  Sunday 21st of March and my Guide dropped me at the airport around 1 o'clock and I sat down to wait for the check-in to Lufthansa flight LH 1276 to open. Time passed quickly and I had soon checked in and priority line through immigration and security was a quick affair. I found my way to the lounge where I had some juice and water. Restless and I was soon leaving the lounge to go have a look around. I walked through the tax free shop to have a look for a souvenir doll for our Agent's Representative but they had no Cypriote doll, but plenty Mickey Mouse and other shit.  Check-in counters

I walked to the gate and I sat down to wait for the boarding to begin. There was a lot of people waiting so the flight will be quite full. Biz was almost full, but I had managed to get a full row of seats for myself. I was the third or fourth passenger to board flight LH 1293 to Frankfurt. I got my seat and I installed myself while waiting for departure and food. I was getting hungry and I was looking forward to the food. They served very good food on the flight coming to Cyprus. Departure 16:05 but we are delayed. I had got an e-mail when I was in the lounge saying that the flight would be 30 minutes late. I am in no hurry as I will stay at the airport hotel in Frankfurt. Suddenly there was a PA message, we will be even more delays. They cannot find two families and we have to take their luggage off the plane before departure. How is it possible? It was almost 1 hour after departure when some Chinese passengers came on board. And it was screaming and a hard time to sit down. And I was not happy that they had front row in monkey class, the rows behind me. They could not find space for their carry-ons. We pulled back from the terminal and there was still commotion going on behind me.  Pulling out from the terminal

We TAXI to the runway and there are still some commotion in the back. We are on the runway waiting to take off when one of the Stewardesses came running to the cockpit. I was in my seat swearing. We had have enough delays and I really don't want to go back to the terminal to off load some trouble makes and their luggage. Luckily enough, no need to return to the terminal and we could take off. Almost 4 hours to Frankfurt and I expect to be at the hotel at 8 o'clock. I have booked my room from 21:00 just in case we are delayed. But I will add an hour to check in earlier.  Good food again

Dinner was good and I got tea, they brought two cups at the time. They brought chocolate and he gave me 2 packs. He brought more chocolate, but I was full and I said “no thanks” Almost no “restless leg” syndrome and I kind of enjoyed the flight. Never mind how much you enjoy the flight, the time is never passing quick enough and it is always to get off the plane. Flying over Italy and we started to see lights from the big cities under us and we were soon flying over the Alps and then I knew we approached Frankfurt. They told me that we would park at Gate 16A, sh#t! We had left from Gate Z24 and that is just next to the hotel. So I was very pleased when I came out at a “Z” gate so it was just a few gates from the hotel. The hotel did not look like much and the room was very small. But it was actually a very nice room and I was really happy that I had booked the room. There was everything I needed and a big shower. Even a small desk so I could use my computer. My original booking was from 21:00 - 06:00 but I added one hour at each end of the original booking. I also asked for a 4 o'clock wake up call.  My room

Monday 22nd of March 2021 and I was out of bed at 4 o'clock, well, I snoozed for a few minutes. Check out at 7 and I went to look for breakfast. No food at the hotel. I found a coffee shop a few gates from the hotel. The kind of place I usually refuse to visit.
Drinking tea from a paper cup but here I had no choice so paper cup it was. Well, it was not so bad and I was not hungry when I left the table. I went to look for a souvenir doll for our Agent's representative but again, plenty Mickey Mouse  and no dolls.

We were pulled out from the terminal and we were soon airborne flying south. Flying over the beautiful Alps again while I was enjoying my tea and snacks. Always impressed when I fly over the Alps, mountains for long as I could see and the landscape is really beautiful. And as we reach the southern part of the Alps we are at the Italian coast and we can see Genoa on the coast at the foot of the Alps. Flying south along the Italian coast and then the Mediterranean is under clouds and I cannot see anything until we approach Malta.  Flying over the alps

Bouncing down the runway and when we stop I can see that we will go by bus to the terminal. One of the staff member was on the tarmac waving with orange paddles so it will be bus. When we stopped they brought a lorry with the stair on top. We were bussed to the terminal where they checked our Covid documents. The documents required was a Covid test less than 72 hours old + arrival report + passenger tracking form. They checked so we had all documents and then we went inside and we handed our documents to some other people. Then we went to pick up our luggage and I went to the taxi kiosk. 12 € for the taxi to the hotel, or apartment. The girl in the taxi kiosk just looked at the name and the taxi brought me to the hotel. But they told me to go to the apartment, another address so we had to go to the apartment 5 minutes away. I will rent a car to go birding, but as they drive on the wrong side of the roads here on Malta I was not happy about it. So I asked the driver how much he charged per day and he will be here to pick me up tomorrow morning at 7 o'clock for a day of birding on Malta. I settled in to the apartment and it was a nice room. Crossing the street to the convenient store to buy groceries and 6 big bottles of water. The owner carried the water to my door, very good service. I had some orange juice and mozzarella cheese before I left to look for birds in the area. Click HERE to find out if I see any birds.   Bird watching

Well, I spotted a lot of Spanish Sparrows in the area, and a few Barn Swallows. Otherwise there was not many birds at all. So I really hope  that tomorrow have more to offer regarding birds.
