hmm, maybe it is the bowl that are too small.
I mixed everything and then I put the bowl in the fridge while we did our almost daily boxing exercise in my squash room. Bangkok Fight Club, must be 2 years since I was there.
2 years of pain in my shoulder and then inflammation in my right thigh, I'm getting too old for this. Well, I have actually planned to go to Bangkok Fight Club one of these evenings, but right now I'm too busy.
Well, I can't say that I'm looking forward to rolling the meat balls so I might make a Skåne/ Thai fusion and make “flat” meat balls.
It will for sure save me a lot of time, and the taste, well, the same. Making the meat balls went way quicker than expected, mostly because I just made flat meat balls.
So I had actually plenty time over for enjoying my afternoon tea before leaving for my friend's house. With freshly made meat balls
I was ready for bed when I finished my afternoon tea. I was full, way too many meat balls.
The meat balls was OK, fresh from the pan, I doubt that they will be so good after a few hours. I bought sweet chilli sauce yesterday as well, and it is kind of yummy to “dunk” the meatballs in the sweet chilli sauce. Thai/ Skåne fusion. Skånsk sausage with Thai sweet chilli sauce, yummy!!
Ratchadapisek - Rama IV to Wat Hua Lamphong on a Friday afternoon. I expected to have to spend quite some time in the taxi, but again, I was pleasantly surprised. We reached Wat Hua Lamphong in a jiff, well, it was a wee bit longer than a jiff. But way quicker than I had expected.
Potluck, what a stupid idea. I mean, I'm home making meat balls and I have 2 choices:
1) I take a meat ball now
2) I wait a few hours until the meat balls are cold and old
Not a hard choice and I was full when I arrived to my friend. Our Japanese friend was making Japanese pizza.
Japanese pizza, well, I had expected something else. But she told me that it wasn't pizza but her foreign friends called it Japanese pizza so pizza it was.
I was delirious by anticipation when she made the “pizza”. It was like a Skånsk fläskpannkaka. But instead of the pancake batter she used some kind of batter made out of cabbage. I LOVE CABBAGE and I was first at the table when the Japanese pizza came on to table.
Suddenly, there was a terrible stink at the table. What is that? I sniffed around, it seems like it is coming form the “pizza”
I launched a secret investigation and believe it if you want. The gastronomical wonder was destroyed by fish powder and it smelled like “PLEASE! THROW ME IN FRONT OF THE BUS! QUICKLY!”
I was so happy when the Japanese pizza came on the table and I just turn around and they shower the pizza in fish powder. Unnecessary to say, I never tried the pizza, Skånska meat balls it was.
I asked my friend for sweet chilli sauce but she didn't had any so she went to get a bowl at the restaurant next door. She came back with the sweet chilli sauce and, OK, there wasn't much of the sauce. I took half of it and I gave the other half to our Japanese friend.
I asked what kind of chilli sauce it was and I was told it was home made. Well, sniffing the sweet chilli sauce, I can try. It was the best sweet chilli sauce I have ever had and we were soon having a new bowl on the table.
This is something I would like to learn how to do. I made a mental not and next time I'm at cooking school I will see if I can learn how to make the sweet chilli sauce. I also asked my friend to “sneak” around in the area next time she is making a new batch of sweet chilli sauce to try to pick up some pointers.
Can for sure come in handy, I bought 2 bottles at Tops the other day, they are kind of OK. But today was the best sweet chilli sauce ever.
I was full and I gave up after 1 bottle of diet drink. I asked her sister to buy 3 bottles when she went to the convenient store. And this was obviously a strange request. Who the he** can drink 3 bottles of diet drinks? She turned pale and she looked shocked when she confirmed.
- 3 bottles!
- Yes, what’s the big deal?
She came back with 3 BIG bottles, and of course, I would not be able to finish these bottles. Not even with the best will in the world.
I was, well, thinking about drinking a few beers, but me and my friend have an early flight to Udon Thani Sunday morning so I want to be in the best of shapes. And as we will have a Skånsk/ Thai fusion Christmas dinner on the 25th of December I need to refresh my knowledge in Thai cooking. 3 Cooking courses in the back, 1 in Laos and 2 in Thailand and I'm not scared to get going with the fusion. But I found an excellent page: www.thaifoodmaster.com and I will spend some time on this site to study my Christmas menu:
• Thai Green Chicken Curry (แกงเขียวหวานไก่ ; gaeng khiao waan gai) Skåne styled
• Fried Chicken with Cashew Nuts (ไก่ผัดเม็ดมะม่วง; gai phat met mamuang) Skåne styled
And I can recommend the Thai Food Master web page if you ever get any plans to cook Thai food. Of course, the fusion with the Skåne kitchen is a totally different tune.
I don't want to miss the plane and the Red Lotus Sea in Udon Thani. I will cross that one from my list and then I can forget about Udon Thani and the Red Lotus Sea. I will be able to go “all in” and concentrate on either Donsol or Australia when I'm back home from my tiger safari.
I have sent several enquiries to different tour operators in Australia, but so far nothing. Well, I can spend my money elsewhere and I really want to see the whale sharks. Some foocking Legoland safari is not the first thing that springs to mind thinking of adventure. And if I'm going to Australia it will for sure not be with any of the companies I have sent e-mails to.
What a fiasco the game drive at Aquila Game Reserve in Cape Town turned out to be. I booked 3 days but Made in Africa recommended me to do ONE day only. I booked Botswana with them so they knew that I had experienced the real thing. And the 2 hours or so we spent at Aquila Game Reserve was a waste of time.
The drive going there and back was worth the trip. But as a game drive, it was like a zoo and I could as well have done the Legoland Safari. Well, who knows, maybe the Legoland Safari would have been more entertaining. Well, depending who is in the car in front of you, or behind you.
It is getting exciting at the Legoland safari
So next time your friends is coming back home from South Africa and they tell you that they have been to a game drive in Cape Town. Well, no need to say anything, but you know exactly what it is they have experienced.
I will keep my-self updated about the whale shark situation in Donsol while in India via Donsol ECO Tours. Latest news is that the whale shark have arrived, but there is only 1 to 3 whale sharks arrived a few days ago. So in February, yeah, I hope I can get a swim with them by then.
So Saturday tomorrow with a boxing session and an early night. My friend will come here 8 o'clock Sunday morning and we will take off to Suvarnabhumi Domestic to catch Thai Airways flight TG 2004 to Udon Thani. Operated by Thai Smile Airways. First time for me on Thai Smile so this is adding a wee bit of excitements to the Red Lotus Sea.
And if you have any interest in the Red Lotus Sea in Udon Thani, should be amazing and one of the most famous things to see here in Thailand. So it is about time for me to go to check it out. So we're off and you just need to click HERE to find yourself in the middle of the Udon Thani adventure.
OK, it has come to my knowledge that we have senior citizens visiting my web page. How hard can it be? So it's not very easy for them to see the blue coloured links to the next page.
